Kotaku: Tales of Xillia won't hit US shores until August 6th

Lock if old:

"Even if the foundation of the game might be the same, we always change the story up, the characters, the music," Baba said. "We always try to tweak the battle system in a way that offers something new. Some of the stuff is the same, but I wouldn't say that everything is identical."

I don't know if I agree with him there, but one of Baba's newest games, Tales of Xillia, which came out in Japan back in 2011 but won't hit U.S. shores until August 6, does change things up in one significant way: there's a female protagonist. A rarity, for a video game—especially a Japanese RPG.

Later than I was hoping, but finally!

The teasing about the Tales filled year has me excited too

And it's mentioned so casually in the article. Still finally it will be out though I am wondering about this teasing myself. It's more like a Tales filled second half of the year in any case.

Wait, didn't they already told before they were aiming at a Summer release for the game? August 6th seems like a matching date for that idea.

A little later than I'd hoped but it's coming at least. I hope the EU release date isn't too far behind.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
*checks upcoming August releases* Nothing to drown it out. No Final Fantasy XII on the same day or Mass Effect 3 within the same week. The earliest August release right now is Disney Infinity on the 18th.

Unless Square-Enix decides to release Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix that week.

Better later than never. No worries. Staying excited and thankful it's actually being released. Same with Ni no Kuni.

Not taking things for granted with localizations anymore. A huge special thanks to Namco-Bandai for doing these localizations. Same to Xseed and Atlus.

Mad speculation here, but:

What if they plan to release Xillia 2 here late this year? Pushing Xillia back some may have just been to shorten the gap between the two games.

if Xillia 2 was released at all here this year then I'd be both shocked and delighted. It would help shorten the gap between 'console' Tales games at the very least

But that is wishful thinking for the most part.

Not only would it shorten the gap, but it would live Up to being a "Tales filled year"

Not gonna work myself up but it could happen. They've probably been sitting on Xillia for a while too - voices were done in November

They did two releases that one year with Legendia and Abyss, so I wouldn't be surprised. Would help VA-wise if they got both games out of the way.

They were probably referring to Graces' re-release onto PSN. It's not what anyone probably wants, but there's no way they'll release Xillia 1 and 2 back to back like that. I wouldn't be surprised if the "late" release date for 1 is to give plenty of space to let Ni No Kuni breathe from earlier this year.

If it's relevant to anyone's interests, the tentative date for Dragon's Crown is August 6th. Retailers have been listing that for a couple months and Atlus does indeed have it pegged for summer.

But the article itself states that he can't say too much now but look forward to more announcements and Graces f PSN release is something we already know.

But wait a minute: didn't Baba say last month that this will be a "Tales-filled year"? "I can't say much yet," the producer answered, smiling, "but please look forward to more announcements."

He announced it with the launch of Graces on PSN, so who knows? He could be including it for consideration. He also directly references surprise announcements, so simply announcing Xillia 2 for the West could complete a trifecta of news for a "year of Tales".

It's all conjecture at this point though, so pay it no mind. I'd very much love to be wrong, but I'll eat my hat if we see 1 & 2 in the US this year. It just doesn't add up from a common sense perspective. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

Well it could add up if they really don't want to skip Xillia 2 after releasing Xillia 1 (since they really want to catch up to the latest console releases in Japan) but yeah, I don't think it would happen and it is mostly wishful thinking but I also can't think of what other Tales things could be announced for this year.

But whatever, hopefully we find out what he means by "Tales filled year" soon.

Well well, there's more in there too.

On the Vita:
During a brief chat at a hotel in Manhattan yesterday afternoon, I asked the bubbly producer about a number of topics. I asked about the Vita games they've released in Japan: Tales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R. (The Rs stand for "remake.") His answer was refreshingly candid.

"Unfortunately, at this present time we don't have any plans to release any of the Vita titles," Baba said. "One of the main reasons is, unfortunately the PlayStation Vita is doing relatively poorly in North America, so it's one of those things that if the numbers increased considerably, then it's something we could consider."

On a Tales-filled year:

But wait a minute: didn't Baba say last month that this will be a "Tales-filled year"? "I can't say much yet," the producer answered, smiling, "but please look forward to more announcements."

Isn't it weird that Kotaku drop the date out of nowhere ? They didn't respect some kind of embargo or what ?

Either way I'm fine with it if it's a simultaneous release with PAL regions

You know what Kotaku has been putting out all the big rumours lately and they have mostly been accurate. Props to them and I am delighted that we can get the game before summer holiday ends. YESSSSSS. JRPG summer it is.

There's probably going to be a game announced at the Tales of Festival that they can bring to the US fast like a Tales of Symphonia port or he could just be talking about Japan in which I can see thebn getting 3-4 Tales games announced.

What is with Namco taking centuries to localize Tales games? Why does it take well over a year to localize it when they're very likely already sitting on the game.
