I played an unhealthy amount of Halo 2 and 3 online. Halo 4 is not shit, it's just off on a couple of key components like good map design and proper weapons balancing. Reach on the other hand yeah it's shit.
It could also be argued that a PC port now would facilitate an 'HD' version of the Halo trilogy on Durango since it will be x64/x86

Reach is much better than halo 4. At least it feels somewhat like halo.
Halo 4 is considerably less of competitive shooter, but I still had fun with it.

It would be a stupid move by MS bring Halo on PC.The xbox has a few exclusive if you take away even Halo remain only Forza and GOW but I would not be surprised if it were true since 2009 MS does not do one thing right.Bring Halo 3 on PC would make sense for MS only if it is an exclusive for W8 and GFWL

Stupid move? Considering how very few people currently play Halo 3's multiplayer, I'd say it would be a stupid move not to port it. Plus, considering how Age of Empires II HD is on Steam, I think MS has already realised that GFWL will never catch up. Porting Halo 3 isn't the same as porting Halo 4. To play the latest Halo game, you still need an Xbox.

yeah but why buy the next XBOX and gamble on the .000001% chance that a good Halo game will be developed when you can get a port of a good Halo game
I hope you're not serious when you say that people wouldn't buy 720 because they can get H3 on PC if they are a Halo fan?

I have a feeling HaloGAF really dislikes Halo 4.
I get that impressions as well, I haven't played Halo 4 since I don't own a console.
I know how they feel though, I have been very bitter about Skyrim and Bioware's recent outputs.
I still feel it a stupid move,would be a smarter decision a collection HD for the next xbox.

Fans of Halo want this PC version for the multiplayer. I doubt Microsoft/343 would implement 3 simultaneous versions of Halo multiplayer 1,2, and 3 on one product. Besides the net code being really jacked up in 1 and 2 the player base would be so fragmented the product wouldn't have legs.
You forget MS is also in the PC business.. I think they are making some moves to better their image on PC. Windows is losing popularity and things like GFWL have really burned PC gamers.. Releasing some of their big name titles with Steamworks support is a move in a good direction.. they need to restore some faith in them.
This seems very shortsighted.
Considering console sales will be on a downswing between now and next generation.
Release a PC port know so you can have extra profits for this fiscal year. Have a Halo Trilogy launch title for your next generation console since it is x64/x86 based.

Well, there's much more PC players than Xbox ones (at least, from my experience). Most of my friends are PC gamers, but they Halo. If Halo 3 ever came out for the PC, all of them would buy it as soon as it's released. It would make much more money than it takes to port it and add modding tools.
As Gears could go third party, and Halo is already dead. Forza is essentially the only IP Microsoft have, so if anything, they've got nothing to lose in that sense.

Well, if modding is implemented, I'd imagine Reach would be better for modding, while Halo 3 would have better competitive matchmaking.

Remember the rumors that Microsoft is cultivating at least 6 new IPs for next generation.

I will concede that their may be a tiny chance that MS will deign to allow their loyal customers the privileged of playing Halo 3 since it is 4 games back in the series, 6 years old, and nearly an entire generation ago.
Hey maybe Blizzard will return the favor for our console brethren and port World of Warcraft over to the consoles.
It's really just that I don't gamble with money. I don't doubt at all that ClovingWestbrook would pay up.

Ok, so how about something other than money. How about this, since I am not able to do an avatar bet (Blackace owns my ass), I'll do this. If Halo 3 shows up on Steam by the end of 2013 I will pick an avatar for you for 3 months. If it doesn't show up on Steam by the end of 2013 then I will buy you a $10 game on Steam.

It could just be that not all of the rumor is true/false. Maybe it's something where the game is coming to PC but not Steam ("Steam thing is bunk"). Maybe it's not a direct port of Halo 3, something like a smaller, multiplayer only Win 8 app that could run on a bunch of devices (which does seems to be Microsoft's MO right now).
Who knows, maybe you'll see Halo: Mini running on a Surface someday. There was that rumor about Microsoft going with AMD for a new Surface in 2013.
