Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

Why are you setting the bar as low as possible?

"There are some real pieces of shit out there. We didn't quite hit them. YAY!"

Not how I want to conduct myself or assess the conduct of others.

How is this "as low as possible"? Pull it together people

They should have paid more women though, this is disturbing.

That is not what I am saying at all. I'm saying that this is common industry practice (not just "some pieces of shit", pretty much every higher-level primarily male industry out there), and that it's of the more harmless kind. I acknowledged that it may not be ideal (though I don't quite buy the argument that these women would all rather be at university studying quantum physics than being paid 300 USD per hour for socializing at a party).

When you try to spin it into the nerds in the gaming industry once more exploiting women it turns into a ridiculous witch hunt. Calling people who refuse to participate in that "not human beings" is all kinds of fucked up, far more so than paying some women to dance and socialize.

Also don't forget that Mojang likely hired an entertainment company to put this party on, if it did happen it is likely they hired the girls.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Things are getting a little too witch hunty over these sorts of issues to actually have a positive impact for change.

Some people like to look at half naked women.some women to get paid to be half naked for people to look at. Not everyone has to live by someone else set standards. And that does not make the bad people or wrong.

This is why we avoid drawing conclusions from a couple of Twitter posts, ladies and gentlemen.
Lol like that's going stop this kinda shit. There's an agenda to be pushed and hits to be paid for, who cares about facts right? I agree with others, this witch hunt isn't progressing the cause at all and is likely to cause apathy over the long term.

Yeah I was hyperbolic. It's not viewed as harmless by all, is the big point.

As a student I might've done jobs I thought creepy for 300 per hour, but it wouldn't make them not creepy.

I don't think calling people names on the internet is particularly fucked up, that or we're all fucked up.

Considering the level of doucher at a Minecraft oriented party, this would be something I'd consider doing too.

Because, you know, ladies like a man who mines for the bald man in the boat.

Is it too early to start drinking?

I've worked in a number of enormous companies in the tech industry (and for that matter I've worked for / as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies in other industries as well). We never hired escorts or models for our corporate parties, as that would likely go against our sexual harassment policies.

Men like women? I don't know.

Really not worried about what people do in their life too much.

I can understand why people get their feathers ruffled up though.

Everyone in the industry is hiring women for their parties, what are the odds of them hiring me for their games?

As a girl, I don't get what's inhuman about all of this, it's not like the girls were forced, they were paid, and not so bad.

How good are you at dancing and socializing? Does your resume include a headshot?

So are we now at the situation where a bunch of completely random women appeared in the VIP area of the Minecraft party, and none of the organizers ever noticed?

No, we are at a point of some people blindly believing what some people that are not in the know are saying on twitter!

No big deal. No one would care if bunch of girls hired some men to do the same thing. It isn't like the girls didn't have a choice.

So.. now any party that will have women dancing at it will be called a huge, sexist event filled with sweaty pigs? I get that there needs to be some semblance of equality but come on let's get the sticks out of our asses. Guess what women dance at parties, sometimes rich guys hire dancers, theses women have a JOB as a dancer, I am still not seeing why this NOW is such a horrible thing. Should all parties turn to snooze fests with people sitting around? Would dancing with a woman be considered "sexist" now? you're objectifying her beauty after all during a dance oh no!! It's getting quite ridiculous.

So how do feminists and feminist sympathizers reconcile a women's right to do what she wants with her body, but imply she isn't allowed to dance with it?

Yeah where are my options to party for $300/h..

They would probably pay me $300 to stop dancing :(

So how do feminist and feminist sympathizers reconcile a women's right to do what she wants with her body, but imply she isn't allowed to dance with it?

That is something i always wondered.
What is the difference between me selling my brain or body to people vs people selling other parts of their body.
If it is their choice so be it.

And you have never hired people to keep the "party" going either I take, people that start up a conversation when people are standing awkwardly quiet saying nothing, people that ask other people to dance and then after 30 seconds pair of the dancers and leave to repeat the process with more people?

This is why we shouldn't have threads made that deal with such sensitive matters without the facts behind them. Two random tweets, turns into 6 pages of heated debate that turn out to be for nothing.

The title of the thread is Notch/Mojan pay women to dance and socialize at party. They in turn denied this ever happened.

I think you guys/girls need to start going to parties that differ from your friends. Go to clubs, go to Halloween/New Years parties, go to events, go to work parties. You'll start to see that almost everyone hires attractive servers, hosts and hostesses, bartenders etc. Some even hire models to socialize and make people feel welcome.

I wish people would pay me to dance and socialize at big parties.
Women are so privileged in this regard :<

They are called atmosphere models. Male and female.

As it turns out for both genders, it's actually considered valuable working experience both for marketing themselves by being seen at parties, but also for working in different environments and any acting that may require.

Just as often it's done to give a specific image. Want an area to seem more high scale and business like? Hire men and women to wear suits and hold conversations (prepared before hand) to at carry or assist a conversation. Such agencies that do atmosphere models must be in demand, because a simple search shows a lot of them.

And here i came expecting another white kinght femminism circlejerk, good job Gaf there is still hope left in mankind.

I defend women being equally right to men in all apsects, but this is starting to get pretty stupid. Misguided's white knight posts are embarrasing to say the least.

BTW Isnt Notch's team all men? would probably be pretty normal there be woman scorts only.
EDIT: And it seem it even not happened the paid thing. Move along.

I think it's less about those women dancing and more about those attending such parties being subjected to it. Eg, if you went to some games convention party and there were male strippers or dancers everywhere. Would you feel comfortable there or not? As a straight gut I can't say it'd exactly be my cup of tea.

Darkness no more
I have a few model friends that sometimes get paid to attend parties/events and socialize. They make good money to go to a party, hang out and have a few drinks. I don't see what the big deal is.

third wave feminism speaks greatly on this
there's no implications that one can't dance with anything, and the "If it is their choice so be it" is indeed pretty apt here.

And here i came expecting another white kinght femminism circlejerk, good job Gaf there is still hope left in mankind.

related: telling women what kinda gigs they can/should have is very much not feminism

Bars/clubs hire beautiful women to promote at college campuses all over the country. It's not that foreign of a concept.

It's sad that a room full of millionaires don't know any actual women though. Not doing the gaming stereotype any favors.

I'm not sure what your question has to do with abiding by the sexual harassment policies of the companies I'm worked for?

I usually get yelled at by anti-feminists and feminists both, but I'll bite: anyone can do whatevs as long as its legal, but if you pay for women dancers for a gaming industry party, I'm going to think you're a bit of a creeper.
