You can still be a multimedia box with all these social features and still focus on gaming like the PS4. Its clear the focus of the next xbox is not gaming anymore, its more like gaming is another feature not the main point of the console.
IGN's article has 8200 comments and the top comment had 15 000 upvotes. Its crazy. MS surely see this.
It's more likely than not that the "always online" rumor is true. The amount of raw hatred for the idea would have, you'd think, prompted MS to deny it by now if it wasn't the case. I think this is it for them, honestly. The PS brand catches on everywhere, the Xbox one does not, for starters. Even if they patch out the undesirable aspects they allegedly will implement, it'll be too late. The PS4 will be on the shelves beside it. With the RRoD, there weren't any options for another year.
Sony took back a lot of market share in the latter part of this hardware cycle, and could easily keep gaining ground into the next generation. The Wii U has stalled, and MS going "always online" will be a complete disaster. The key difference is that nobody hates the Wii U, they just want some games before they buy one. It's easy to make more software, it's not easy to completely restructure your console and its network, depending on how the infrastructure is set up (especially when your company takes over 3 years to completely eradicate the RRoD).

On the contrary, since the Xbox 360, the primary new products from MS have been Zune, Kin, Windows Phone, and Surface. I'm neglecting to mention Windows and Office because they aren't new products. But it's pretty easy to see that all of MS's attempts at new products the past decade have been disastrous. MS is not a company which knows or cares what it's customers want, it's a company which knows and cares what it wants. And judging from Windows 8 and Office 2013, it's becoming increasingly clear that what MS wants and it's customers want are increasingly in opposition to each other. An online-only, can't play games unless connected to the Internet Nextbox would be just another example of what MS wants and they don't give a flying fuck what their customers want. Which is fine, Win8 is failing spectacularly and the early word of mouth on Office 2013 is not positive. When the Nextbox fails, maybe MS will come to their senses and realize that being the de-facto computer OS monopoly doesn't mean they can just shit out anything they like and people will buy it in droves. If not, surely at some point their shareholders will wake up and finally get rid of Ballmer and his board. Maybe.

its interesting that people are saying ms will lose and sony will win, when infact sony is allowing devs to do this on ps3 if they so wish, well when third party devs start releasing games for durango and ps4 dunrago will be always and if the game is coming out on ps4 then it will be always online there too.

Third party games that are region locked on 360 are not region locked on the PS3. Just sayin'. All publishers will not want to take the heat you get for always on-drm.

I haven't followed Windows 8 AT ALL, so would anyone enlighten me on what shitty practices MS is doing with Windows 8.
Windows 8 offers nearly zero reasons for consumers to upgrade from Windows 7. It is the weakest OS transition in a long time in terms of feature set and sales.
It's fun to hate...especially when it's change, new things, etc.
I have Windows 8 as my primary gaming PC and laptop. It actually creates a better workflow environment. I get higher FPS in games (even if it's slight), and the speed is incredible.
