I despise the Playstation controller. I have much preferred my 360 this generation. I still love Gears of War. I could deal with Kinect if the technology improved. I actually like XBox Live and don't mind paying for it.

Yet I shall be pre-ordering a Playstation 4 the minute that always-online XBox is confirmed... Unless the announcement is when the shops aren't open, but you GET MY DRIFT.

MS can spin this whole thing if games come out to be cheaper. More legitimate sales could lower the prices of games faster, then publishers could pass that on to consumers. Thats the story I would run with.
I don't think publishers will like being told to lower the price of their games. I think they want to sell them at full price no matter what.

Replace GoW for Halo and it's the same for me.

On a positive note, at least the console war won't be as ferocious. With 360 vs PS3 both had their advantages, but now.........

PS4ever.

It's funny how Microsoft has not made any next gen announcements, and we don't even know what the ps4 console physically looks like (or final specs), yet folks are choosing sides....

Anyway, back to Sweet Billy.

I still can't wait to see Polygon's take on this. Hurry up MS, send out your usual 'we don't comment on rumours or speculation' denial so Arthur Gies can be your attack dog once again. Twitter is waiting!

What happened? I just got here.

edit: oh shit, 66 pages?! Even more curious now.

I'm not sure where that poster who does thread recaps is -- but I'll try my best..

  • NeoGAF user Shinobi screen caps the tweets of Adam Orth, Creative Director at MSFT Studios.
  • These tweets contain the fallacious analogies you see in the OP -- in defense of an always-online console box.
  • In conjunction with the Kotaku thread about the always-online rumors, this thread blows up.
  • The story is picked up by popular gaming sites including CVG, Verge, Kotaku, and others.
  • David Jaffe attempts to defend the character of Adam (they were former coworkers) -- but particularly his comments regarding rural towns in the US and their online infrastructure.
  • Adam attempts to excuse the tweets as jokes and locks his twitter account.
  • Detective-GAF then finds an alleged dev on a separate forum claiming one should keep up with their ISP bills (implying some truth to the rumor).
  • Detective-GAF then confirms that alleged dev to be an actual developer working on next-gen games.
  • The story continues to blow up on reddit, reaching the front page with thousands of comments.
  • A user in the reddit thread claims Adam is an ass in person and he insists on being called 'sweet billy.'
  • Detective-GAF then confirms Adam is in fact, sweet billy, here on GAF. And his tweets confirm he is, in fact, an ass.
  • Aaron Greenberg claims to be unaware of the existence of Adam Orth. [Insert Sweet Billy joke]

IMDB game credit profiles...
- Adam Orth
- Sweet Billy

In case you want to see what games he's worked on apart from the aforementioned credits (i.e. God of War, Medal of Honor: European Assault, etc.)

Looks like the Reddit guy got to know him when he was a game tester on Croc 2.

89x0 or titan it is this year.
Halo 5 better be good but given halo 4 and 343 that not gonna happen. Ooh shit need a ps4 or durango too for destiny whatever is cheaper on destiny release day.

Well screw this then. I'll happily await the re-entering of the hardware market by Sega before I buy into this bullshit.
At least I can still play my Master System 25 years later unlike this always connected or you can't play the games you bought horses hit. What a retarded move.

I moved house recently, and i don't know how it works in the good ol' US of A, but here in the UK its customary to lose internet for 3-5 weeks when you move.

Steam worked in offline mode for a week, then insisted on being reconnected again before letting me play my own games. The homicidal, impotent, game-denied rage i felt during this time is not something i want to experience again.

Okay, from what I've read of only the first page and the last few pages:

1. MS developer says some douchey things defending the always online thing.
2. Random reddit user claims he worked with said developer and that he was in fact, a douche.
3. Wonderful gaffer finds post confirming part of random reddit user's testimony.

Is that it, or did I miss anything else?

Thank ye, kindly, sir!

Goddamn it! This is the sort of thing I used to love about GAF. Gotta start following the gaming forum more closely again!

Wow, I've had steam offline for almost 4 weeks with no problem a lot, to prevent updates for games. Only thing I can think of is your computer was restarted before you were able to make steams offline mode default for a PC reboot.

[*]Detective-GAF then confirms Adam's is in fact, user sweet billy, here on GAF.
The priceless part for me is that his one GAF post features him apologizing for his IM comments potentially reflecting on Sony in a negative light.

And then six years later THIS happens...
