Yeah it's cool as long as they meet their goal on kickstarter so they actually get the money, which they will so many of us could remove our pledges.
I don't know if this affects the higher money goals or if they will included paypal in that at the end.

Kickstarter is more worried about making money than sticking to their code.
That's why they broke their rules for PennyArcade to change their monetization system. Kickstarter doesn't care about their own rules.

Yeah. I don't want to channel Fox News or anything, but the article could have been a bit more balanced. The nice thing about HuffPo's article is that the author isn't really coming out in support of or against Wilson - he or she is trying to "objectively" report the facts.
It is certainly shitty that people are sending in death threats, although honestly I wouldn't have expected any less because, well, the internet. Those people have pretty much brought the whole ordeal a full 360 - first it was a heartwarming story, then it was a potential scam - now it's heartwarming because a 9 year old is getting death threats.
My basic summation of this one is that the Internet fucking lost. It pains me to admit it.

TBF this is really a case of a fool and his money, ultimately she didn't threaten people to donate her, it was some dumb asses who did it out of her own free own free will. Now you could say she's probably violating some rules but this was the inevitable end result of kickstarter, do you think if someone managed to raise large amounts of money from it through this that the creators of kickstarter would be inclined to take it down. As long as it's legal and remains even slightly iffy in regards to someones issues they're going to keep that shit up.
Kickstarter isn't really investing, with investments the investors usually will get something out from the successful product you'll get divends/percentage of the profit or some other ideally equalivalent monitary reward, kickstarters don't get shit from the successful product, it's was alwys extremely close to charity, we're just seeing the inevitable blurring of the lines.

This is really much bigger than this particular scam now. This is a referendum on kickstarter now. This is Kickstarter being outed as a haven for scammers. That their management is incapable or unwilling to enforce their own rules.

Her stance is that it only became a gender thing once she reached the initial goal, because she was approached by people like Brenda Brathwaite Romero who hinted her to make something bigger out of it.
She´s has been trying all kinds of different things to make money in the past, so I find it hard to believe that she didn´t want to get the most out of it from the getgo.

However, in her latest KS update she vehemently denies any wealth, referring to herself as "unemployed at this very moment" and stating that her success doesn't equal wealth.
Is there anything to the contrary of this? I'd have to say that much of my initial distaste towards the project (and a lot of others too, i'm sure) was based around her supposed fortune or successful career.
Edit: Although she admits that she could've paid for the camp herself on the Kotaku article, so the whole thing continues to remain fishy alongside everything else.
