Few more here with brief explanation about the world of Thief: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/03/25/the-world-of-thief.aspx

"The first goal was to avoid feeling [like you're] in a village, a small town," Cantin says. "My goal was to do a metropolis. Something really modern even though it fits in an old time." He explains that the City will not be as sprawling as something seen in Grand Theft Auto, but players will feel like there is a large world around them.

The art team wants every room that Garrett explores to feel lived in. Check out the high level of detail in the shop above.

Stonemarket and its clock tower return from the third game in the series, Thief: Deadly Shadows. Here it's a central hub for Garrett and a meeting of the rich and poor classes in the City. This blend is shown in a mix of medieval and Victorian architecture styles.

Above is a look at Garrett's hideout in the top of a clock tower, which is a great example of the team's take on steampunk. "The art style of steampunk is golden and wood -- see Wild Wild West with Will Smith," Cantin explains. "It's something we really want to get rid of. We're really more about rusty stuff where you see the welding."

While complete darkness was a big factor in the earlier Thief games, it made it difficult for players to see what was going on. Eidos-Montreal found a key ingredient to help maintain the feel of darkness while adding visibility. "Fog helps us to light the whole game," Cantin says. "If you have a dark scene in a back alley, you just put fog in it and then you see the silhouette. You're never in the pitch dark. The fog is there for the mood but also for helping the player to see."

I love me some good concept art.

Liking it so far but for some reason it gave me a Dishonored feel.

You mean Dishonored gave you a Thief feel.

#hype

PSA: Thief, the franchise existed before Dishonored.

This dishonored shit isn't going to stop until a while after this comes out isn't it? Drives me nuts.

Agreed. I can't tell if people are joking about Dishonored/Thief 4 comparisons anymore.

Also anyone saying it "looks like Dishonored" needs to realize that Dishonored was inspired by Thief, not the other way around...

Looks gray but I dig it because it reminds me of Dishonored. I think I'll replay that after I finish off Infinite.

How is the Clocktower going to work, anyway? It's a Hammerite-owned structure that collapsed (gj Garrett) in Deadly Shadows. I know this is some kind of reboot/sidequel thing, so I guess they're ditching the Hammerite component of it? Or keeping that part and reworking it somehow?

I'm still trepidatious about this game and if they will be able to keep what makes Thief "Thief".

However, these pseudo-screens (some seem to contain in game assets) look pretty fabulous. Also anyone saying it "looks like Dishonored" needs to realize that Dishonored was inspired by Thief, not the other way around...

I found Dishonored to be more like a water-colored City 17 and more old-timey, Thief on the other hand looks a lot more gothic and darker in comparison in terms of art direction.

This looks absolutely wonderful, that April 2nd reveal can't come soon enough.

I wish the Thief series was more well-known. It seemed to get over shadowed by Metal Gear and Splinter Cell despite being better in terms of stealth gameplay.

Art looks great. Here's hoping they can get pretty close to that since they've dropped the current gen versions.

Stop? It's going to get much, much worse as we see more of the game and learn more about the various features, etc.

Dishonoured will also be relatively fresh in people's mind thanks to the upcoming DLC episodes.

So yeah, it's going to get much worse.

Would you say you're displeased with the disservice the anachronistic Dishonored comparisons are creating? :p

Dishonored is a game I will never understand the praise for, an awful story coupled with "my first stealth game" gameplay. Terrible characters, terrible story and ugly environments. I say this as someone who completed it twice just to make sure I was right in hating the first run so much.

Way too many scaffoldings. They make me feel like I'm looking at AssCreed concept arts.

In before grey.
Fake edit: ah damn, i will never be faster than people whose understanding of artdirection is limited to either "grey" or "kiddy"

Gorgeous artwork.

So if this is going to purely first person, then I hope the fov is properly calibrated (like Riddick games). That said, wide fov on tv makes me nauseous.

Okay, yeah, wait. I've played 1 and 2 and what the hell do they mean those games were too dark for players to tell what was going on?

Maybe the devs didn't know what the brightness slider did, or maybe, they never even played the original Thief and are just making another dumbed down linear thing to cash in on a new generation.

I'm excited for this game and will no doubt buy it off my love for the originals alone, but I'm going in expecting something much different.

Nice concept art though.

Honestly some of those doesnt look like typical concept art. Looks like they may have pre-rendered some 3d stuff and painted over it. Which im fine with, and makes for great looking concepts.

seriously, man. what the hell? especially the "my first stealth game" gameplay comment. you said it your good: "you will never understand". Let's leave it at that. Many people enjoyed it. It won critical and commercial success and I for one am happy for it. It deserved it.
