Sonic Lost World Wii U Exclusive

They both have awful physics, gameplay, and level design.

Physics.... yeah.... gameplay and level design?......C'mon Bruh. My only real turn off towards Sonic 4 (at first) was the craptacular music and physics, which you'll get over. It's a bit too easy but it's fun.

Absolutely, the Wii-U is a flop but at least it's a game-centric console. A Sonic exclusive would make things so conflicting for me. I will not be purchasing an Xbox 1, no way in hell. And this really hurts me because I loved the OG Xbox, absolutely loved it. But I'm fucking done with Microsoft.

Welcome to the team....

Jeez, I wonder which one the female one is.

lol at first I really thought you were serious.

I have been replaying Generations lately. Despite preferring 2D levels on my first play through I have to admit I really dig the 3D levels, could be near perfect with some fine tuning. I think the new game will benefit from sticking to just one style, hopefully 3D. As for the silhouettes, it just screams 80s/90s game villain silhouettes to me.

Also, some of those characters appear to be evil versions of the Knuckles Chaotix team.

Like this slightly better

Also confirmation that we'll hear more about it on May 29th

They all seem to have a color associated with them: green, purple, light blue, red, yellow, indigo. I wonder if it corresponds to the levels they are in? It certainly seems that the levels will be divided up into tropes like grass, fire, ice, etc.

And these are definitely other animals. I notice a couple of them wearing gloves.

Anyone else getting tired of the usual wind, fire, ice and water themes in levels? It would be cool if the game adopted something different. Like, how about a dust level in a hoover?

No?

Anyway, looking forward to finding out more!

Colors was great in this regard. The levels were quite creative. Candy Mountain was awesome.

They will all be bosses. /fingerscrossed
Yep! That's what I think as well. I like their designs, despite being mere silhouettes.

I do wonder if we're going to get some neat CG cutscenes or a Night of the Werehog-esque sort of thing to come out of this. These designs somewhat scream it.

hooboy. that doesn't look good. hopefully it's balanced tastefully like the wisps were in colors. maybe they're buddies that show up and essentially act as power ups in levels.

if it's an open-world action-adventure game, then i don't know what to expect.

edit: bosses actually makes sense. lots of pointy design elements to make a good case for that.

Sonic Team seems to have some of the worst character designers in the industry. Everything new they create looks like digimon or badly designed pokemon characters.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I wonder if this signals a 3rd party Direct for the 29th or is this Sega's own thing.

Hopefully this is more along the lines of Colours than Generations. I enjoyed Generations quite a bit, but I just didn't get that feeling I got from Colours. It felt a bit too safe. Colours just felt like a much more creative game and I also liked the heavier platforming focus in Colours. These characters look like zone specific bosses to me. But would that mean no Robotnik boss fights until the final boss? I hope not.

I have to say I really hope Sonic team get a bit braver in terms of 3D gameplay and try to get some decent open 3D areas. I'm not asking for massive open worlds or anything. Just some good 3D level design that isn't just running down a corridor. Generations was better than Colours for this, but still ridiculously simplistic.

Colours was the superior game, but stuck on a console nobody took seriously any more, and up against the nostalgia factor of level remakes and classic Sonic. Doomed to be criminally overlooked, really.

Won't lie, I fear this'll suffer the same.

Was Colours really that overlooked compared to Generations? People generally look back on it fondly, and the game sold well did it not?

Hmmm, the silhouettes look more like something out of Rayman than Sonic, and thats a good thing. Maybe the character designs have improved?

It's definitely remembered fondly by those that got around to playing it, but you'll see many citing Generations as the "end to the Sonic Cycle" simply because Colours barely registers as a *thing* in "gamer canon". It's like it doesn't even count.

That's what I ultimately found very frustrating with great games on the Wii. They were kinda being held hostage by a system that for many people invalidated them by default. There's an enormous backlash against Silent Hill: Shattered Memories among series die-hards, but that aside, it is an *excellent* game that is barely ever mentioned in games media even when rounding up Silent Hill games.

When the collective eye gives up on a platform and focuses attention elsewhere, the stuff that appears there will never be collectively remembered. Generations is the game that will leave a mark - it'll be the one cited as turning Sonic around, because it played on a stage people were watching.

That is embarrassing. LMFAO. Is that petition letter for real or a joke? Serious question.

Yup. I skipped the portion where he was boasting that he'd make his kids play the classic Genesis games so they'd learn the "majesty" that SEGA once was. lol

Here's the whole thing:

Turning Sonic into a Nintendo exclusive franchise is a serious slap in the face. With Sonic (2006) we got a glimpse of a hopeful future for our beloved childhood friend in a gaming world full of rich textures and high polygon models, and with Sonic Generations, SEGA made a statement to the entire gaming world that no fan who grew up supporting their company and even starting schoolyard fights over their beloved blue versus that fat red plumber. When I have my kids hopefully over the next 10 years, their first games will be whatever modern port of the classic genesis games were so they learn the majesty of what SEGA was, and how simple it is to make someone happy by acknowledging simple genius mechanics, like the addition of the spin dash or the effect shields. As for the arguments that Sonic belonged on Nintendo for their port of Sonic Adventure, I proudly point out the availability of these games on Xbox LIVE made my 360 purchase well worth the cost of the console just to play those nostalgic titles from my youth. Although not historically recognized by the wide gaming community as a good game, Sonic (2006) was a beautiful gift from the SEGA Corp. showing the resilience and spirit all of us who were faithful to our favorite hero, and with critics aside, presented a rich world of beautiful texture and depth no Sonic game a the time had the technical ability to produce. And with Sonic Generations, fans of all ages, newcomers discovering our lightspeed hero for the first time and veterans of the ever escalating war with egghead were given a hearty reminder of why we fell in love with this cocky cobalt Erinaceinae, many of us from his start in '91 and shown SEGA hadn't forgotten us by making it available to the entire world through whatever console we prefer to have. Nintendo has a proven track record of being behind the power curve and catering only to the younger audience, being a child's company and for the most part ignoring a major portion of gaming revenue from the original soldiers of NES vs Genesis wars. Playstation and Xbox owners love their consoles, as do PC gamers love their rigs, and all of them view the WiiU as inferior. it's market caters to the young and naïve, whereas the other three major settings continue pushing their hard and software to the graphical limits, mass marketing to all age groups with everything from Call of Duty and Assassins Creed for the mature audiences to The Avengers and Sonic... oh wait, I forgot about how SEGA is making plans to deny 3/4 of the market from continuing the adventures of our hyper active insectivore. I'm not buying a WiiU just to pay another $180 for my childhood hero. Instead, I humbly request you not allow the bastard plumber to triumph over his only real competitor through eternity and continue with the same spirit of loyalty to your fans and supporters that was showcased in Sonic Generations. Encompass that magic to continue producing worthwhile tales of adventure with essence of speed and allow the world to hear your battlecry: SEGA does what Nintendon't.
Though no longer producing hardware, the bastard plumber must never dethrone our champion!

Being as those shadows look different from past Sonic Team creations, maybe it has something to do with them belonging to this "Lost World." Also maybe because Nintendo put their foot down and tols Sega to get with it!
