If you thought Diablo 3's economy was bad before [Duping exploit, trillions of gold]

I'm glad I got my money back for the game, but god damn I wish I didnt waste my time with this and waited for the ps4 version

I had a lot of fun with Diablo 3. I've never bought anything from the RMAH.

This is where I am now. Between 2 characters, I've put in well over 100 hours recently. I have occasionally bought some gear from the AH, but never gems. I make those myself. I think the game is great, and look forward to playing it again on console someday. Kinda hard for me to label any game I've put 50+ hours into 'bad'. I will say that when I reached Inferno difficulty, I understood most of the complaints about the game and the AH.

they need a roll back to 2001 when they first thought of making this game. I can only imagine that some people on the team fought tooth and nail against this thing but the powers that be could only see the $$$ from the micro transactions.

Best -$250 I ever spent.

So true and so sad that my most anticipated game of the forever netted me more cash than actual enjoyment. It was only a matter of time before something as big as this happened.

Not surprising it is still a mess. I wrote Blizzard off a while ago, but the PS3 version still irks me. I'm a Diablo fanboy and have a PS3/Vita and would still never buy that. It's salt in the wounds of the loyal PC crowd.

It would have been interesting to see what the original Blizzard North version of D3 would have been like. From the screenshots it looks like you were in "heaven" at some point just like what we got.

Or even if Blizzard never fucked up during D3 development and changed so much shit *cough*activision*cough*

Todays patch allows you to sell more gold on the auction house, this means you can sell over 4294967296 gold.

This causes a overflow.

So gems were suddenly up for less than they were worth and people used that to quickly rake in a ton of money? That sounds like something Blizzard would unintentionally stumble themselves into.

If I'm misunderstanding what is happening, it's due to liquor

Pretty much. I finished Inferno on a couple of characters, made a killing on the RMAH, and found that there was nothing left to do in the game.

Can someone explain the issues with the RMAH like I'm 5?

Too bad they can't punish those who have withdrawn the cash from their paypal accounts.

Well, that scenario might have not happened yet. There's a waiting time before they send you the cash after you sell something. It is usually a few days so that money may have not left Blizzard's system just yet, but that really depends how their automatic system works.

In any case, they have to deal with it now and potentially hundreds of thousands of transactions happened, many including real money and paypal accounts they'll have to sort out.

I love how this error would have been caught in the PTR except you can't test the RMAH in the PTR for obvious reasons.

The RMAH should just never have existed.

This mostly makes me sad because the game-related content of the patch that hit today is makes a lot of great changes and improvements, and everyone has been super happy about that part of it until this happened lol.

Also PVP was added a patch or two ago, unless Arena specifically refers to something else?

The new issue or the general issues?

The new issue that warranted this thread was that by putting up gold for real money you can actually dupe (double) your gold by just taking it off the RMAH. It's a glitch and will be fixed but the damage has been done already... economy is in a messed up state.

The problem with RMAH in general is that it by passes the need to actually play the game to acquire top gear which is the point of the whole game. You can flip stuff on the AH and get a lot of gold. That is essentially what people are doing right now with gem because they are so inflated. Plus RMAH devalues loot so hard because of their availability and combined with poor itemization (variety in stats on items and their usefulness) makes for a situation where only top tier items sell for billions but mid tier items sell for gold value that is not worth the AH slot to put it up for.

Can't wait for the superior PS3 version.

Fuckin PC version was easily my biggest disappointment of 2012.

If you would have told me two years ago that when Diablo 3 is released, I would only play it for a month and never want to touch it again....I would have laughed in your face.

It's kind of like how they didn't implement the gold selling portion of the RMAH right away, which kept people from comparing anything to the price of gold (therefore its actual fair value) and allowed people like me to put up hot fucking garbage on the RMAH and sell it for $50+, and slightly better stuff for $100+, to say nothing of the good stuff that went for the full $250.

It's depressing when the definitive version will probably be on consoles.

RMAH seriously sucked a lot of the fun out of this game because of the adjusted drop rates. At least I made my money back with quite a bit on top.

I want to play and enjoy the new patch, but I don't want to get my progress rolled back, is it safe?

Is it getting a completely new storyline? Actual non-generic loot?

At least its going to be balanced around not having the stupid auction house. Progress.

A friend keeps telling me how much money he got by playing the game and selling stuff. Just insane amounts.

it almost made me want to suffer through that launch

Is there still a time delay between when an RMAH sale happens and when the money actually hits paypal? It seems like they could rollback to before the patch and fix this without any real money being lost, right?

Or am I mistaken?

Hit and miss. Some times it is instant, sometimes there is a processing time.

What would you do about those people who have 368 trillion gold?

This is a working theory, and is possibly why there is a 2-3 day (?) delay between when you buy or sell something and you actually get the money or item, but I don't think anyone knows for sure.

If you go on Twitch right now and check out the Diablo streams, you'll see gold giveaways and people buying tons of stuff with their billions of gold.

Yep. Best -$1100 I ever spent. Game was a train wreck, although I loved the skill system, animations and the impact skills made when they hit. Played with my friend up until he abandoned me on inferno, then quit after getting inferno Diablo kill with my wizard. The AH was potentially more fun than the game when real money was involved, though I made all mine selling gold to some sucker before the RMAH went up and then selling all my gear right as it did. Dupes were pretty rampant in D2, I wonder if they'll actually do anything here?

Is D3 worth getting if I have T2? With all this DRM nonsense, I can't help but to think the gameplay must simply be incredible.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but is it so hard to just *not* use the AH/RMAH, and not care that others do?

Are people who can do that, freaks of nature?

(And don't tell me you *need* the AH or RMAH to play the game, have fun, and progress - because we'd both know you're lying).

You did when I played, past a certain point. It might be different now.

You dont understand that the game was BALANCED around the idea of the AH and the RMAH, which fundamentally changed the game for everyone not only for those that do *not* use it.
Point still stands, if the the game didnt have any auction houses drops would be different.

You do at a certain point though. Otherwise it is almost impossible to get the loot you need to keep up because the itemization almost seems like it is built to send you to the AH.
