Sony E3 press conference; June 10th 6PM PT/9PM ET

I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure Kaz confirmed there would be used games allowed on PS4.

Thing is Used Games are allowed on Xbox One as well, but you kinda have to pay to access them, more down.

They already stated their position.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514684

Although stating it again on their E3 conference would be great.

Yes, I am aware of that and I was totally excited, till the Xbox One that is.

Let's look at it this way, Sony makes Uncharted 4, you sell it, someone else gets it, and plays it no problem, but a 3rd party publisher doesn't want that, so they include a Serial Key with the game -much like Online Pass for MP- you buy the game and redeem the key to play the game, then once you are done, you sell it, someone buys it, but when he tries to play he can't, or can play for a short time session, he needs to buy a new Serial Key from the PSN. (and that money goes to the publisher)

This is my fear, that publisher may control how this works, especially since Sony said regarding Always Online that it is up to the developer (if I recall correctly that is), so if they leave this matter to the publishers, I see every last one of them jumping on it, just like how they jumped on the whole online pass, but this time they are crippling the whole game in the process.

That's a kazalanche.

Lots of pepole are going to want Sony to confirm as soon as possible. They really can just wait for E3 and let MS sweat about it. Sony's conference is later in the day than MS; just wait till then.

True. But it speaks volumes to the two very different philosophy's that the companies are taking. It seems like everyone expected this to be a Jack Johnson vs John Jackson battle.

Microsoft seems to have created an American media box.

Sony and Nintendo have both made gaming machines, yet the kind of services they provide seem to be a vast difference between the two

Even though the PS4 and XBO are similar in hardware, the software features and network applications seem to be more diverse based on the difference in philosophy's that the big two are following.

While I'm bummed out about the DRM Treating consumers like criminals approach of the Xbox One, its nice to see gaming become more diverse in its offerings as it goes on.

You know what they say about first impression?

I expect they will treat E3 as a way to sell the whole box to americans, the one market that really left Sony out to dry this gen, they need to make a impression there, and E3 is the best place to do it, so i expect some talk about features and TV sadly

For TGS they will hopefully have more Japanese centered games and services that they will care about

They do not need to worry about Europe at all i feel.

I do not think Sony will be able to keep this momentum going. They are holding back something that could devastate its audience and if I have to guess then I reckon that online play will become a premium feature. MS made far too much money on it and Im sure Sony took notice.

So Nintendo's publishing rights encompass all the games of the series? Including the ones that were exclusive to PS platforms?

I had no idea it worked like that. :(

No it doesn't. However, the last main DQ game on a PS platform was DQVIII in 2004. The last DQ spin off on a PS platform was a DQVIII spin off in 2006. Everything else has been exclusive to Nintendo.

She just means Sony will have to do something out of the ordinary to get the franchise back on the PS ecosystem. The PSP sold near 20 million and PS3 sold near 10 million in Japan and there wasn't even a DQ spin off on it.

Well thanks Kagari for the info. Now I'm gonna cry myself to sleep tonight lol ;-). But there might still be a chance for it to appear as PS2 classic on PSN, right? Just like Fatal Frame 1+2 did even when they went to Nintendo?

Chances are slim. DQVII did not get a PS1 classic release on PSN even though most other Square and Enix franchises from that era did. Furthermore, instead of releasing a PS2 classic for $9.99, SE would rather HD port it and charge Y3999 like they are doing with FFX/X2

Honestly, I don't see it being much of a focus during the conference. Yes you can watch Netflix and rent movies and whatever but that's all secondary stuff and not worth stage time.

I don't think Sony has to spend a lot of time breaking down the entertainment features at all.

Just a single slide showing everyone's favorite streaming services. Netflix, Hulu, it's all there. Boom. Blu-ray playback? Got it. 5.1 audio and a full set of PC streaming capabilities? You bet.

"And now back to the games."

It's mindboggling how Microsoft managed to spend nearly 45 minutes of their one-hour reveal on TV-watching demonstrations and TV show reveals.

I dont know about you guys but i for one welcome our new sony overlords.

Been a sony since the first playstation and have always been.

Buying more consoles made life easier for me but my love was always with sony.

They seem to be pushing all the right buttons which i freaking love.

I just need some good gameplay of killzone and drive club. Show me gameplay of infamous and make it launch windows. And have santa monica and naughty dog tease something and im sold on the new consoles( i am already )

If Microsoft put Vettel's face on the X1 would that make you buy it? ;D

Especially now. They'll mention it, but won't dwell on it, IMO.

So after watching the presentation yesterday we should forget about seeing Kojima on stage, right?

He will probably show at the MS E3 conference announcing exclusive DLC for MGS5 or something.

It really doesn't matter when Sony decides to reveal their own little plans because I can tell you it's not as bad as what we've come to understand yesterday. PS4 is not going to be perfect. They are going to have certain practices which are also, in my opinion, anti-consumer but part of that is just an evolution of things that had started this past generation.

PS Plus is going to have much more value for people in the next generation. There's going to be a massive focus on convincing people to join up to this service, because Sony are kind of banking on the dedicated gamer to bring them revenue from this.

To give you an idea of some ideas for PS Plus (not going to be revealed at E3):

- Early access to Sony Pictures releases. They want to try and build events around these. Once the movie is done with it's theatrical run, and due to be released on home video for example, allowing PS Plus customers an exclusive chance to watch it for a limited time. I know, not a big deal to some, but again represents a little extra value. This will be aimed worldwide so this means Europe, US etc. Not just one region.

- Potentially giving PS Plus customers access to lots of PS1/PS2 games free with Gaikai. Some PS3 games will be charged still. Various discounts related to backwards compatibility also.

More than ever, there'll be a heavy focus on service integration over these next few years to try and build up SEN. Sony Mobile are involved in this endeavour also.

Gaikai, I think, holds the most potential of anything on PS4. In 5 years time, I think it could be a service which is pretty fantastic for some folks.

Also, for folks thinking Sony won't be spending a lot of time on media capability of the PS4, there'll be focus on the PS4's media features at E3. I think about 10-15 minutes or so should be expected at this stage which is a fair bit and a lot be can explained in that time. Add in console reveal, potential partnerships, and you can expect 30 minutes of non-gaming stuff. Remaining 90 minutes or so will pretty much be game reveals and release plans etc.

Tolerate my digressions and let me for a moment play the devil's advocate :

I honestly think that despite their mediocre reveal, Microsoft is a position of force with regard to E3. They have more first party studios than Sony today, all of which had migrated to next gen development. They also unshackled themselves from the time consuming exercice of presenting services, a task that Sony is still expected to get down to. Finally, they have only one plateform to support contrary to their main rival.
With them announcing 15 new IPs within the next 12 months from their studios alone, one could doubt the capacity of Sony to counter such an offensive.
MS talked of 15 exclusives. This means retail and digital.

If you want to go down that route, Sony has lot more than 15 exclusives planned for PS4's first year on the market. You've already seen 4 retail ones. There's another 4 retail exclusives due to be unveiled for year one release. Add in certain third party exclusives on retail, and then various digital exclusives (first party and third party), and you're easily looking at more than double that amount.

I really don't think it's a problem for Sony to counter that offensive. Number of exclusives has always meant lless in my eyes than what they actually are (I'm expecting almost half of those 15 MS exclusives to be Kinect oriented casual crap which I have little interest in). With more, it just means there is a higher chance of finding something you think is interesting. One benefit I guess.

Kingdom Hearts III. Meltdowns incoming :p
Kingdom Hearts 3 will be on PS4. It's no secret at this stage that the game exists. The question I think Sony fans want answered is whether it's exclusive, timed exclusive or on multiple platforms. Regardless of when that question is answered, Kingdom Hearts fans will be happy because they'll be playing a next generation Kingdom Hearts after years of waiting.

There is a Kingdom Hearts PS4 game due to be released in 2014. I guess obvious enough which one? Not KH3 btw.

It's so obvious that Miyazaki isn't directing Dark Souls 2 because he is working on Demon's Souls 2 for PS4.

So obv.
Last bit of info then. I know you're being sarcastic, but Demon's Souls 2 is in development.

Looking at their studios, I think we can expect something like this over the next year.

Killzone: Shadow Fall
inFamous: Second Son
Knack
Driveclub
The Witness (timed exclusive)
The Last Guadian (PS3/PS4?)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3/PS4?)
Naughty Dog
Sony Santa Monica
Sony San Diego - MLB The Show 2014
Guerrilla Games New IP - The Order?
London Studio - SingStar (EyeToy Game)
Media Molecule
Ready at Dawn - action/adventure platform
Quantic Dream - derivative of Kara demo?
Ovosonico - New IP
Q-Games

And then who knows what other surprises they have.

Okay...I admit my original statement was pretty fucking stupid now. I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog's first next gen game looks like.

You and me both. I'm excited for the games I want to see and the games i want to get announce. However, I have a feeling SONY is going to fuck this up. They should have a 30 minute live stream for the TV/Media/Entertainment BS the day before the conference just to get it out of the way.

Sony needs to understand that the Core gamers are the ones that will be getting the PlayStation 4 this year and next year. We want games, games, games, games, and more games.

With MS going first, they get the final word on pricing too. If they can match them exclusive for exclusive, I don't see how Xbox can be equal in the US, let alone outside it this Holiday season.

I remember saying it would be shown in a few months, not next month at PS Meeting (which at the time, I wasn't even aware of). Regardless of that, they'll have to show it soon enough. Sony will be showing year 1 and some year 2 games so it could make an appearance at E3. I don't see its presence harming KZ in any way.

It would be big if Gabe walks out on Sony's E3 stage with a crowbar only to unveil trading cards across PSN and Steam. Chris Metzen from Blizzard comes out next with a hammer and only to unveil the PS4 version of Diablo 3 brings back the Paladin.

Who is Verendus?
Legit "insider"?

He is either right or he will be permabanned after June 10, 2013 ahahaha

yup, he made one

It's a new IP for definite. I don't want to say more than that because we're only a few months away and it'll be much more impressive to have a full reveal. It'd be unfair to GG, and this is going to be a really huge event for them. Plus I know very little, and it's no point putting it out there. It' be more detrimental than anything else. I can tell you it's not like Killzone.

I can spill the following comfortably though since I think this developer is a bit of a joke, and I think people are beginning to suspect this anyway. Versus XIII will have another unveiling later this year regarding development for the next generation. It won't have the "Versus XIII" part in the title. It will definitely release in 2014. You can have my account deleted if this information turns out to be inaccurate. News is fresh on this and I'm really confident about it. FF15 and FF16 are underway, both next generation projects. There's a chance FF15, in particular, may be an exclusive release. Kind of. And with that, I'm off to sleep.
