who's doing the music?
hopefully it's the same person as nier's

yea, he is.

No, maybe they change your perspective on things, but they didn't for me. It's just the same thing but with subtlety removed.

I dont know,
you can grasp whats going on at the end of the first run for sure, but actually seeing it, and seeing the consequences of what happens in your first run is worth it IMO.
Although Im sure not everyone would feel the same.

It's not the ending, it's the events leading to it that totally change your perspective on things.

Exactly, you are shown and told more. A lot of scenes and moments receive a whole new meaning to them.

The 2nd play through is a must and was an excellent idea on the dev's part.

There's not a chance in the world you were able to empathize
with the wolf tribe
on your first playthrough.
It's not that it was subtle, it was plain and simple hidden.

What the fuck?! How can good things still happen at this point of this console cycle?! Miracles do come true :D!!

Loved both Drakengard games and loved, loved Nier. I am honestly physched that they have brought all the core team back under one roof and get to continue again. I hope after this they can finish off Niers story
I don't like the idea of everyone becoming extinct now the gesalts are gone :(
and have a happy ending!

Well I'm sorry but I don't think Yoko knows how to create a happy ending. He said in multiple interviews that Nier's ending was the happiest one he has ever done. Which is hilariously since it is only superficially happy
Nier reuniting with Yonah
but then you replay the game and find out more and more about the shades and you realize every single ending of the game is a depression gold mine.

I promise you Drakengard 3 will be just as depressing.

Okabe, i-is that you?

Massive hype for the team lineup. Getting my tissue boxes ready for Day 1; bring it on Yoko.

Did you skip the cutscenes? I found the second play through to be very moving, and I'm not one to get terribly emotional over video games. RIP

Well, could be whatever year it comes out's GOTY or a complete disaster. Having both Yoko Taro and Keiichi Okabe in the team is a very good thing though, glad they have the opportunity to work on a project like this again.

Can't wait to hear what new twisted things are gonna come out of the characters mouths this time around.

Biggest shocker is that development is being handled by Access Games... makers of...
Deadly Premonition!!

Bizarre as hell, but I'm so damn happy about this :D

“It's not Drakenguard or Nier,” said creative director Yoko Taro. “If you're expecting that, you'll be disappointed."

Then what did he say?

He said that Drakengard 3 is not Drakengard or Nier, and that it will probably betray your expectations, but he wants fans to look forward to how their expectations can be betrayed in a good way.

The producer follows up the comment with saying that finally they can announce a new Yoko Taro game world to fans.

For those who are familiar with how Yoko Taro games are, those statements basically mean "this game will not be what you expect, but it will be exactly what you expect from me", since the direction in the stories have always been doing what the player does not expect, and subverting expectations in a way which enhances the experience.

Great news! Expect the unexpected!

That sounds a lot better! Thanks for putting me at ease. I shall be happy again!

Drakengard was so... terribly... bad. I'm definitely not biting this one easily.

And when I mean bad, it's was all due to gamedesign. Story and presentation wise, it was rad.

TOOK me a while to figure out what this meant, but the fact that it's pretty much the dream team from Nier makes me super happy.

I can't wait. Maybe I should try to play Drakengard again.

No, that's true, but I didn't the second time either. I thought the game was stunning first time through, and the second time I thought it was considerably worse. I only did it one more time, so I never did the delete thing, maybe that sells the whole replaying concept, but I didn't feel the need.

Oh it's just that you have no heart, then! :)

Third and fourth playthroughs are really only for completionists / people who really loved the game, as they don't add much. The meat of the game is in the first two runs.
It's sad you didn't like the NG+, though; for me it's easily one of the most ingenious ideas I've seen in games storytelling.

I just felt like everything in it was just an in your face version of the last play through, it's Contact to the first playthru's 2001.

Such unexpected potentially awesome news. I played Nier and have recently picked up Drakengard 2 (still looking to get one, then will play through) Having learned about Cavia only after playing Nier, their design, story and aesthetic choices fascinate me.

I wonder if Emi Evans will be back to contribute vocal work to the soundtrack? Based on the little we know about the fiction it seems that singing plays a role, and everyone concerned seemed to feel like the collaboration on Nier was a great success.

I really wonder how profitable all the audio spin-offs for Nier ended up being for SE? I can imagine that sustained success really helping to get this off the ground.

I feel i'm living in an alternate reality, this is unbelievable. Maybe i should stop being so pessimistic about the future of JRPGs.

The connection between the stories of Nier and Drakengard wasn't made apparent until the very end. Maybe this is a reference to that?

The only game related to Drakengard that I've played is Nier which I loved. I wanted to get Drakengard 1/2 but I don't own a PS2. Any chance this will make any sense to me (similar to how different FF games are different stories) or are all the stories connected? Also does this mean Cavia is alive in some form or another? I'd kill for Nier 2.

Drakengard was one of my favorite games on the ps2, but I am terrified of anything with the Square Enix name attached to it these days. Don't know whether to be elated or horrified! Considering the emotions Drakengard elicited, though, maybe that is appropriate.

Also, I can't believe this thread is 15 pages already. I know Nier was really popular on gaf, but I've encountered maybe 6 people over the years who had heard of drakengard and didn't detest it. Awesome to see so much excitement for it.

Awesome that it's getting a sequel, I've wanted one for ages and I will be watching otu for this, but I cant get hyped just yet, fingers crossed it doesnt end up sucking

I wonder if they'll just work off Ending D this time, heh. I don't really need a direct sequel to NieR and I'd prefer not to have anything to do with the main characters through Drakengard's first ending.

Glad they're using two new leads though.
