Battlefield 4 survey hints @ DLC incl. naval, BF3 maps, & DINOSAURS [EA: Survey Real]

It sucks if DICE drags Metro along because people play that thing a lot to boost their score to unlock stuff faster in BF3's agonizingly tedious treadmill. While in actuality that map may be the worst Battlefield map ever. Or maybe on consoles with less players it's less intolerably static and dull? In any case, sucks. The general idea of remaking BF3 maps in BF4 is a very uninteresting one regardless. Back to Karkand was alright because we hadn't seen those maps since 2005. Remaking BF3 maps is just lazy and naff and boring. I don't want to keep playing the same maps I've been playing and gotten kind of tired of. That's just...bleh. Give me new stuff.

Second DLC idea has more potential. Granted it'll have actual ships and (drivable) carriers and stuffs.

Third sounds somewhat loopy. Most interesting indeed, if you care more for co-op horde mode things. DICE's previous attempts at a co-op mode haven't been great. But caveman combat vs dinosaurs will at the very least change things up. If this ends up actually being a thing this'll be the first BF co-op mode I bother trying out.

Not sure if anyone posted it before, but I asked EA for a response and here's their official statement:

We value the feedback from our fans and are constantly looking for ways to improve our games. We conduct annual surveys that include topics that range from random ideas to specific themes to see what resonates. These are just some of the ideas included in our survey and not indicative of anything we have in the works.

So, they didn't debunk the survey but mentions "it's not indicative of anything they're working on." Playing safe or does it mean they're really just that, asking for an opinion?

I'm kind of shocked they even commented.

These gaming surveys always seem like a form of viral marketing to me.. they always leak onto the internet

That said.. if DINOSAURS were the new Zombies, it'd be awesome

I'm surprised as well. They're probably playing it safe, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the things mentioned lead to actual content.

EA surveys are generally quite accurate, so unless they get negative feedback these will probably happen.

Honestly, as much as I don't really care for the vanilla BF3 maps... if they ported all the BF3 maps (and I'm talking all) to BF4, I'd be completely okay with that. Add in the new BF4 maps as well and baby we got some map variety of ol' goin'.

(Too bad it won't happen and shitty maps like Metro won't be rebalanced in Rush. That third set, WHY.jpg)

Metro itself isn't a bad idea. And it is just as much of a clusterfuck at 24 players on consoles as it would be with 32(64?) players on PC.

The problem with Metro (and most vanilla BF3 maps) is the lack of alternate routes, this is readily apparent on Rush (can't reach third set unless you smoke and GOOD FUCKING LUCK GETTING THERE if a good team has dug in around it) variants of it. But Conquest is just as bad with the three flag console variant being "whoever is the RU (or US, forgetting) team that spawns at A, rushes past A with one player capping it, and caps B will win the game" because they control the high-ground, have control on the two stairways leading up and the "back" stairwell can be covered with C4 and grenades to where the map is locked down easily.

Agreed. Whilst it's a good place to grind dat XP, 90% of the time you end up being trapped on conquest. They need to heavily redesign it for me to even look forward to a BF 4 version.

Honestly? Same here. I had to wait more than 10 hours though before they did, which meant we lost a ton of "Teh hittzz!" but I honestly thought the survey was fake or something and wanted to check first before running the story.

PR peeps from companies are quite easy to get now. If they don't respond, normally that means you've touched a nerve or something that's true -- even if part of it.

GameStop gave a statement to one BF4 leak, but the "Commander" one? Nope, never got back to me, so I suspect someone got told off. ;D

Hey, so the Dino mode is co-op..imagine getting to play out something similar to the long grass scene in TLW:

Didn't they tease dinos for the entirety of BF3's content release schedule? Or was that just fans constantly asking for it after a couple coy remarks?

It was part tease, part fan trollin', all hype.

I think the teasers and easter eggs were all they could realistically do at the time.

If they ever find a way to work dinos into gameplay, that would require substantial planning, time, and effort.

So it makes the most sense, if it ever happened, to be some sort of DLC. So instead of close quarters, Vietnam, Co-op, Onslaught, or some other expansion/mode of that size, maybe they could do dinosaurs?

Not a thing to do on a whim.

Do they really have to conduct a survey to see if people would be into this? Really? Of course they would be. It sounds crazy.

Maybe "Dinosaurs" in a battlefield game is a hard sell to the folks holding the dev money... and a survey is a good way to show the overwhelming interest?

no dinosaurs = maybe i'll check it out

good dinosaur mode = definite, priority purchase.

i actually feel similarly. i had a decent time from Battlefield 3, but I'm in no rush for another round of any of these high profile shooters anymore...

...but with a good dino mode? Fuck yizzity yea, I'll do it

Realistically, what would be a good Dino mode?

Modern weapons and vehicles vs onslaught of dinos (big and small)?

Ancient weapons vs dinos?

Will there be pvp? Is it co-op?

Seems a lot of places they could go with it. Personally, I think any and all of it would be awesome as fuck.

I could maybe buy that if it was a smaller game but this is BF, which will make shittototnotshistons of money. Don't think EA is in a position to not let Dice do what they think is best.

Then again.... EA.

My ideal Dino mode would be a huge level with a set number of extremely tough dinosaurs hunting you down. Each species of dino would have a special attacking specialty and you'd have to figure out strategies with your team to take them out (Raptors would hunt in packs and use team strategies; t-rex use extreme brute force and speed; flying dinos swoop down and take pots at you.). They'll try to pick you off one by one until there's no one left. You can play an Infinite mode, where you'll just get waves of dinosaurs hunting to see if you can get a high score for staying alive, or there'd be Finite Mode, where you have a set wave to get to but at the end of each set of waves you'd fight a sort of 'boss dinosaur.'

Weaponry should be like the typical hunting gear you'd use today, nothing like lasers or anything. Just you, a safari hat, maybe a doublebarrel and some ropes and shit you can use to set up traps. Four different classes with four different specializations each with their own unique hunting strategies and traps.

Maybe the suits are like... "Dinos? Um... how about zombies? We hear zombies are real popular these days. And um you know... the other guys do the zombies. So..."

But then there's this survey where 99% of BF players say they'd buy DLC that was Dinosaurs.

Idk, I have no idea how this crap works or why they bother with surveys at all. I was just sayin', maybe...

Sounds totally awesome. And expensive.

Personally, I'd like to see some vehicles (at least jeeps and shit) in the mix somehow. Since it's Battlefield. But honestly anything with dinosaurs would be so cool. I love the easter eggs in BF3.

Why the hell are they planning the DLC before the game is even finnished and released? Put that shit in the full game!
So after their project finishes, instead of having a plan of what to work on next, you want them to do what, layoff all extra staff until they decide what to do?

Oh absolutely, there'd have to be jeeps. Jeeps are safari-cred gold. Maybe some atvs too. Oh...oh...and an ability to string a net between two jeeps and try to capture a dinosaur between the cars.

oh man, let's make this Evolved1.

Yes definitely! Of course I hear making games requires more than just good ideas...

Shame about that.

Didn't they tease dinos for the entirety of BF3's content release schedule? Or was that just fans constantly asking for it after a couple coy remarks?

The fans made up all that and created screenshots and promotional images about it to make it seem more real and they thought end game was gonna be dinos cos of the title

In all likelihood DICE saw how eager people were to actually have dinos so they might do it for real this time

Why the hell are they planning the DLC before the game is even finnished and released? Put that shit in the full game!

Cos that's how almost every game dev works now. They have the project in mind and a date to have it done by. This just gives them a goal of what to do next rather than waiting and thinking about it. It keeps the ongoing development well... ongoing.

So after their project finishes, instead of having a plan of what to work on next, you want them to do what, layoff all extra staff until they decide what to do?

Include the extra staff in the main staff. Produce more and faster. It blows my mind that this greedy behaviour is viewn positively...

that's not a good thing.

BF3 had excellent DLC support to keep that game alive. BF4 will use the same plan and nothing wrong with that.

BF3 still sucked because they didn't patch relevant shit (at least on console). Why didn't they offer a broad choice of maps, vehicles etc. right from the start? Because they wanted to get the game out as early as possible and want to earn as much as possible.

But considering how many people seem to like DLC, EA, Activision and others won't change shit and keep milking the customer..

of course but they're doing what every other dev is doing now a days.

I would buy the full game just for the dinosaur DLC.

What was the name of that old, oooold PC FPS game that zapped you back in time to a massive forest so you could hunt dinosaurs? That shit was so cash.

Fuck the haters

No way. That map was a poor excuse for a points farm. There was nothing fun, or well designed about a map without any open grounds, based around choke points and with very clear advantages to one side.

It got popular because it's easy to rack up enormous amounts of points in very little time and with no effort at all. It's a shit map and the only reason it works so well is that BF3 is designed around unlocking things through points. Player will just find the easiest way to farm points, and that's Metro.

EA surveys are generally quite accurate, so unless they get negative feedback these will probably happen.

From what I saw of the Dragon Age 3 survey last year, this Battlefield survey and some of the EA Sports surveys I've taken of late, they all seem more focused on how to best communicate features to players.

This Battlefield survey was basically generic to start out with just lots of basic video game habit questions- what platforms do you own, how much do you play each week, how many games have you bought in the past year, did you buy any games new/used. Then maybe narrowing down to giving a specific list of recent games and asking you whether you preordered new, bought new at release, bought new in first week, bought new first month, rented and later bought, played at friend's and bought later or not, bought digitally and so forth.

Then it got more into whether I liked FPS games and what other BF games I had played/owned, what other upcoming games I was looking forward to ( on that list they had Agent, which I haven't heard anything about in ages). Then it went into a bunch of the highlight what you like/dislike about this paragraph that described some feature of the game. Along with asking on a scale of 1-10 what parts of Battlefield I enjoyed most, a couple times bringing up whether I played BF primarily for the MP or SP.

I'm guessing a lot of the things they mention are more or less set and they use these to figure out how to market them.

GameStop gave a statement to one BF4 leak, but the "Commander" one? Nope, never got back to me, so I suspect someone got told off. ;D
Of note (or not maybe), there was no mention of Commander mode in the survey. There were some questions asking whether you enjoyed playing strategically or using teamwork but nothing that really suggested Commander Mode.

Nothing more exhilarating in Metro than rushing up the stairway amidst tons of grenades going off and just running by guys who are too caught up in lobbing grenades than to even shoot at you and making it all the way out of the Subway.

Yeah we've had some people who conduct these kinds of surveys actually pretty much state that in the past.

They basically want to know what is the most popular and then market that primarily, and on a more targeted level know what aspects of the game to market to different types of gamers.

Then anything that proves notably unpopular but is still in the game barely gets mentioned, like the return of Squad Rush and Squad Team Deathmatch in Battlefield 3.

Include the extra staff in the main staff. Produce more and faster. It blows my mind that this greedy behaviour is viewn positively...

I don't think it's as clear cut as that. To implement it into the final game they would have to delay it to get it at the level where it's playable. They've been working on main BF4 for a while now and these DLC ideas come up later in development where tehy can't fit them into the main target deadline.

Also think of it from a business standpoint. Why throw out all your best stuff at once and have people play it all and let the game die faster? It makes far more sense to drip feed the content as it's produced. Sure it's a bit greedy but you'd do the exact same thing in their position

I just saw dinosaurs and I'm posting.

There NEEDS to be more games with dinosaurs. Seriously if dinosaurs are the new Modern Warshooter of next-gen, I'd be happy as a bamboo eating panda.

But no futuristic dinosaurs. Legit dinosaurs (minus the feathers).

Ok so with EA commenting on the survey and how these tend to be accurate, potential new Titan Mode and Co-Op Dino survival is really great news.
