Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

1. Girl chooses profession
2. Guy hires girl to perform chosen profession

Unless they were forced, or 14 I don't see the problem.
Who the fuck are we to tell any female what they should do for a living anyway? If they want to be a stripper or a prostitute or an escort good for them. Anyone who suggests otherwise isn't protecting females, they're holding them back.

Oh WOW! That is absolutely rich... And now all the vigor and aggressive accusations from the first few pages of the thread fade into nothingness.

Seriously, this. Incredible stuff. More than a few people involved in this nonsense, and a few posters in this thread should be embarrassed.

Girls dancing and socialising at a gamer party? Must be paid hookers.

These sinner whores and the Mojang pimps should burn in hell for this.

Instiga8iveJournalism may once have had credibility, but his motives have since far outrun his actual output. Petty vindictive impulses run his mindset now.

That's all I can really say on this.

Thanks to the Evilore who finally changed the thread title and fixed the OP. A continued "fuck you" to the OP who made no effort to correct his/her mistake.

The American gaming industry seems like an awful place to work in. If I was in it, I'd just keep my head down and do my job and avoid any attempt at joining the "community" or schmoozing. It's really doesn't sound like any fun at all.

Is this kind of constant hand-wringing and faux outrage common in the American workplace these days, or is it just in gaming?

I do not even understand why hiring girls to a party is a problem. In fact, if I had a big party, it was 90% dudes and I had the cash, I'd hire girls too. It's not like they were strippers.
Male feminists are hilarious.
I'm guessing you don't know what a feminist is.

One who participates in social media misandry? That's all I see these days.

This smelt suspicious from the beginning.

Too many of the same type of incident and at the same time all these talks and commentators talking about the issues at hand also.

Seems planned and manufactured, some of the uproar and now we find one of the causes of the uproar was a lie.

The lady involved and the OP of this thread should hang there heads in shame.

I don't suppose anyone's learned any lessons from this fiasco about assuming the worst in a quest for social justice when evidence is lacking?

No? I didn't think so. Carry on, internet justice warriors.

It's ok, cry wolf long enough and by the time something actually happens nobody will give a shit. If the people behind this incident realised that they might be a bit more judicious about when they try and stir up outrage on the internet. It's a matter of time before a thread like this pops up and there is nobody taking the side of the OP. I mean nobody is going to listen to a word Holly says ever again. Her hypocrisy was disgusting. I don't see how anyone wins there.

It's starting to seem more and more like tech and gaming industry is a bit of a soft target because of their strong and vibrant online presence. In the real world no one will pay any mind to this nonsense, but online these people have set up their little networks and communities and can cause a big stink.

They're abusing the level of inclusivity the industry provides to climb on their soapbox at every given opportunity.

Shut down!

Typical Arthur, white knighting while totally ignoring the facts. What an asshole. Holly is a troll and he's giving her a platform to troll on. Congrats. It's a disgrace the OP and title of this thread hasn't been changed yet, so quick to pile on indiscretions in the industry but fuck admitting when you're wrong right? Way to breed apathy by crying wolf and never backing down.

She really made a fool of herself.

Makes you wonder why people think it's wise to discuss this kind of stuff on twitter anyway. How about conducting, you know, an actual interview. Hell, even a few e-mails would be better than twitter.

Investigative journalism...such a revolutionary idea, no wait...that's exactly the job the gaming press SHOULD be doing and by and large isn't.

Well, I'm glad Notch got this cleared up before the Swedish feminist twitter elite got a hold of it. They would have had him crucified in every major Swedish newspaper before the day was over.

Really a shame. This is Bennett Foddy's last tweet on the matter, and I don't really understand what he's talking about, or why he decided to start all of this in the first place:

@HaroldC91 I never said notch hired them, I said the situation there was not OK (and it really wasn’t OK)

Too many attractive girls in the VIP if I'm reading this clusterfuck properly. It's the only conclusion I can come to that could have possibly resulted in this hot mess of a non story.

Glad the title was changed, I can't believe how people made something out of nothing and I can't believe how many white knights don't realize they are the sexist and bigoted ones.

This is some of the stupidest shit I've seen in a while. How can people be angry at the guy for hiring dancers if he didn't hire dancers

Yeaaahhhhh. There needs to be a very serious discussion in the games community about how gender problems are brought up. False accusations should be a prt of that discussion along with the usual discussion concerning gender roles and expectations.

I don't understand it either but this happened and in a way I'm glad because it's shown there is an agenda being pushed and it's not all about protecting women in the games industry. The sooner mountains stop being made out of molehills the sooner real progress can be made regarding sexism in gaming.

I'd have to wonder what funchameleon and...Platy, I think her name is, think about this. Because the rather subdued Arden Kehoe is as incensed as Green, and she's not often wrong.

Maybe they should elaborate on why they're so furious because being angry at Notch and co for something he didn't do is completely fucking moronic. At this stage it seems like they're pissed there were attractive girls in the VIP which is messed up beyond belief.

This a case of 'good looking girls at party', "oh they must've been paid to be there"? Jesus.

I love how dumb it all is. It's sexist and offensive in more ways than one. Firstly, why can't pretty women be at party with nerds? Are pretty women only allowed with attractive men? Are gamer dudes not allowed to have pretty women near them?

It's sexist both towards women and towards men. Incredible.

So the people who said they had been told by girls at the party they were being paid to be there - completely made up? That just seems weird.

I stand impartial to the whole "is it right to hire people for company" question, but I'm not against questioning someone's behavior if it went against my moral fiber. However, the way this was handled is nothing short of embarrassing.

Insulting the accused, basing accusations off of very questionable evidence ("based on eye witness accounts" lol), using massive leaps of logic, and then shifting the burden of proof on to the accused, and refusing to accept rebuttals (at least initially) as evidence against the accusations is simply not feasible. It seems to me that the accuser should have done some investigative legwork before accusing people of a pseudo-moral crime.
