Soo.... For example, Half-Life 2 has 8 cards in total. You can only get 4 cards max. How are you supposed to collect all 8 cards? You'll never end up with 8 cards unless you buy the other 4 from the marketplace right? If you just trade the 4 you have, you'll end up with 4 cards again.

Unless they reset the drops, which right now, doesn't seem to be happening soon.

Am I understanding this right?

My understanding is: This is thought out as a social thing. You should trade for you missing cards with cards from another game. You can pay to get everything, but it's not meant for that. A few cards for each series and there will be many series, if this is a success. So my guess is: 3 cards of series 1 and 5 of series 2 will also be able to craft a badge.

It totally is meant for using the auction house. Its the only purpose for all of it.

No drop-reset? Well... thats suck. :/

Well it makes sense for Valve, because they'll make boatloads of money through the auction house with this, but I agree, I'd prefer lower item drops or rarity differences, but being able to collect them myself or with 1-2 friends.

perhaps - but they encourage the trading aspect too. To be able to see who in your friends-list has the cards you're looking for is only meant for trading.

That is true.

Yeah. A drop reset after crafting would be the best.

Or maybe a drop reset after two or three days after you crafted a badge. Now i can only get three Don't Starve cards, buy the other two, crafting a badge and then... i need to buy the next five cards for the second badge or i trade with the (free) cards from the other games but at some point i just need to buy cards, cause i can't get new cards or can't trade cards, cause i don't have one.

Somewhere along the line, series 2 will happen. That's the reset.

How do you mean bugged? You can't get cards without having bought something in DOTA 2.

Yeah, but users who purchased something in Dota 2 after the Steam Card beta release didn't receive cards anyway (bugged), and Valve was going to fix it.
I'm in "Introduction" now and still haven't received any cards.

Just to confirm, anything? Like, the cheapest item?

Yes, anything should be good enough, I bought a name tag and put it on market right after.

Buying a crate for 0,03 Cents did not put TF2 into the badge progress screen and no cards dropped in 45~minutes of idling.

It doesn't work when you buy from Market, you have to buy it in the game's own store (Mann Co Store for TF2).

Edit: *beaten*
Edit2: Is there an in-game store for dota2 or does it use dota2.com/store website?

I read that you need to pay $9 worth of stuff in the in game market to get card drops, so you're better off buying a set.

I do think they should add drop resets after crafting though, or by some other criteria.

Ugh this will be the death of me. I have always had an underlying urge to collect things, I like levelling up, I like random opens (craft) and I like having shiny badges.

It's like Valve examines my brain and hatched a plan to bankrupt me :( did anyone find my Frozen Synapse offer enticing?

Bought a .49 cent item from in game Dota shop and still didn't get card listing in profile, just fair warning (might be bugged, who knows)
Bought a 0,37€ weapon for TF2 and got the badge progress instantly, one card dropped in ~30 minutes at the moment.

Yes the FAQ said you have to spend $9 to get a SINGLE card!

What? Really? Bummer. Maybe that explains why Dota 2 isn't even showing up on my badges screen.

I don't remember seeing that when I looked at the faq earlier and the cached version I can see here at work doesn't mention it either. Must've added that recently.

That's only for additional cards to the regular 4-5 card drop.
So, if you reached the card drop limit, you can get one more card by purchasing something for $9+
Badge screen should show up anyway, haven't for me either though, so it's bugged (have been since earlier).

Oh. That's actually worse haha. Looks like mine's just bugged for now then.

What I find funniest about this current 'economy' is the fact that card prices are on a gradual, constant decline, due to everyone trying to one up the low price every now and then.

I wonder when prices will hit crate level. Or will they eventually get rarer and shoot up? Not for awhile I'm guessing.

Not receiving game card drops in Dota 2 or Team Fortress 2
Because Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 are free to play games, they use a slightly different mechanism for dropping cards.
In order to receive card drops for these games, you must have made an in-game purchase at some point (or, in the case of Team Fortress 2, owned the game prior to the Free to Play release).
There is more info in the FAQ. You can see how many card drops you have remaining on your badges page.
UPDATE: this does not seem to be granting drops properly right now (but we are tracking purchases). Hopefully we can resolve the issue by tomorrow.

Word to the wise if you are trying to level up quick, it seems like regardless of the XP reward, you only go up ONE level per time, XP doesn't seem to carry over.

I just got my fourth TF2 badge and only went up one level :/
