Well it happened just now and everything looks awful. Be warned Vita bros, OLED apparantly is very prone to burn in. Hope Sony will replace it.

Got it on my Galaxy S2 where the task bar is. Its not gamebreaking but knowing it's there is a bit annoying. Launch vita is holding out though.

Photos? I somehow find it unlikely that we wouldn't have heard of this until now if it was "very prone" to burn-in.

Yea, having a static screen on the vita is not such a great idea.

This was actually a problem that was raised on GAF a while back (some guy was using the browser constantly, and the menu burnt into the screen). The problem is that The lifetime of a subpixel decay at different rates depending on the colour. This problem is apparently inherent to OLEDs.

Well other people who use the browser on vita a lot have already had experiences with burn in so it's not new. And the warning of OLED burn in was already well known.

Man I hate that shit. Happened to my Galaxy S after watching a ton of Youtube. I was hoping the OLED tech had improved, but I guess not. How long was the image on the screen for? A lot of image retention is temporary. Also, I avoid putting the screen on full brightness because of this. That helps right?

If this is true, lol the 3DS screen is better in my eyes. Serious, I hate being paranoid about stuff like this. "How long should I leave the screen on for?" etc. Just let me play my damn games T_T

I've heard a lot of rumbling about the web browsers sidebar causes problem and that running PS One games (not stretched full screen of course) for long periods can cause burn in and yellowing in the black areas but haven't experience this myself, not to say this isn't possible. I would have thought that the task bar at the top would cause the same issues but also haven't seen anything let lone hear anyone talk about it.

Edit: Well damn.

Burn in is not an issue unless there is a static image on your screen. It's the reason why older screens use screensavers, so that there are no static images on the screen for an extended period of time.

Great, I'm getting my Vita this week and now I'll be scared to use it...

There is a lot of static image on the screen while you you play games though (hud, menu, etc.)

Yeash, this is kind of scaring me.

No need to worry. I play mine daily since launch and there is no burn in. Just be careful about your usage patterns. Don't use it as a photo frame or digital clock when it is plugged in, for example, and it'll be fine.

Yeah, but with this what if I decided to set my Vita down and do something else, or it I'm at the PSN store thinking if I should buy a certain game or not? Yeah I guess I could just lock the screen, but I should have the ability to just leave it there and not become paranoid about it. Staying on ANY page for a prolonged period of time could cause this. Plus the top taskbar is always there. It just irks me.

Why would you leave a handheld on standby for long enough to burn-in an image, anyway?

Unless this happens after a really short amount of time, in which case, damn.

I knew about the burn-in problems early-on, kinda hoped I could use my Vita for a couple years and then replace it with a hardware revision, like they did with the PSP... a revision that would potentially address screen issues... but due to the lackluster success of the vita, that may never happen.

Anyway, no burn-in here yet but my Vita useage is about to skyrocket once Soul Sacrifice is out.

I agree with previous posters, I should never have to concern myself about playing a game 'too much' or worrying about leaving certain static elements, like the browser sidebar, on the screen for too long... it's bs that we shouldn't have to deal with in this day and age.

As some people have mentionned it, I figure this is the best place to ask: are a few Mura effect splotches normal on a Vita? I've had them since day 1 and only notice them on black loading screens.

Tsk tsk...
Everyone should expect the same thing no one excluded it's a problem of the technology. Still waiting for a restyle or a new sku with LCD.

it is very common if not universally experienced to varying degrees
