2013 PC Bullshot thread of "1 FPS? That's 1 screenshot per second"

I spent an entire week creating earth and this is the thanks I get?
In his defense, you created bees. Fuck you.

(hint, all of them are horrible but to pick ENB is quite hilarious) as some kind of masterpiece. Cyber bullies are real bad asses.

ENB is not a bad injector. In fact, what Borris does with ENB is quite mind-boggling. Lets take a look at what he's added to Skyrim:

HIGH QUALITY SHADOWS (Skyrim NEEEDED this so bad)
Reflections
Global Illumination + configurable SSAO
Depth of field (with limitless possibilities on how to implement it)
Sky lighting (which also properly casts shadows)
Eye Adaptation (though I hate it)
Sun Rays
Separate settings for night\day\indoors
Etc etc...

That's beyond what I could call a simple "injector" and into the realm of a full-on graphics mod. SweetFX only operates on a flat image and can not do anything close to what ENB can do. That doesn't mean you can't make a game look awful with ENB... because you can. But you can also disable bloom and any sort of coloring, and just use the advanced graphics features if you want.

The problem is, people seem far more inclined to post screenshots with really awful sweetfx settings. Sometimes I don't understand how people can think what they're doing looks good. I mean look at what this guy is doing to Bioshock Infinite.

I really only use SweetFX to a minor degree these days... usually to bump contrast to my own preferences (which some games actually let you do in the menus) and add a TINY amount of sharpening (the same you get using Bicubic sharp resampling, which many people here do). But I still point out when I use it and that has caused one too many shitstorms here, so I'm just going to respect Sethos and Corky and not post them here anymore.

Just so it's not all discussion... screenshot! Kind of an "artsy" shot. From Sleeping Dogs.

Why is Lanczos messing up the colours? I tried converting this with Lanczos2 and the grey clouds started getting these grading bands when there's not enough colours to do a perfect blend. Some other shots got hit as well.

Sounds like you've got a bee in your bonnet ...

I learned last week that Lanczos 2 + ArmA 3 = fucked up skybox. Tons of banding that wasn't there when I used BiSharper.
I would show it as an example, but I deleted the original after posting the image in this thread several pages ago.

I think it's nice to have access to as many useful downsizing tools as possible. It really is dependent on the individual facets of the shot. Some shots benefit from Lanczos, some from BiSharper. More often than not I'm finding BiSharper to produce the better image, but Lanczos has been more useful for other shots. It's good to do the shot in both Photoshop and Faststone and compare them before posting.

I've talked about the idea with a few people, but didn't really think it was my place to make such a thread. However, I'd be willing to do the work to keep it organized. To me one of the best possible outcomes is using GAF people-power to maybe even be able to get a response here and there from devs to actually help us out. I've seen crazier shit done around here before if I recall.
I like that idea. I'm not sure how it will go over will go over with having a thread that's so specific, but if we can have a thread on how to downsample for ATI cards, there's no reason a free camera/hud removal/graphic hack thread wouldn't be worthwhile... even on that latter point, specific hacks like ENB probably shouldn't be relevant (because it modifies how the game handles things like lighting) but something like Durante's Dark Souls fix would be because it allows you to get things like AA, downsampling and unlocked framerates (whilst not really changing the look of the game per se).

Well there was once a thread made for it but the OT got permbanned and it was kind of a mess and not organized.
so if you ever want to start with a thread like that you can look here for some inspiration.

here is the old thread .

Great thread, but probably not as focused for the purposes that are being discussed here. I think what we're looking for is something pretty much specifically built to compliment this thread, and the last thing this thread is about is performance ;)

Doing it as a thread is not hard. For instance, discussion gets to a point where something is concrete, or someone offers something concrete, then highlights it as a 'post' a la the way we post shots here. A page long post is fine in that case. Then a link to that post is made in the first post. Not hard. There's more to be done to make it even cleaner. And in that you have discussion, unlike a wiki, where disparate parties are making changes and whatnot. It can get confusing. Its a better archive, but far less collaborative.

I think I might put some actual planning into a thread. We shall see.
I'm all for that, and I'd be happy to help out as well (even though I'm yet to contribute to this thread). Pretty sure I know what the goal is, and a lot of the games I'd like to do shots for are kinda obscure (Blur and Blood Stone, for instance) and don't really have any information on them at this point in time.

As far as the thread, I have a request!

TO ALL BULLSHOTTERS

If you'd like, please try to get your best shot of a character with a camera. The first that comes to mind for me is the guy on the beach in Bioshock Infinite. I know there are others in other games, so try to whip up your best shit of such a character, and post it!
That's something else that may be an idea... perhaps a vague theme/treasure hunt/goal-type thing every so often? Something like what you've suggested above, like a treasure hunt, but obviously it still has to comply with the "bullshot" rules of this thread. Could be good for providing inspiration for those of us who run out of ideas.

I don't even know if I'll ever play the real game, this editor is too much God damn fun, especially for a military junky like me.

This guy obviously has poor training, finger on the trigger with absolutely no targets in sight.

May I give you a suggestion? Don't use SMAA. As crazy as it sounds, their implementation is beyond terrible and adds a slight FXAA-esque smudge.

It's one of the only games where I use FXAA when playing, purely because of their sharpening filter. The base game is so soft and smudged for some reason.

You're right, that does sound crazy. But I'll take your word for it, I noticed the "smudge" as well, but I thought that was just the way it was supposed to be, as I set SMAA to Ultra as soon as I booted up the game. I'll put the blurry shot in the high-res thread.

I've yet to beat this game. Seems to be dragging a bit here towards the end, but I think it will be over soon.

I think he might want those for other reasons. Possibly as dressing for a thread he plans to create? Who knows. He was kinda mysterious about that request :p

Quite possibly, but I still think it's a good idea... if only to provide inspiration for those of us who are somewhat lacking in the ol' creativity department ;)

More screenshot porn coming to this thread soon, courtesy of a major Project Cars development:

Slightly Mad Studios are very proud to announce a major new addition to the lineup of vehicles available in Project CARS, as Mercedes-Benz is joining the WMD-powered title.

Project CARS will feature nine famous cars from more than 100 years of Mercedes history, including both vintage & modern cars, street cars and racing machinery.

Racing fans will enjoy some of the company's most accomplished race cars, including the 1989 Le Mans-winning Sauber C9, the iconic 1990 190E 2.5-16 Evolution 2 DTM car as well as the 1998 CLK-LM.

But we won't stop there as Project CARS will also include Mercedes' most current racing cars, the 2012 SLS AMG GT3, that is successfully racing in GT3-based series around the world, as well as the 2012 C-Class DTM challenger.

Players that are more into road-going machinery will get plenty to play with as well as the 2013 A45 AMG and the 2010 SLS AMG Coupe are rounding out the choice of Mercedes automobiles in Project CARS.

List Of Included Cars

1952 300 SL W194
1971 300SEL 6.8 AMG 'Rote Sau'
1989 Sauber C9
1990 190E 2.5-16 Evolution 2 DTM
1998 CLK-LM
2012 SLS AMG GT3
2012 C-Class Coupe DTM
2013 A45 AMG
2010 SLS AMG Coupé

WMD members will be the first to enjoy the new cars once they'll be added to the development builds of Project CARS for a first test drive.

To shorten the waiting time, members also get to follow every aspect of the car development process on the WMD forums, from the first steps of development to the finished car out on track.

Project CARS is coming to the PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii U in 2014. For more info, please visit www.wmdportal.com.

Completely wrong thread, but search is down, so fuck it :)

Thanks fellas. Soon I think I'll have a more dramatic Arma 3 shot. There's a surprising amount to learn with it, and it has its own sorta built in SweetFX actually. So hopefully one will be to your taste.

While technically both bullshots, ehhhhhhh I don't think these really fit the bullshot bill, but it's probably one of the most iconic "Camera" games.

Rapidash

Charmander

The trick with Rage is to try and not look where they obviously didn't feel the need to place detailed textures. Like the top of that tower, for example. Some pieces of that actually look completely untextured simply due to the angle.

I feel like this would be a nice shot if not for the same problems:

Oh god I honestly didn't even see those untextured bits until after posting. Don't know how I missed those. I decided to swap it out for a new screen that doesn't have anything so distracting in it.

Thanks alo, and awesome, but yeah :p.

I took this shot of the camera guy in infinite:

(small cause I was working on it for the thread header, sorry). I don't mind it, but I'm still setting things up, so if you guys can post some stuff as well - a shot including a cameraman in it - I'd love some better options. Any aspect ratio is fine, not just 16:9 like this.

The other thing if you guys would like to add input, is the title. I only really set on one term "The Compendium", but whatta you guys got? Any humorous suggestions?

As of now I'm working with The NeoGAF Screenshotting Compendium Thread. It lacks the classic "of lololololol statement".

Screenshot Compendium Thread of "We make Ini edits then screenshot it"

Edit, I must have missed, but what is the thread gonna be for?

Sooper Soaker edit: Just re-read the last few pages, I get it... Changed the title.

I think this game looks better in 4K WITHOUT ubersampling. I think that pushes the blur to 11.

Also... "In Soviet Russia, Screen Shoots You."

I'll see myself out

also yargh at that guy slipping in a second post so quickly :(

Like antitrop in the high-res thread, have a mod remove it. Ask nicely :) It's kinda important to have those posts adjacent to each other.

I added Sleeping Dogs. I'll probably try and add a few other games with possibly lesser known techniques.

Nice Sethos, can't wait to see what people do with GTAV.

Now that I've sold off my PC I'll be skulking this thread via my iphone for a foreseeable future. FML.

I don't know how you managed to get such a great shot of Crysis without mods. I booted it up a few weeks ago and it looked pretty bad. Extremely low resolution foliage and all.

Always love me some Crysis 1. Is it just me or is the game CPU limited at this point? Still can't reach proper 60fps on a 680 + 3770K (stock). Framerate dips in the bigger firefights. It's a shame that it's so unoptimized. Wish they would remake it on CryEngine 3.

Yeah man, thats some excellent IQ in crysis 1. Usually the palm leaves look like serrated knives.

EDIT: Oh shit. 8k?? are people jumping into SRWE these days or something else??

Oh god I just realized that my Crysis tank screen wasn't taken at 8K. I was messing around with even higher resolutions and that screen was taken at 15360 x 8640, which is what? 16K? I don't even know anymore.
