also as a reminder: allegedly no Conroy

im just.. not feeling this :/ I wanna be surprised, but a lot of the ingridients are missing. I dont wanna say it feels like a cash-in on the popularity of the first games but man

hope im surprised

This is understandable if Bats is younger.

I guess but I really dont like any other of the Batman voice actors as much

like maybe if they went in a reeeeeeally different direction than the two arkham games

like if this was the b-tier (not to sound condescending or anything) team take on Batman. Whole different thing

but they're still retconing it to the Arkham games and using all of the same tropes, combat, hook, etc

if it was very different (wich granted still could be I guess?) i'd be more alright with it, but at the moment it just feels like something to chew on while we wait for the "real" game.

A few changes in mechanics can both give the title its own identity apart from Rocksteady's vision, and hearken back to it.

I'm excited to see what this becomes. It could be a refreshing take on a tested and very fun game, or a clusterfuck of "what the fuck?!"

I still hope for the best. Bats has had some pretty awesome interpretations from other VA's than Conroy.

edit: My standards are lower. I mean sure... there are better interpretations than others, but I still go "Bats!" when I see an episode of The Batman.

im down for this, I just worry that it's a team trying to copy Rocksteady, wich IMO is not the way they should go at it at all

We're already seeing a shift in mechanics if the grappler holds true.

And a more involved approach to the combo system as well.

I wouldn't want it to feel completely dissimilar, since it's under the Arkham banner, but I do like what I'm hearing about their design changes. That grappling hook able to attach to any part of the environment alone with the larger city will make this a worthy open world Batty title.

I don't see how this isn't a positive outcome. Arkham City lead to Rocksteady making the combat somewhat more convoluted because they tried to add more(the 'finishers' particularly with the throwing all the batarangs and using the grapple in battle and all those weird button combinations.)

This lets a new developer take tools that have already been crafted and probably not have to focus on changing up the engine entirely(kind of like New Vegas), so they can focus on the content of the game itself. It also frees up Rocksteady to work on something new where they can try all sorts of different things.

I'd be bummed out if Rocksteady was making this, honestly.

Though Warner Montreal should rename their studio Bebop.

But they need to shove in Joker so it can appeal to masses at moment Court Of Owls is not mainstream enough to most people.

No doubt Joker pops up in this I suspect it going be another City situation with plot

What I mean is when City was being advertised/announced it was built around idea of Dr Strange knowing Batman is bruce and locked him away but in the game it was the Joker show ,Strange had little to do with it overall which is damn shame.

I suspect this game will do same Black Mask is face villain but focus will shift onto Joker being created by Batman by accident a la Under Red Hood film then etc etc especially with the focus of it being a prequel and meeting future villains

maybe im just jaded or paranoid who knows

That would adapt so damn well to a game. Owls would be great to play through. Got your action. Got your detective work. Could even throw the cast like Nightwing and Damien as playable characters for main or side missions.

I better stop. This is why I can't have nice things.

I'd throw money at a pre-52 Batman INC game as well.

To hell with the Joker (I'm all Joker'd out).

- Can string up an explosive barrel under a perch, lure enemies with a sonic batarang, then cut the rope with a normal batarang, dropping the explosive on their heads

Wouldnt that kill someone? Doesnt exactly sound like Batman.

Rocksteady-developed. I am so glad. (I'm only sorry a developer of their talent has to keep working on one IP.)

Now all I need is Adam West doing Batman's voice and I'm in for sure.

Whatever. Not really what I wanted, especially by a new developer. But, I love me some Batman, so I'll be there day one.

Don't fuck over the PC crowd with a twice delayed release followed by a buggy release this time, please.

Oh shit at the JC2 grapple. Hell fucking yes.

This stuff sounds good. I'm there, hopefully it stacks up to the previous games. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm not going to get my hopes up about this, Arkham City was already a really disappointing sequel and that was developed by Rocksteady.

Here's hoping it has:
- No Joker
- A really improved combat system
- Less filler (and that includes the challenges)
- A decent story this time

So auto easy mode when the player suck. smh x1000

Why developers this generation are very afraid of letting the players having any hard time in the game or getting any satisfaction of doing hard tasks/fights.

Is that what it meant? I read it as you do sidequests to unlock new gear, and it's given to you via Alfred saying something like "Oh that (sidequest you just finished) looked tough, here's an explosive batarang" or what have you.

Alright. I'm game. Could potentially be more grounded and distance itself from some of the more... outrageous elements of the first two games.

Although the idea of the assassins sounds kind of... lame. Ill be watching this one closely when it gets closer to release time.

Also, here's hoping for the villains all starting out as well for the most part. The early days of Scarecrow would be amazing.

How would a grapple pull a heavy object towards an enemy without pulling the enemy towards the heavy object? That's right, I'm hatin' on the physics of a comicbook hero videogame.

I'm not a huge fan of either Arkham game, so a change of developers actually gets me a little more interested. Maybe the new team makes some changes that make the game more fun to me.

I can't really say why, but I lost interest in both Asylum and City about halfway through. Both are pretty cool games, no doubt, but I think they felt kind of repetitive... But I've got to admit that I seem to be the only person on Earth who doesn't enjoy Arkham's combat system.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I'm interested to see how this turns out, City was an unfocused mess (though still enjoyable) compared to Asylum and by the end I was not that interested in another game. A change in developer might be what's needed.

So, is this actually a Rocksteady game?

Edit: apparently not. Who is it then?

When they make the Old Gotham/ New Gotham distinction, are they saying that half the map is just Arkham City's (albeit, I assume, with changes), and half is new?

Sounds like that if you read between the lines. Sorry if already asked.

Quite possible... I would say most likely it's just Old Gotham is the run down poor area of the city, similarly dilapidated like Arkham City, whereas New Gotham will be all nice for the rich/white folk. I don't see them reusing Arkham City too much given that it wasn't particularly well designed/memorable.

Gutted to learn it won't be a full on Batman origins story. Would be so psyched for a year one style game where you spent a good chunk of time as Bruce Wayne.
