If they use a random guy claiming to be Joakim Mogren during that interview then I have a reason to believe that The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are 2 different games because I see no reason for Kojima to keep it a secret if it was the same game. Kojima may not be ready to fully reveal the identity of The Phantom Pain because if it really turned out to be MGS5 then this will overshadow Ground Zeroes big time and you will end up with 1 game going head to head with the other specially if 1 is on PS3 and the other on PS4. Just my 2 cents.

Then why the fuck would he announce The Phantom Pain if it was going to overshadow MGS:GZ?

I could see Mogren being a Swedish actor hired by Kojima just to fuck with us even more.

Yeah, I really could see him keeping up the act. He enjoys messing with us (the fans) in a good way.

If they're two games, they could easily come out at different times.. far enough apart that they wouldn't compete with each other.

I still think they'll be chapters in the same game. Kojima has gone to chapter storytelling.

wait, I think I get it, Phantom Pain is an experimental "pilot" game for next gen consoles, the pilot will be for ps360, but if it succeed than the final game will be on ps4/720

it's not metal gear solid v, but they're using some asset from ground zeroes to minimize cost

I would love if this dude is just a front man cover up for Kojima and there will be a big troll face reveal at some later date.
Either way I'm still 100% positive what I saw was a metal gear game. if not it looks far too much like it to not be considered a rip off

Here's a thought that may have been discussed already, I don't know. Anyways, what are the chances Moby Dick could eventually become the name for Kojima Productions LA?

I guess i'll make my prediction. Kojima is overseeing this new game at the western studio branch of Koji Pro and in typical Kojima fashion he is hyping it in a crazy way. Phantom Pain is Metal Gear in name and characters only with fairly different gameplay, and a story that ultimately has little bearing on the fiction as a whole. They hire an actor to do this interview thing to keep the ruse up until the next gen consoles are more in sight.

Was gonna say that.

While we're waiting on the news tomorrow night... What would you guys say your favourite character/musical piece from the franchise is?

I'd have to say Solidus & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-vIhZCZCaw

Maybe it's a western dev making a prequel to MGS V? Like Kojima is overseeing it but letting them have full control, and they're calling it the Phantom Pain because calling it Metal Gear without Kojima would make fans get really annoyed or if it turned out bad "you ruined metal gear" bla bla bla.
Who knows, I'm just spit ballin

Did you read what I wrote? The Phantom Pain technically is NOT Metal Gear as far as we know it. We are assuming it is based on the analyses and speculations and the obvious clues that Kojima left in that trailer. The reason he is keeping it a secret is because he doesn't want the game(TPP/MGS5) to overshadow GZ and he didn't expect the fans to actually notice it and decipher every single frame from that trailer.

don't judge a book by it's cover. :)

Agreed. BUT why is everyone all of a sudden interested in a new developer and new development studio that came out of no where and they are promoting his game and his name on TV next to legendary Miyamoto? Really? You really think an unknown person would get that kind of attention all of a sudden? I don't think so. There is gotta be a logical explanation behind this and it is obvious, we figured it out moments after the trailer was premiered at the VGAs. Plain and simple, Kojima and Geoff and everybody at Kojima Productions and Konami planned this for months and they know what they are doing although people are getting more confused but this is the kinda of shit that I appreciate, a good weird sense of humor and Kojima took it to the next level. Genius man indeed.

I don't think Kojima was underestimating the fanbase in figuring those things out. Snake Crawl, Psycho Mantis look-alike, etc.. are pretty easy to notice things. He probably figured the title would stay hidden for longer than 24 hours but that's about it.

I really don't think he's worried about overshadowing at all. It doesn't make sense that he would be. I haven't seen anything to suggest that MGS fans would pick up one game over the other with exception to Rising but that's not MGS gameplay.

Looking at the Ground Zeroes trailer again and it all seem like in-engine stuff, but likely not for this generation consoles. It looks more like it was done on early next-gen dev kits.

This seems likely, and totally awesome. Though I'm not sure if they will retain the same gameplay through out the chapters. Ground Zeroes is open world. Phantom Pain does not seem at all like that. But that could be interesting to have such different experiences with each chapter.

Ground Zeroes was confirmed on day 1 to be running on a PC.

It would be amusing for Kojima to give his Alan Smithee a face.

I'd also laugh if the Phantom Pain really turned out to a separate, non MGS, non Kojima game. I can't really imagine it though. The only thing worse than that would be Ricochet 2 really being Ricochet 2.

Didn't they say comparable specs to PS360? Even with that said, it still looks more advanced than anything current gen can render. I'm guessing this is what next-gen consoles ver. will look like.

I thought for the first few minutes that it was a live action trailer with the camera movement.

Like some of the other titles so far demoed for Playstation 4. And technically the early dev kits were just PC's with similar components targeted final hardware specs. So the answer was not dishonest.

They can't really say it's running on early Playstation 4 hardware 5 months before the Playstation 4 is even announced.

We'll know soon enough anyways. I just kinda hope it's the opposite situation of what happened to the MGS4 stuff they showed on early hardware (final product was visually downgraded).

PC at "PS3" settings. Looking at it up close it definitely seems like what we saw will be similar to the current gen versions, it hid a lot of flaws really intelligently. I'm sure that the current gen versions won't quite as good or run as smooth but it'll be close.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
The longer this all goes on the more in danger it gets of not being funny and just kinda... childish.

Who are they trying to kid with this stuff?

That's how I'm beginning to feel at this point. Was funny at first, but they're getting close to "running gag abuse" territory.

Hopefully the interview is amusing enough to justify keeping this facade going.

Ground Zeroes had a lot of darkness which is easier to render, perhaps the thing thats not possible is the extensive lighting being used. But I think Tomb Raider is not all that far from GZ playable footage.
