Yakuza 1+2 HD for Wii U announced

It wouldn't be like PS3 to Wii, it would be easier to port down too.

Devs already have problems "up-porting" to Wii U from PS3/360.

I wouldn't want to imagine downporting to Wii U from PS4, given that Yakuza traditionally relies heavily on large storage and harddrive use, and I figure Nagoshi will go HAM on dat 8GB GDDR5.

Yes, I know the Wii U has 25GB discs and internal storage, but eh.

How would Nintendo "lose some reputation" in that scenario? They'd be bringing over a game we didn't get?

Hurting their reputation as a family-friendly platform, maybe? I'm not sure what the guy meant...

Man, bringing this overseas would've been a "megaton" announcement for me. I've been wanting to get into the Yakuza games for a while. It's part of why I bought a PS3 (outside of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut). But I want to start with the first two games, and Yakuza 2 is kind of hard to find. Then I learned about the HD collection on PS3, but no Western release was a bummer. Sucks that the Wii U version is seemingly still Japan-exclusive.

I see that someone still thinks that the third party "problems" in doing PS360U multi-games are related to the Wii U HW...

no hd 1 & 2 on ps3 for usa release? wow. way to crap all over the fans.

I seriously doubt it is, unless it was said that in the Japanese Direct. Which I didn't watch. All the previous games are on Sony consoles, so it would be odd if so.

I'm talking about is this HD set for Wii U only.

When I saw that the JP direct would be ten minutes longer I figured it'd be some app junk I wouldn't really care about. This sucks.

It released on PS3 last year.

They're probably testing the waters with this before they look at bringing over the other installments.

This. I think Sega have always wanted to expand the series to other consoles but during the last and current gen, they haven't really had much choice in being able to put it anywhere other than on a PS console.

But at the same time releasing the HD collection is a bit of a strange move because it didn't do all that well on the PS3... where all the fans are, of course, anyways (though admittedly they will have all played it back on the PS2 which did sell really well). And late ports never do well. So I'm not sure how Sega is going to feel about it when the game doesn't sell that well. I don't know it's an odd one but you gotta start somewhere I suppose.

I guess their hope is it finds a base on the WiiU if they do decide to release the next game in the series, but when it's on PS4 as well, it will be more work and effort involved in getting a down port to the WiiU and adding the extra control options. Which might not be viable if the userbase sticks to it mainly on PlayStation.

Oh well, I wonder if this improves the Collection's chances of releasing overseas?
I doubt it. Even if Nintendo takes on the publishing and marketing, Sega would likely still have to set a side resources to handle the localization internally. And given that it's a niche franchise in the west on it's established platform, I can't imagine it would make any impact on the Wii U. It'd be pure charity for the few fans dedicated enough to buy a console for it.

Nintendo want the hardcore crowd? Why don't they start by bringing this overseas?
And it's a lazy endeavour from Sega, but a beginning...

Yakuza is a fan based game. You want sales? Talk to the fans. But if you bring it to the console the fans dont have... and then a console that is struggling... then you will may lose some money. But enough of that.

Yes they were really good.

Or it could bring new fans to the franchise who never owned a Sony console (there probably aren't many, but still).

Any Yakuza news is great news.

They are bringing over a game to a console the fans of the series may not own?
What, all 20-50k of them?

The core Nintendo base seems generally more receptive to Japanese games, and exclusives in particular. Games that are big in Japan but don't seem to make a dent over here, like Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter or Tales, have all managed their highest western sales on Nintendo platforms by making smart deals and positioning on those systems. Who knows, maybe Yakuza can join that short list?

Lol I'm sorry but did you seriously suggest that the 58k people that got the HD collection is the fanbase? Try 500-600k which I believe is what the 5 LTD is

Someone should have told Iwata the game has already been released on PS3 last year. Once he spent 10 minutes demonstrating a half year old port like it was something special, I knew that this would become kind of a sad Direct. :S

The Sonic partnership is quite interesting, though.

Oh, I guess it wasn't released in the US? The 1&2 HD PS3 version? Don't see it on Amazon.

No English release yet for PS3.
...still if the English release is forthcoming, for both systems, it's gonna be great for more people to experience the manliness that is Kiryu =)
PREACH IT IRISH!

Would be a meltdown if next yakuza is Wii U exclusive. Shown atE3 for next year..just a glimpse
It would really depend on Nintendo's willingness to localize it. If Sega don't localize Y5 on PS3, they're even less likely to localize a WiiU Yakuza.

Edit: the best case scenario for everyone is obviously that going multi-plat would make western releases viable for every platform.

Wow I can't see this selling much at all. Anyone who is into the Yakuza series has already bought a PS3 to play 3,4,5 and has had the chance to buy the 1+2 collection on PS3 for a while now.

Sega + Nintendo need to make a new F-Zero already.

Gotta love how Iwata prefaced the discussion with, "I didn't bring Nagoshi here today to talk about a new F-Zero."

Really giving your customers what they want, Nintendo.
