Of Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft; which would the industry miss the least?

If the industry were to ask you to remove one of the big three (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) from the video game industry both as a manufacturer and publisher, which would you choose and why? Which would the industry miss the least?

Nintendo- Classic IPs like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid. Great handhelds.

Sony- Classic IPs like God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Jak and Drake, and more. Great hardware. Great publisher. Become very important for indies.

Microsoft- Xbox Live, Classic IPs like Halo, Forza, Gears of War.

IMO it would be Microsoft. While MS definitely helped bring online gaming to the console crowd and pushed it mainstream, online gaming for consoles is now growing independently of MS. Sony is pushing it forward with the PS4 in a big way.

Microsofts IPs like Halo and Forza sell well but there are so many shooters around and a few popular racing IPs too.

To me, the Xbox and what it brings to the industry just isn't vital for the good of the industry like Nintendo and Sony's IPs and hardware are.

Whatabout you?

I would guess that the industry would probably miss Nintendo the least, given how many third parties flat out ignore them.

Me personally, I'd miss Microsoft the least.

Everyone is going to say Xbox, especially with the rumors of the nextbox.

Where's the lie though?

Microsoft hands down. The only thing they've brought to the table is online gaming and someone would eventually pick that one up if they didn't arrive. But everything else they've introduced has been leaving nothing but bitter aftertaste.

How would they? Nintendo pretty much brought back the gaming, without them there probably wouldn't be third party industry ignoring them.

I would argue sony OR microsoft
To lose both would be terrible
It feels like Nintendos got its own market thingy for kids but sony/microsoft shares. GAF will say microsoft, but either of those two die and the other can live cause of all those multiplatform games or w/e

That make sense?

Personal opinion? Microsoft

Sony, not a fan of their IP's and they don't really bring anything new to the table; just seems like they evolve others ideas.

LOL Ice cold bro.

I have to agree with the majority. Microsoft would not be missed. Especially considering they can release most of their exclusives as PC games or games for windows 8.

The industry would miss Microsoft the most.

Gamers would miss Microsoft the least.

Yea the 360 probably did more gaming than the ps2 and ps1 ever did.

I think without xbox live psn and the wii u's network would be in even worse shapes.

That is not to say Xbox live is perfect it still needs alot to catch up to pc multiplayer.

Competitive shooter lovers would miss microsoft the most.

Sony's IP's are considered classics now? Just makes me feel old, and I'm only 23.

But otherwise, I'd say Microsoft, outside of online connectivity, I don't feel they've benefited the Industry much. But rather their rise this generation, turned the gamer image from more of a nerdom, and more of a jock dudebro stereotype. Especially with the oversaturation of FPS games, of course there's other companies responsible here, but they all found a home and a continual buying demographic on Microsofts systems.

Industry? I'm not sure what that means. If it's a profitability question then the answer this generation would probably be Sony. If it's a third-party question then the answer has been Ninty for a decade now.

But if I understand what you mean, then the answer is MSFT. And that's irrespective of the only-online rumors of their next box.

Yes? God of War has sold well since the PS2 and Uncharted is arguably Sonys most important IP besides GT.

I think the fact that they're important to the company doesnt make them "classic" tho

I think a lot of people would be ok with the concept of Uncharted and God of War being done and replaced with something else

Sony. Outside of GAF and some European countries, they have become irrelevant of late. Though I do like their indie approach.

Well if you say industry as in other devs and publishers, it would be Nintendo.
Nintendo only cares about themselves that third party is always dead.

Consumers would put Microsoft in that position.

Nintendo. Losing Mario and Zelda wouldn't be a big deal except to the faithful, which is a group that's getting smaller and smaller. Neither would losing whatever gimmick they come up with for their next consoles.

Microsoft has at least brought a lot of online elements to consoles, made it more social. Would Sony have ever tried to get PSN up to speed if Xbox Live didn't exist? Probably not. And as for Sony, they've brought a lot of great games, including new IPs, and of course their hardware is usually top notch.

This, too. Third party situation is terrible and has been for decades now (man I'm getting old) so they wouldn't be losing much revenue at all. Some of them don't even support the platform anymore (EA).

Personally, MS and Sony are both at the same level when it comes to first party. Neither of them have a franchise that I'd really miss if a sequel were never made. Third party really stepped up their game this gen and they are truly the ones I follow. But if I had to make a choice, Microsoft is slightly in favor to take the title of least missed.

Possibly. But no one would like to see either of those studios shut down. On the other hand, if microsoft gets shutdown we lose the ghost of rare and a shell of lionhead...?
