Xbox: A Nostalgia Thread

Mad_Dash_Racing_Coverart.png

Anyone else play this? Apparently it was trash, but I remember renting it ALL THE TIME when I was younger. I was a fan of Sonic R, so that might be it. We will ever see another anthropomorphic foot racer? No, lol.

Also I remember when Blinx looked like next level shit, goddamn.

Pretty sure there was some kind of demo for Mad Dash. I used to love playing it with my sister way back in the day.

I remember the day when that very first video for Xbox came out. I was RIDICULOUSLY excited for it. I remember before that video of the giant robot, I was watching tons and tons of videos about the PS2 and I was gungho on getting one. That video came out and changed my mind instantly. I was pretty young so it didn't take much but damn.

Also, god damn this thread. That feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realize it has been 12 years. 12 YEARS! Almost half my life. Just man... I wish I could rewind time back to the days of the summer after Morrowind came out... It was particularly rainy that summer, and the shear level of atmosphere I remember while playing Morrowind when it was raining in game and outside... oh my god. I used to pop the windows open while it rained (it was pretty gentle rain for the most part) and enjoy the breeze while playing it. Pretty sure I'd give anything to go back to those days. Those days when I truly enjoyed games. Nowadays I can't even bring myself to play them.

Back then I had no money and very few games. Nowadays, I still have not very much money (yay student) but I have a TON of games and no will to play them.

Great thread. Xbox was one of my favorite consoles of all time. I loved it. Weird that now I have no interest at all in the Xbox brand and don't like my 360 whatsoever. I'll always have a soft spot for that first Xbox, though. So good.

Same here. Xbox as a whole lost it's touch around 2009.

Microsoft putting services like Netflix behind a paywall was the final nail in the coffin for me. That is probably the final thing where I finally thought that MS had gone off the deep end and was no longer even trying to be fair to the consumer.

This is an amazing thread and i bought both on launch, Can't wait for may 21st.

They did many things right until KINECT.

I will just pretend KINECT does not exist

I liked that game "Whacked!" . it was a tv show themed fighting game. was pretty decent and fun online

I think the Xbox being a bunch of PC parts cobbled together allowed it to be the most moddable console out there and has a huge community and emulation scene. It also spawned one of the best multimedia programs out there XBMC which is used on PC by many people. XBMC was incredible for its time. I used it to stream a picture slideshow with background music through my Navy Cruiser's television system, showing all the random pictures taken by everyone during the previous deployment, with slow panning and zooming effects with background music which XBMC did with no issues. I also used it to create a video playlist of all Family Guy episodes and it had a "random" option to play episodes off the list in a random order, which I used to make a "Family Guy Marathon Weekend" on the ship.

It was my first HTPC and I still have one sitting in my Quasicade arcade cabinet with over 10,000 games you can play from Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 all the way through PS1 and N64 (not to mention actual Xbox games).

I don't think I will ever see a more capable home console in my lifetime than a fully modded Xbox 1.

Oh, awesome OP! I love my original Xbox. It's still going strong. I had it modded for awhile but then I had a whole situation to where it isn't now.

I still play Phantom Dust from time to time. Also just bough Marvel vs. Capcom 2! So happy to finally own it.

That's why it sucks that we never got a second game. A game with a lot more polish with the elements of the first expanded could have been mindblowing.

Absolutely. Great story, game play, etc all let down by some of the worse bugs I've encountered in a game since Morrowind on OG Xbox.

I never played the exclusive Xbox wrestling games, but were they any good? I'm talking about WWF Raw in particular.

I was all about Smackdown at the time and to some extent No mercy on the N64 was still being played but never knew how the Xbox wrestling games were. I remember the graphics looking really nice at the time.

Is the official Xbox magazine still around? I remember when they used to come with demo discs. I played the Ninja gaiden demo so many times. So awesome to be able to try out new games every month.

I remember seeing one of the first Xbox 360/PS3 games ever being shown, Dark Sector, on one of this discs for the OG Xbox. It was like mind-blowing to see this allegedly next-gen game in motion, even though it was only in SD because of the Xbox's capabilities.

Amazing op, dem feels. Was a PlayStation dude no doubt, but the Xbox was no joke. Stuff like Splinter cell was the real deal back then. Halo ce was a damn breakthrough. Never played anything like that before. Wasn't much of a shooter fan. You give credit where it's due though. That game was special.

Halo 2 is probably my least favorite Halo, but thinking back on it...it was still such an awesome game. I think I don't like it as much as others because I didn't have Live until the 360.

I enjoyed Raw 2, especially the TLC matches.

The ladders would come out randomly when you went for them under the ring. Most times you get 2-3 per match. This one time we managed to get 7, that was one epic match.

Still not anywhere near as good as No Mercy though. Or any of the N64 ones for that matter.

Also just went to see some YT footage, the game still looks fairly good. I know I was impressed back at release, apart from the terrible walking animation.

God damn Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War was fucking fantastic. It's a damn shame that we haven't got a game like that since.

Fuse actually reminds me of Brute Force, minus the lizard dude. I remember enjoying Brute Force co-op with my brother but I haven't gone back to it because I know it won't be so hot, haha.

Dang, Burnout 3: Takedown. My favourite Burnout and maybe even my favourite racer. Played it recently and it still looks great. I miss playing it on XBL. :(

Added a few more for ninja, wrasslin, and golf fans.

you should somehow mark out the ones taken, I'm sure we will have many more being used closer to the event.

People are fickle with their avatars. Dude that snagged the Riddick one already switched to Courage, Mechassault to KotOR2, etc. I imagine during the Durango reveal shitstorm it'll be too hard to keep track of.

Made mine!

Very nice.

I've been taking down my game collection and dusting them and cleaning them and I snapped a pic for the SNES collectors thread so I decided to do the same for this thread.

Here's my Xbox game collection

EDIT: Now that I see the picture above it's bugging me that I didn't have them in some kind of order. I'm OCD like that haha

Pre-Halo 2 Xbox Live was a special time. I played a ton of different games, Crimson Skies, Counter-Strike, Pandora Tomorrow, RTCW, Soldier of Fortune 2, were all a blast.

I actually liked Counter-Strike a lot, it was a different pace because the same precision accuracy wasn't there like on PC, so fights lasted a little longer and you could come back in a lot of fights as well. Also, when someone was dominating with AWP it was really special. Host was pretty dominant in that game though, host AK was unstoppable in the hands of a good player.

My favorite 360 game is by far Shadowrun, I had similar experiences playing it as I did in the Pre-H2 days. Summer 07 where Shadowrun was at its peak was sublime. I kept playing it for years after that, but that Summer was especially memorable.

ghost recon, ghost recon island thunder, ghost recon 2, ghost recon 2: summit strike.

So many awesome memories. I was unstoppable at ghost recon 2 and summit strike. Would take on entire clans by myself in lms and win lol.

Is Island Thunder on PC? I know the original is and if you can run it getting that version over the X-box version now a days for better BC support seems worth doing?

y'all should be ashamed
Does anyone remember Whacked? First XBL game if I recall. I was there day one. It was actually a lot of fun.
