The original story regarding the Killer Instinct trademark as of 2012 can be found here.

I posted the news in this thread, but I figured it could warrant its own thread. Anyway, new data as of the 1st of April shows that Fox Television Studios, Inc. and Microsoft have come to terms over this issue:

The Applicant has entered into a Coexistence Agreement with the Owner of the cited application, a copy of which is submitted herewith. As shown in the attached Coexistence Agreement, the Owner of the cited application consents to registration of the subject application.

The original agreement in PDF format is linked but doesn't lead anywhere, so at the moment we only have the agreement in poor JPG quality:

With a little luck perhaps we'll get an announcement at E3? Good news nonetheless for the future of the franchise.

Okay, a Killer Instinct title of some measure has to be happening now considering the resources invested.

Killer Instinct was never good. People only liked it because it looked graphically impressive at the time. Bring back Jet Force Gemini instead.

I have no idea what the hell I'm reading. So give it to me simple.

Can Microsoft use the Killer Instinct name again or not?

I think Arcade-perfect ports on XBL would suffice.
A KI3 creation akin to the recent Mortal Kombat games would be welcome but not sure if the fanbase is there to make a profit...

Pretty much have to agree with this.

Where does KI sit in a post-SFIV world?

Also, wtf, Fox? Had no idea they were part of this. omg, was it because they had a show at one point by the same name, though totally unrelated to the game?

I mean, come on, it's a common phrase. Killer Instinct. Copyrighting the words themselves seems totally crazy; the logo and usage, sure, but the words? Fuck.

These seems as silly as that iOS game that came out called Scrolls, which somehow infuriated the Elder Scrolls people. It's a word. Fuck.

Microsoft can use it worldwide as long as they follow the terms of the agreement. The most important is that both parties have agreed on taking reasonable measures to market and sell respective products to prevent confusion on consumer level.

I'm confused as to why this was an issue in the first place. Like how Biohazard had to be changed to Resident Evil because there was a band named Biohazard. They aren't even in the same market to ever clash with one another, to be confused for one another, or to even be mentioned in the same breath.

Killer Instinct could make a comeback in popularity if it releases during the early part of next gen and is a good game.

That's kind of the benefit of the early period of a gen. More people are willing to try new things since there usually isn't that much to play.

That sounds reasonable... weird that these things can also be resolved in a reasonable manner, doesn't happen that much...

B. Orchid cosplay photos incoming, no doubt.

Also, I thought the game was fun. Just release 'em on Live and cash in on the nostalgia.

Good for everyone that wants this.

Personally, I don't get it.

Me either.
Nostalgia goggles are hard to shake sometimes until you get what you wished for.
By then it is too late.
It was never a good game, the auto combo system in my opinion seriously hurt fighting games.
People thought it was great because they could do sixty hit combo by memorizing a few button presses.
It was fun, don't get me wrong I had my fun with it but I do not understand why it is looked at as some grail. But let it come and we will see, more fighting games the better.

It will be something like this.
-Room goes dark.

-Killer Instinct announcer says "MS is proud to present.....KILLER INSTINCT!".

-Crowd cheers!

-Killer Instinct title screen appears and the crowd is still going crazy!

-Kinect! appears as after "Killer Instinct".

-Crowd goes dead silent.

-Demonstration for the game happens with Kinect galore.

-This happens

I would like to see Microsoft do a AAA big budget Killer Instinct 3 (as well as port the first to games to XBLA).

After having played a lot of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter this gen I would love to see another fighting game re-imagined and brought to be a level of a more modern fighter.

Loved the original Killer Instinct in the arcade... back in the days of the "Ultra 64"
ULTRAAAAAA, ULTRAAAAA, ULTRAAAA, ULTRAAA, ultraaa, ultraa, ultra..............

This is 100% accurate.

And this is what it will be.

A bunch of my friends really miss this game. There was just something about it that was really gun, unique and "cool". It's not meant to be a tournament fighter folks.
