Capcom: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies hitting the West [Digital Only Confirmed]

So a downloadable version of AA5 would be acceptable if it was $7.99?

Well to me kinda. Here's why... I consider digital downloads to just be throw away content of little to no value. I never want my games to feel like they have no value. I want AA to succeed, and cutting off your fanbase as seen in this thread is a death sentence from paying customers.

My backlog is mostly digital PSN (Plus too) games that I just kind of forget about and do not have an attachment value to me.

Same with my music, movies, books, etc.. When you come to my place, see & browse my libraries of media it tells a story. I like the tactile feel, the physical browsing. It triggers memories, I have a photographic memory so it's even better.

Sure I've purchased some digital DLC, a Steam account of 20 titles, but any of those $5-$10 at most. I just consider them like a rental that I will lose.

I know I'll probably loose this battle eventually. Then that's when I reach back into my collection of NES to present discs & cartridges and close my wallet.

Quick example that just happened:

My Wii just died. Nintendo wants to charge me $75 to fix it (or maybe send me a new one with my content transferred over). I can buy a used Wii for much, much less than $75, but then I lose the few things I purchased before I knew that Nintendo's service was garbage compared to literally every other DD provider in existence. I believe it's N64 Sin and Punishment, the Genesis Treasure games and Punch-Out!!

What should I do? Hide it and file a police report? It's so easy!

I guess my only real options are to pony up the cash or re-purchase my old games, which come out to roughly the same =/

Could someone explain to me why Atlus is able to release virtues last reward physically on both the vita and 3ds but Capcom can't for this? Virtues last reward has alot of voice acting so would be harder to localise. Atlus is also a much smaller company and Ace attorney would have a larger fan base. Is Capcom just incompetent or am I missing something?

Also I have a U.S 3DS but live in Australia. Will I experience any hurdles trying to download this?

Fixed. And it's because Aksys is a smaller publisher, so the sales that something like VLR makes are pretty much to be expected whereas a bigger company like Capcom has to turn a profit with everything they do, otherwise they will drop it completely.

Oh yeah apologies to Aksys but my point still stands. Don't see how Aksys can manage to turn a profit under those circumstances but Capcom struggles.

Both can turn profit from those circumstances. Capcom, however, is a much larger company than Aksys. It's now a matter of whether Capcom will turn enough profit for a retail version to be a good investment or whether they invest their resources in other place.

It might also be because Capcom is really struggling, and hence the company is focusing on the strategy many other big firms are applying: either AAA games or smartphone / social (i.e. really cheap) games. Since Ace Attorney is pretty popular in Japan, there can be seen as an AAA game (the last main entry sold well above 500k units there), but in the West it is a niche series so they're minimizing the efforts, while still releasing.

It's also a business strategy. Sven on Capcom Unity I think is trying to say that the game will have an aggressive price. Of course I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, and it would be disappointing.
Another important thing is that Phoenix Wright is a game that many people feel to trade in once they finish it ( :( ) and this will basically kill the used market.

If it is an "aggressive strategy," I wonder if they'll make the first case free and charge for the others? They did that with Ghost Trick right?

So, if I were to get this, would it be necessary to play the previous games? It'll be my first game in the series.

You should play at least Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (Ace Attorney 4), because that's the direct prequel. However you should also play the first three games to get to know Phoenix and because they're great games.

Play the first 3 games (the ones with Phoenix Wright in the name). Apollo Justice is the followup for those games and a prequel to this game, but was received with mixed reviews by the fans. the Miles Edgeworth game is a spinoff, so you can skip it if you want. If you wait a little bit, iOS devices are getting a "HD" port of the game.

Thirties? She should be 27 or something like that.

I keep thinking that more time has passed in between the original trilogy and AJ.

Alright, I'll try to hunt those games down then. Honestly always had a curiosity to try them, but never got a DS.

They should be pretty cheap now I hope.

Looking at Amazon, theyre all $20 except for Justice for All which is $40.

Justice for All is like the weakest title imo.

The original three are also available on WiiWare if you're having trouble. That's how I got into the series.

Reading the first page of this thread, I feel like I'm living in another universe.

What's the second best selling?

I don't quite remember... it's buried in some past NPD thread. I think it was either Kingdom Hearts or Super Street Fighter IV 3D (at least both were in the list and SSFIV3D was high on it).

Ah, yeah, this is true.

@M3d10n: Actually, there have been several TP titles in US that did/are doing well, not just Angry Birds. And, as happened with GBA and DS, these titles are also selling over time (even if obviously not in the same way as on DS). The latest example? Monster Hunter 3U. But it's also true that, at the same time, there have been some titles flopping, with Castlevania as latest example.

My point is that the ceiling for 3rd party 3DS sales in NA is low. Yes, we have much "nichier" titles getting physical releases and AA5 *is* somewhat a niche game, but Capcom is not a niche publisher and that makes a difference in how they handle their releases.

For a good example, just look at Atlus, who is happily releasing their SMT games in the US, and compare them to Square Enix who isn't all that happy with KH NA sales and refused to release their best game on the system until Nintendo stepped in.

Looking at the australian prices it seems like I would be lucky to come across those prices. O_O

Argh, I would actually really want capcom to put the previous phoenix wright games on eshop, ironically enough.

If you have iOS/Android, it might be cheaper to play the original trilogy on that come July (assuming it's not pushed back again.) The first game is free on that app with the other 2 being unlocked via IAP.

Apollo Justice does need to be played though and for sure on the DS. I'd prefer the DS for all 4 games, but if the phone version comes out significantly cheaper, I'd grab them that way.

Don't forget Investigations. Despite what some may say, it is a very worthwhile entry in the series.

anyways, can you guys recommend me a nice (and cheap) SD card and also, what is the meaning of the classes they have? and which is the best way to transfer the contents from my previous SD card to a new one? thanks :p

The higher the class number, the faster the card. Just use a computer to copy the contents over.

Also I have a U.S 3DS but live in Australia. Will I experience any hurdles trying to download this?

Switch to the Canada eShop and use your credit/debit card (since the US one won't accept non-US cards).

Oh, it's fantastic. Just not something that needs to be played to build up to the story in this one.

Although it's worth playing for the eventual localisation of AAI2. Not sure if I should laugh or cry after writing that.

Sweet they animated Athena's boobs.

Playing the demo right now. Her necklace changes color following her emotions, nice touch. Music is nice too. Game seems to play exactly the same.
