The Last of Us: New Previews

God. I just want to hang out there. Go there on vacation.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

As you go through the game, you get to update your skills, you can get better at riding a bike, driving, piloting a plane, etc. A lot of people forget that, but that was part of what made GTA:SA so awesome. I hope this upgrade in TLOU is similar to that and that they have that in GTAV come to think of it.

That's the control-tightening I mean, but San Andreas comes with the notification of your increase in ability :)

About the multiplayer
The aspect of The Last of Us we'd have liked to seen was the game's multiplayer mode. We haven't seen a second of it to date, despite the fact that the game is out in less than a month. Straley and Druckmann wouldn't explain why Naughty Dog was holding the reveal of the game's online multiplayer until the last minute, but both seemed excited to finally reveal it. The lack of exposure seemed more grounded in helping to guard an interesting secret, rather than apprehension about how it would be received, since Straley and Druckmann stressed that they wanted people to see more of the single-player campaign before they exposed the game's multiplayer component.

This looks like what Tomb Raider 2013 should have been. And funny enough is a Naughty Dog game, the people behind the Dude Raider series XD

This is more of what I think Resident Evil should have been...

Things i've seen are enough to warrant a purchase, but the game will still have many flaws and questionable design choices (especially within the current wave of ludonarrative dissonance awareness). Hopefully, ND has spent the last few weeks bringing it more up to date.

I wish I could have seen the bow in action.

Should make for a good stealth weapon.

Everything about this game reminds me of RE4.

I mean... a little maybe.

Idk, I'm not the huge RE4 fan like a lot of gaf and honestly what I see in TLoU is an organic and fluid feel to movement and control that RE games could only dream of. It's not without similarities, but for my money, I'm kinda more excited about how it's different.

But I think I get what you're saying...

Are you sure? I saw the video and didn't notice any spoilers.

LOL, I just got off watching it and the only bits I remember is how he was inspired to make the music. Considering that there is a spoiler, I did not notice it but it is an incredible oversight for SONY to do this.

Speaking of which, I notice the previews are pretty scarce. Heck, Destructoid JUST got theirs up and I really want to see what Rev3 games & Gamespot and other major media outlets' impressions.

Pretty sparce? It seems like every gaming media outlet on the planet received the preview code. If GameSpot and Rev3 don't have theirs up yet, it's probably their own fault.

That is not a real spoiler. We know that there will be some heartbreaking moments in the game with sad music. This is public knowledge, Druckmann tweeted multiple times about it and says it in every interview.
Everyone should expect it in a game about Zombies anyway...

It does seem quite similar in that way... even though RE4 was a mostly solitary romp.

Where Ashley was kinda there :p

Speaking of exploring not only do you have to explore for supplies but health upgrades and aiming upgrades as well.
I think they were trying to show that Joel is getting better at various things over time.

Well there's RE4, you know, that little game of whom most games (action/adventures ones) aspire to be. XD

That was the last great advance in action games. But i do agree that RE should get back to it's roots retaining similar mechanic to RE4.
Bioshock infinite's elizebeth is going to look like a terrible AI companion after we experience ellie.
RE keeps coming back into the conversation. Do you remember Ashley? First time an scort mission was well executed.

I hope Sony's brains are working an both Last of Us and the Last Guardian (if its exists) quickly appear as enhanced PS4 games.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Cyberia posted this from the psblogcast
What I can tell you right now is that, take all these things we’ve been talking about – this pressure to survive, this high lethality, this limited resources, this crafting, these upgrades – and now go head-to-head with somebody else. So that spirit that we’ve captured in the single player, you’re gonna feel it, you’re gonna really feel that in the multiplayer. And that’s really all I can say right now.

Contextual out-of-cutscene chatter is perhaps the single most important change in direction that cinematic linear games need to take and TLoU makes a big commitment in this field and I hope it catches up in a more mainstream fashion.

The biggest step in that direction was taken by Uncharted 2 imo. I hope tlou refines it.

Listening to Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson banter is like having vanilla ice cream and honey poured directly into my ears.

Yes but, U2 and U3 used it for tactical and humourous purposes whereas TLoU looks deliver a lot of story (emotional content) via these out of cutscenes moments. Ellie's scripted path finding also lends to this experience showing inquisitiveness and independence. In essence it's like playing WRPGs in certain regards and one of the closer matches would Half Life 2.

If I had to guess, I'd say it may be like Dark/Demon's Souls like system where the MP somehow ties to SP (something I made a thread about pertaining to KZSF).

Maybe the multiplayer component is a rip off of Day Z but in a smaller scale.

This is quite common these days in game where the player has a companion. Maybe you just like the quality of the writing a lot in this game.

I'm almost 100% sure that SP and MP are not connected in any way.

I would have to agree with Tagg9. There are too many scripted events in the single player of games like this to allow anything of the sort. What happens when Ellie is flipping through records and some asshat comes trying to murder everyone? Not happening.

Maybe the multiplayer component is a rip off of Day Z but in a smaller scale.

I'm also going to have to point out that this is entirely not plausible either. Both of these theories have been thrown about and they just lack any rationality. This game is not open world whatsoever so I don't see the multiplayer maps differentiating themselves from the single player in such an extreme way. Quite frankly anything that would remotely resemble a Day Z multiplayer model would have to be on quite a large scale to be successful from a design perspective.

Alright I'm preordering. Seems like hype is lifting off and they have been teasing us with MP for far too long.

I just wanted more info on it but if it is as revolutionary and they have kept it a secret for this long, its probably different enough from Uncharted that makes it worth purchasing.

Hoping they deliver on it.
