Gaf has constantly refered to them as the worst Zelda games since the CDi ones.

Are we seeing a u-turn in opinions suddenly because a new one is out? :/

Good thing 'Gaf' is not a hivemind, but rather a community comprised of many different individuals with many varying opinions.

I for one am really excited. A Link to the Past is still my favorite Zelda game, so I can't wait to try a follow-up. The use of different layers is very reminiscent of dungeon layouts in ALttP, and many of those were some of my favorite Zelda dungeons. I hope the overworld exploration is as good as ALttP's.

I guess I should take a look at that 3DS trailer.

I actually like the new style, with one exception: the transition from cliff to grass isn't distinct enough. Not a huge sense of height, and because of this the world just looks really flat. Hope it isn't like this to "force" the player to use 3D.

I didnt even know Zelda had a timeline until last year. Is it like an alternate universe timeline or something?

I'm too scared because of spoilers, I've only really played 2-3 Zelda games

No, GAF is not a singular individual. Not everyone hated those games. I certainty did not when they came out, and I still dont.

After looking at the sharper screens of the game and examining the youtube video in that context, I think I'm fine with how the game looks. Link looks pretty classic, the animation and game speed is OK. I don't think it really looks "NSMB"-like.

Some people on GAF have spent a great deal of hate on the DS games, while an apparently equal number have said they are good to great.

There's no consensus on them being terrible games, just as there's no consensus in Zelda-land about practically any game in the series. Except maybe The Adventure of Link.

Zelda games graphics tend to improve a lot from their first trailer to how they looks in their final form. Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword all looks inferior in their first trailer. I dont know if this has something to do with Nintendos philosophy of gameplay first, then polishing up the graphics. But I doubt if these graphics are final. Even if they are, they look good to me (E shop version).

I'd prefer a new 2D game by flagship. Minish Cap was great and looked great as well(oracle games where great too). Apparently flagship is gone, is the core group still together somewhere?

It's merely a bunch of references and little nods and hints that tie games together. The only times they've ever mattered in the plot at all the game does a good enough job giving the basic idea what's going on without getting bogged down in detail.

Oh man, Link to the Past was a favorite game of mine as a kid. Felt incredibly smart doing some of those puzzles and finding "clinks" in the walls.

I might need to get a 3DS come christmas

I was really disappointed when I first saw this. Just watched the vid on the eShop. It looks much much better in motion, on the tiny screen.

I agree that some color correction is needed in the overworld, but it looks quite good.

A lot of the people who worked at Flagship work at Nintendo now, making Zelda games. Skyward Sword was actually directed by the same person who directed The Minish Cap, Hidemaro Fujibayashi.

Ugh, Buzz Blob is such a stupid name. Chuchu is much better.

They are technically different enemies.

Hate to say it, but I'm really not feeling it. Can't quite put my finger on what's bothering me about it, but that's just my gut reaction.
Damn, I was so excited from the thread title, though. ;_;

Oh, and no pink hair, no buy. D:

If this is their big Christmas game, I'm selling my system.

It's 2013. There's no excuse for making 2D Zelda other than laziness. I didn't buy a handheld this decade to play SNES games with polygons.

You just hate everything, don't you?

Been waiting a long ass time for another 2D Zelda and this will hopefully deliver. "no excuse other than laziness", yeah alright. That must be why they're the best Zelda games, laziness.

I guess my eyes are super awesome cause I can see the layers just fine in 2D. : )
Sure, you can see the layers, but you miss out on the depth and separation and solidity you can only get in 3D. Don't know why you'd do that when it's crafted for 3D. I'll be cranking this one all the way up!

So, this is played with buttons, right? Someone confirm this for me so I can be excited for this game.

I think I'd prefer a little more saturation, but maaaaaaaaaan who cares... another ALTTP style game...

I'll worry about all sorts of things later. Just taking this all in now.

No. Entirely gyro controls with AR functionality.

:p

The negative comments about the art style remind me of the reaction Wind Waker got when it was first unveiled.

You do know that Flagship made games the same way mystwalker does. Capcom production group 1 did the real work.

Have they ever had a day-night cycle in a classic-style Zelda? I want to see the little houses with their windows lit up in the dark, looking all warm and cozy and shit.

Also, this is being made by EAD, right?

PH and ST could really only be controlled with the touchscreen because all the action took place down there... just by virtue of the action taking place up top, it's probably button based.

I downloaded the trailer from the eShop and watched it in 3D.

The sense of depth is pretty nice. The difference between lower and higher levels really stands out.
