Xing Interactive: Our sources say next Xbox will block used games, require online

And your point is?

GameStop is easily the lesser of 2 evils here. Oh waah, they sell used games! They're evil!! Waah!

You're an idiot. This has nothing to do with just selling used games.

Gamestop created a monopoly on the used game retail industry by buying out all competitors, which the US regulatory agencies should have never allowed to happen with EB Games, and has sense price gouged consumers for ridiculous margins on used games.

Not only that, but they sell used games as NEW games because their employees are allowed to open the games up and play them and they sell them as new. I particularly enjoyed the game I bought a 'new' GBA Mario Golf game only for it to have a save file.

Throw in the fact they pay employees slave labor and are consistently listed as one of the then worst companies to work for, with horrible ratings on sites such as glassdoor.com, I have no sympathy whatsoever for them getting hurt by this.

Kind of just want them to do it at this point.

That's what I said in one of the many other threads on this subject. Let them go ahead and be the first to implement and champion such a prospect. Defend the decision and back up the stance with reason why it's best for developers and/or consumers.

ATVI is evil. EA is evil and stupid. Betashed is drooling-retarded.

Assuming it's true, EA will make a patchwork of titles ranging from Durango exclusive to PS4 lead with no real rhyme or reason; Activision will go PS4 heavy in the genres EA holds back for Durango and make heaping fistfuls of money while continuing to focus on MMOs and other games with further monetization options; and Bethesda will go Durango-exclusive but all their titles will have fatal bugs due to not being able to properly handle the DDR3-ESRAM split.

you have to ask yourself is there some validity to this... MS is clearly trying to become even more of a closed system like Apple iOS and their stores etc... I wouldn't doubt some of this could happen...

Yeah, but you don't own your console, thanks EULA and TOS. Unlike your beef with GS, you own the stuff you bought, regardless if its new or used.

In response to CrazyButtocks: Thinking about it more Dragon Age 3 makes the most sense. It's pretty far along in development so it'll be out in the launch windo, isn't so big of a franchise that the lost sales from being exclusive would kill the company, and would get a lot more hype for it since they'll have to make up for the antihype of DA2.

I've been saying it along but no way they do this without serious support. I'm talking co marketing, exclusive DLC, exclusive new IP from a few publishers.

So people can't sell their own games to anyone anymore? To Amazon? Best Buy?

I'll guess the Respawn game or some other new IP. I don't think EA would go exclusive with an existing franchise.

I don't like that part of it, but quite frankly, Microsoft and their supporters can go fuck themselves too. I'm not going to shed a tear for two horrible anti consumer practices companies going at one another. I hope it destroys them both.

Don't buy a Durango and don't purchase at Gamestop. Problem solved. They should have never been in a position of wealth in the first place.

Didn't he say a new Dead Rising was supposed to be announced? I might be mistaken. But outside of that he's been legit.

I remember that, and Halo 5 supporting Occulus Rift of the two things he's said so far. I lolled at Wario questioning his sources, and Derrick not believing him either (aside, Derrick got banned? What happened?)

Dude usually has his own derpy threads anyway. Why break tradition?!

Derrick needed a break from being Derrick. I think it's known that MSFT will support VR down the line.

Not to make a habit of defending Gamestop, but a 50/50 split for retailer/supplier is about standard in specialty retail, and they're around 60/40 for most titles before taking the constant promotions into account. It's not a very great deal, and you can usually get better ones from non-chain stores or even Amazon, but it's not a gouge either.

This would make sense for systems that they sell for $99 with a 2 year Xbox Live contract. However, I would hope that MS comes to their senses and not implement this at all.

Can we stop the bullshit about BF4 being MS exclusive? It was confirmed to be on PS4. There might be exclusive DLC and stuff though.

BF4 seems highly unlikely for 2 reasons:

1) They would have to abandon PC
2) That's a enormously expensive money hat.

Why I could believe it;

BF3 sold more on 360 than PC/PS3 combined

What a load of shit. Microsoft makes ten bucks off every third-party disc sold, and we are talking everything from Call of Duty to Need for Speed. And much more money per disc on profitable first-party games like Halo and Forza. The revenue generated by the offline 360 gamer has to be in billions of dollars at this point. They aren't going to walk away from that, it isn't going to happen. Microsoft didn't get to where they are today by leaving billions of dollars on the table.
Source?

How do you know how much MS make from offline gamers?

Edit: the no. of XBL subscribers is apparently ~46 million according to Google. That leaves ~25 million offline users. Without XBL, no XBLA, DLC or media purchases, it's probably likely the owners of these offline boxes aren't big gamers (how could they be with no XBL subscription) so I'm not buying they're a source of "billions of dollars" revenue. For these to generate $1 billion profit, they need to each buy 4 games if your $10 figure is correct. For "billions", that's 8 games each. And that's assuming each 360 hardware sale made zero loss to MS.

I'm pretty invested unto the ms consoles and I'd rather this not happen. Part of me really, really wants it to though, if only to watch whatever may ensue.

I think the Halo 5 thing was a joke. At least that's how I read it.

I am guessing EA and Activision right? I have a feeling both BF4 and CoD will be exclusive to Durango (excluding the PS360 versions)

God that's a scary thought. It would mean Microsoft essentially hijacking the industry and forcing them toward an anti-consumer future, since the casuals are going to have to play their Call of Duty and Battlefield.

If that's the case, I think this would be the first example of a company actually being fair game for legitimate hate and a real movement against them above and beyond the typical fanboy war shite - this would be a direct attack against consumers and the industry altogether, and such an act can receive nothing but ire from people who are honest with themselves.

Said in another thread a while back I really donot see this happening but damn this is like the same thing coming from so many different sources. It is what it is I guess.

Hmmm.. I think you've got the better read on it than I did. Was that around April Fool's time?

Either way, some crazy stuff is clearly afoot. The reveal and E3 is going to be the nuttiest thing ever. GAF may explode server wise again!
