*Sigh* try following the conversation back.

This is what Reiko said and that it what I was responding to.

If your going to join a conversation at least know what I am talking about. I never once disagreed that the car was low poly.

Have you seriously just forgotten what you said a couple of posts ago.
Blurry, out of focus, and compression?

THIS IS COMPRESSION

Compression has a small effect but not that much, well not through Photobucket at least...

Man, T10 utterly failed with shadows in FM4 on some tracks.

Hockenheim dawn has amazing light. Beautiful orange glow from the morning sun. It really does look amazing. Right up until you look at the shadows cast by the cars but mostly by the track. They are completely wrong. They look like they are cast by a midday sun. Even when the sun is completely hidden behind the trees, grandstands or pit complex you are still in full light. Really takes away the immersion :'(

I did follow the conversation back, you're not the one that started it and the conversation doesn't revolve around you. Whether or not you're only commenting on only a part of the point they are bringing up doesn't change the entire point of the discussion of the picture.

I was making a point that the dashboard looks like that because the camera is not focused. So why did you reply to me if you had no intention to talk about the point I made in that post?

Please read the posts I quoted before jumping in. It saves everyone a lot of time.

??? There are different levels of compression lol.

I think the decision to bake in shadows killed the immersion.

I guess that when you mention bad compressing all the time when a ugly picture of GT5 appears is a irony too?
You can't possibly be this thick. You posted a very badly compressed shot. Then I post a very badly compressed shot to show those don't reflect how the games look. It's not that hard to understand. The "true story" didn't give it away that I was joking?...

I think its idiotic post a video where the record volume is below the normal to judge sounds.
If it served its purpose, then it's not idiotic, only you are when you try to make a big deal out of it.

Oh yeah. My mistake about AA. You didn't explained though why did you said that Forza uses different assets.
Because it does.

That's a problem in a lot of games and a huge pet peeve of mine. :/

Is this focused enough for you?

You can't blame the look of the interior textures on compression or focus.

Worst part of the dawn/dusk settings of FM4 are the sun glow on the cars that are white/blue instead of the yellow/orange they should be... That's what completely kills the immersion and shows how lighting isn't consistent with the environment IMO.

That cockpit looks much better than the one in the compressed image so you have just proved my point. Also the camera in the second pic seems like its focused on the car not the dashboard.

Lol the third pic is poorly focused too.

Looks more like the normal mapping isn't popping in.

So it doesn't swap models it just looks that bad? lol, so much for 100k poly models. More like 15k to 20k

lol, it doesn't look any better, it's just a different angle.

Excuses keep on coming.

Read the focusing section.

Your right. I guess the compression really did make it look that much worse.
I can't fire up GT5 now but if you can take a photo of the lambo's interior with the camera focused at the cockpit, the interior will look much better.

Obviously it doesn't add extra poly's when you focus. Again I am not disputing it has low poly's but why the cockpit looks so bad in that horribly compressed pic.

I find it amazing that there are literally thousands of posts in this thread forensically deconstructing and analysing static images from two games built entirely around the concept of motion.

Whether I'm playing GT5 or FM4 the very last thing I give one solitary fuck about is the poly count on an AI car's dashboard at 170mph. I just don't notice shit like that when I'm thoroughly absorbed in a tense and exciting race. And the racing is why I turned up in the first place.

same here, I mean both games look fucking amazing for the hardware they're being run on imo. I just race to have exciting fun :)

Yep. Tracks with alternate time of day in Fm4 use the same shadows for midday and dusk/dawn. They were prebaked once and they only baked the correct shadows for midday..
Cars' shadows are correct though.
Hopefully, next FM uses global dynamic illumination like Horizon, minus the yellow filter :p

Anyway, this thread had become a nice read and sight a dozen pages ago, but it has turned to shit again...

Actually follow the conversations back he is either that much of a fanboy or he is mentally challenged in some way.

I'm not much for political correctness.. if you'd rather mentally challenged.
I'd rather people attack a post not the poster but that's just me I suppose.

I'm not attacking him I'm serious.. I don't understand the conclusions he is coming to with his posts.

I'm legitimately asking... That was not a rhetorical question.

I'm not trying to insult or attack him on any level but I seriously can't understand how he is the only one reaching the conclusions he is reaching. This above comment is just mind boggling it's like he is looking at pictures completely different from everyone else or what I uploaded.

Its been said time and time again that that pic has horrible jpeg compression. Look at the following raws.

I don't understand why you would bring up compression as if it would diminish the bigger issue that was brought up specifically with that pic (low-poly). Wouldn't go as far as labelling you "mentally-challenged", but your response does come across as rather...odd.

But that is only a "preview" view in the "Race Photo" (in-game replay) mode.

Majority of cars in that "preview" mode are not high-poly LOD.

I really do not see the point of posting that specific photo.

Doesn't negate his unusual response though. In fact yours would have been more apt, and wouldn't have caused all that unnecessary back and forth between him and a couple other posters.

The point is to make GT5 look as bad as possible. Same reason why that low-res standard car is posted all the time (even though it's been patched).

Funny thing: I looked at page 100 of this thread, from 2010. Screens and arguments are exactly the same, but the people posting them aren't the same.

Excuse me if this is rather a pretty stupid question, but who is this dude above in the gif? I keep seeing him here on GAF but I haven't got the faintest idea who this bloke is!

Check out the first post in this thread

I'm sure the guys behind Cruis'n had all the tyre data from Pirelli too

I hope the next iterations focus more on track diversity.

I think I prefer Forza's selection of real tracks - just seems a bit more varied overall but I want more.

I'd also like Turn 10 to implement a way for the player to create custom races against the AI. I have no idea why this isn't an option, but if I fancy a 40 lap race on Tsukuba then I should be able to do it!

I'd like online to become a bit more balanced also, because at present it feels like every race is just about who has the best tune. This is fine for those who are into that sort of thing, but for a player looking to jump in it's a real hurdle.

There is the cycled production hopper but that needs to be randomised a bit and it seems fairly empty compared to other modes.

I can't agree with you more on the cycled production hopper, it's the best one and no one is ever using it and it's on a non-random car and track cycle.

You can create custom races with AI, create a private lobby and add AI and you can setup the options how you want and race against them, you can even specifically choose the cars they use.

The first image is using a higher detail model, the other two images are not looking at the same area.
