Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) coming to NA retail/eShop Summer 2013 (July 16)

Importing from VGP should be okay (I used Amazon, but they don't sell the 3DS anymore). If you set your 3DS region to Canada you can use your credit card on the eShop.

Yes. Just make sure you set your region to USA and you're good to go. Just remember to set a zip code that doesn't have sales tax - otherwise you would need a bit more than $50.

Thanks!

The Vision Quests are part of the main storyline. They help flesh out the world and are some of the coolest parts of the game, one character's VQ in particular.

The term isn't using RPG definition of "quest"; rather, it's referencing Native American culture.

Soul Hackers actually bases lots of its lore in Native American culture, which is a pretty cool break from the Judeo-Christian norm.

OK, cool. I thought since
you play as different characters
they were (story-related) sidequests but guess not.

Wellllll I wasn't posting cuz boobs, I was posting because how stupid the poses in those renders are, but ill stop, this ain't the place for it anyways.

so GAF, stop with the boobs, question from a PAL gamer.

Can I buy a USA 3DS here, a prepaid 3DS eshop card here and play SMTIV the release day?
I'd seriously advise against the latter.

If I were to import a 3DS to play US games, I'd make sure to buy retail games. If your import console has any issue, there's a 99% chance you'll be fucked out of your digital games.

Why is that? Yes, an account system would be far better but there's not much writing down your serial number wouldn't solve.

The account system doesn't matter at this point if he imports it from another region. I'm pretty sure they would only support it in the NA region.

You're right, I don't own a 3DS and was thinking of WiiU. That will teach me to spread FUD without checking first.

That said, having contemplated the notion of importing the console and game, I'd rather avoid buying stuff on a fake account.

After watching a few Soul Hackers videos, I'm beginning to think it might have to be *the* dungeon crawler in my life right now. I'm not sure that I have the time/patience for EO4.

And wow, I'm really fucking excited for SMT4.

Given the Persona platform history, I think we are all expecting P5 to be on a Sony platform. It's FAR more likely there will be meltdowns if P5 is announced and is not exclusive to a Sony platform. (even more so in meltdowns if exclusive to Nintendo)

You would think so, but apparently not!

History is irrelevant! Atlus is in bed with Nintendo! /sarcasm

SMT4 and Fire Emblem x SMT is definitely making a statement, though P5 has probably been in development for so long that it would not strongly reflect any relationship going on between Nintendo and Atlus.

Not to derail this thread (there was enough stupidity and missing perspective in the last one), but we've been through this before. A lot.

Those games make a statement for SMT. Hell, it's not even a statement so much as a reiteration of one. Soul Hackers, Strange Journey, etc; the games have been on Nintendo hardware this whole generation. Persona is not SMT.

Soul Hackers or Devil Survivor aren't either

From the boxart it appears Walter will be aligned with Chaos while Jonathan will be aligned with Law? Wonder who will be the Neutral ally (Isabeau? Navare? Your leader like in SJ?). It's so weird to see all those redesigned demons on the boxart. The did not even put the new Omoikane on it :(

I'm still trying to understand how a thread about SMT IV turned into posting awful artworks from Devil Survivor 1-2 and some Nintendo vs Sony war.

This I did not know.

It is Devil Summoner. Only SMT's are Shin Megami Tensei, Shin Megami Tensei 2, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, Shin Megami Tensei 4, and the direct side story games, Shin Megami Tensei If... and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. SMT mainline except for Nocturne has always been Nintendo, so that brand being on Nintendo is nothing new.

How likely is it that a game like Soul Hackers will 1) fall in price after a few months and 2) quickly become impossible to find?

I was going to buy it, but I'd rather finish the games I have now and buy SMTIV when that comes around.

The game is going to available as a digital download, so it's not like once it's gone from stores, it's gone forever.

Really? Hahahaha, oh wow. That just makes the argument even sillier.

Atlus is pretty good with keeping prices down thanks to reprints. They just reprinted Raidou 1 and 2 which were the most expensive ones recently.

Devil Survivor Overclocked was also expensive at one point but it's down now.

Really don't want to stir the pot for this OT stuff but they are also on PS...

Atlus's face is sure gonna be red when they see how they goofed on the title screen.

SMT Mainline is like DQ, it just goes to the winner console. Framing things in terms of SMT is a Nintendo series and Persona is a Sony series is not the right way to look at it. Persona was ported to PC, Arena appeared on 360, it's not outlandish to think that Index will release Persona 5 on other systems in addition to the PS3, and in fact, most signs point to a PS360 release. Fire Emblem X SMT is not a sign that all Megaten games will appear on Wii U, any more than NINE and Imagine were signs that future games would appear on Xbox or PC.

There, that should take care of all the tedious port talk right?

(port talk is still more preferable than lonely people discussing cartoon character boobs)

I think it's kind of like Persona where it started as a side-story series, then became popular enough to stand on its own.

Still, this is one case where the SMT moniker isn't at all out of place. I may even put it on the OT if I have room!

So why are they charging $50? I'm guessing Atlus is using 4GB cards?

That's a good guess. The voice acting is probably going to expensive too since it's fully voice and they might be afraid it will bomb.

Poor Devil Summoner.

We also tend to forget about Shin Megami Tensei NINE on Xbox too. Always wanted to try that game but don't want to get a JPN Xbox. I found a way to play it on 360 but it requires hacking your console so :S

With the $10 increase they might also stick with the Japanese voices. At least, I think might be part of the reason if true.

There may not be the space for it, which of course loops back to how it's almost certainly on one of the larger carts.

Exactly. It's a premium price because of the larger sized cart and also perhaps voice acting licensing fees. They can make many reasons for it though.

I find it hard to believe, though. RE Revelations and KH 3DS also had full voice acting. RE is even in multiple language and they aren't using a special cart AFAIK. Both are also full 3D games.

I would also think it would be noted in the PR if it had dual VA since the game is only like 3 months away.

The price is probably a result of the overall localization effort and the fact they aren't expecting it to sell much. We are getting it like 2 months after the JPN release too so there might be cost involved with that.

EDIT : Do we know what kind of cart Tales of the Abyss is using?

I'd be okay with this. Or if it's English dub only, a mute option :B

Just ran through this thread and didn't see these posted yet, here are [most of] the contents of the SMT IV DX pack [retails at ~$110, check out Nippon-Yasan for pre-orders]:
"MIKADO" T-Shirt:

Postcard Set:
posca2.jpg

Clear Files x2 [unannounced as of now]

"Secret" Wall Scroll

And the standard "Sound & Art Collection" pre-order bonus that seems to be shipping with all first-run copies of the game:

Compared to the Nocturne DX Pack, I can't say I'm all that impressed ._.; I think I may be the only nerdy collector in here so that may not matter to anyone XD

Also! To anyone on the SMTIV hype train not wanting to invest in the JP 3DS XL, amiami.com is now taking pre-orders for some SMT IV 3DS XL-themed skins. Still hunting for images of what they actually look like, will post back with findings ^^;

I really like these character designs, but I'm gonna miss Kaneko. I mean look at those covers a few posts up, really nice stuff.

And those demons from the new designer they got still aren't sitting well with me.

I know the game's gonna be awesome but, Kaneko ;-;

There's been four games that I know of that use the 4GB card so far: RE:R, MGS3D, New Love Plus, and KH3D. I honestly don't know if SMT4 will, but the three of those games that did see release in the US were sold for $40.

I feel the same ._.; Like, I'm annoyed that there's finally a Centaur demon in SMT and it's a freaking pair of carousel horses... not cool ;>> Though I don't even know if there ever was a Kaneko version of a Centaur but that's besides the point ^^; I'll just cry if Samael and Lucifer get redrawn to match *shudder* all the other weird angel redesigns with the face-chests and whatnot x.x

Regardless, I will pre-order this when I go to pick up Soul Hackers...also, I need a 3DS XL, gotta camp the Canadian Gaming Deals thread XD
