Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

I seriously don't believe this game is rushed. It will be two years between Generations and this game, which is quite a lot of time for this team actually.

EDIT: Also if you have played the game, I have a few questions:

1. is it fast (I mean Unleashed fast)
2. are its problems of the same kind as Unleashed's "problems" minus the Werehog, as in very fast, difficult, no "momentum" gameplay? Because really, someone saying a Sonic game sucks can mean all kinds of things, Unleashed is my favourite 360 game and it rated worse than Sonic 2006 on some websites (a game that I despise).

1. for some stages you'll be blazing, in others you will not. Different stages can mean lots of different types of play styles...
2.Yes in the fast sections there is no "momentum" which is to say you just stop. And there are a lot of obstetrical that make you all the sudden stop in those sections.

If a mod is up in here you want to clean up my posts and delete them? I'd like to share more, but you have brought up a good point Yoshi. Is there an anonymous section to upload info like this?

While I cannot be sure, I know for a fact Sonic Lost Worlds was a multiplatform title before becoming a Wii U exclusive. I think Beardychan seems to be for real.

The Sonic community breeds some of the weirdest "rumor" shit from supposed insiders that somehow always gets taken into public light. 50% of those rumors stem from TSSZ and I'm pretty sure some even got GAF threads, so you'll have to forgive my own personal skepticism anytime someone pretty much goes "I know someone who works at Sega".

ah, i see. i don't frequent the sonic threads myself, but i can see that. it's one of the more active game fanbases out there.

Just remember that Rich only watched the game being played. It's possible that he may have missed some issues. Although, you'd think he could report things like cheap deaths just by looking.

Did you play the 3ds version as well? Did you find problems with the fast levels or the slow levels mainly?

My problem is just that it could just well be a Sonic fan who is disappointed that it is Wii U exclusive. 'Originally mulitplatform', 'gimmicks in favor of gameplay enhancement', 'hardware limitations', and so on...

What do you mean? That sounds the opposite of what was in the IGN interview.

“In previous 3D Sonic games, even if you're running through a level at top speed, if you hit an obstacle you stop instantly. To avoid this, we added a new action to keep Sonic running, even when you hit an obstacle. To make sure it only happens when you want it to, it's triggered by the player holding the run button.”

it's not what I've heard, it's what I know. You'd think a game would change in 4-6 months after getting vital negative feedback, but they didn't change anything. In fact they made it worse by adding in Wii-U specific stuff. A lot of cheap deaths will be had at the expense of players frustration.

If this was originally multiplat when he played it and it sucked, what kind of hardware limitations are we talking about?

This wouldn't surprise me. The game must have been in development for 2-3 years now.

But can't you play it with wiimote+nunchuk? Whatever gimmicky shit they stick on the gamepad wouldn't matter if you had a conventional controller option.

If that was the case I wouldn't even bother with saying anything as I don't normally speak freely in the games forum about one specific game or another. The issues are real and it wasn't an isolated issue in the game it was all throughout. But like I said previously don't let my judgement of the game convince you. If it comes out and it's good for you that's all that matters.

I wanted a good game and while it might be excusable to some degree to challenge folks, you shouldn't punish them for playing your game on hardware your development team have issues with. Adding in mechanics for the sake of exclusivity will not help either, especially when they cause more issues.

I did not play the 3ds version.

Sorry, but I'm finding this a bit of a stretch. From what I recall, this team put out some good and technically competent wii games. To top it off, the wii u toolchain was garbage until about november/december, where it (apparently) improved quite dramatically. I find it hard to fathom that Sega's engineers are having that difficult of a time with the hardware given those data points.

Not that it's out of the realm of impossible, but perhaps clarification is necessary given those previous points.

This doesn't make it clear, because actually I think it's rather obvious that it was. Nintendo paid for this exclusivity in some form and of course Sega had a back up plan in case this didn't come to fruition.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Everyone is finding it a hard time with WiiU these days, and these dev teams are/were working with Hedgehog Engine created specifically for 360/PS3/PC. There was no Wii version of Sonic Generations for instance.

Now take a multi-platform game and make it WiiU only (which is 9/10 when WiiU games get crappiest versions), and add extra gimmicky gamepad stuff around the sides. Recipe for uh ohs.

Only this one seems to be very ecstatic about the game.

Opinions differ. If I was a playtester for Sonic Unleashed, I would have said it's amazing, some serious issues, but they only touch separate parts of the game (referencing Werehog and overworld), but what's good is incredibly good. Many people would have said it sucks balls.

Oh fuck me; I just had a thought.

Nintendo and Sega have said that the reason we've never seen a Mario & Sonic platformer is because they wouldn't fit together.

What if... the name Sonic: Lost World is a red herring? A codename? And the upcoming 3D Mario due to be revealed at E3... is this?

It would certainly explain the Wii U exclusivity.

It's a fucking long shot indeed, but one can hope...

Pass over some of whatever it is you've been smoking bro

What is the gimmicky gamepad stuff? I didn't see it specifically talked about.

Hmm. I can confirm that it's been in the hands of play testers for some number of months. So what he is saying may very well be true.

well her story makes sense. whats everyone elses excuse

Not only did I create art assets for the company but I was also part of the QA team at SEGA on the title for a while too. And I was -ALSO- part of promoting the game (NiGHTS' inclusion specifically) at the American Sonic convention 'Sonic Boom' where I appeared on stage.

Interesting. That guy/gal is singing a different tune.

One of the hardcorest Sega fangirls you will ever find out there. Not a shred of impartiality to be found.

Anyway this sucks because I like some of the ideas this game is said to be tackling, but execution is everything and sounds like this is a rush job which Sega historically never do well with.

As I've said before, the only thing scarier than Nintendo fanboys (of which I count myself amongst) are not even Sega fanboys... but rather Sonic fanboys.

As I've said before, I'm tentatively excited by what I've seen, but I can wait for more hands on impressions before I get too worked up.

I'm still pumped for the game. I honestly only trust about three people's opinions on games in the world.

Colors and Generations were pretty great, and this looks good so far. Great music also goes a long way for me. Gimmicks on the gamepad don't bother me. I don't know what that even means, besides touching the gamepad for a few things probably. And they said they're trying to bring in some more humor with the new enemies, which I'm happy about.

Plus, I've never actually even met a Sonic fan I really agree with. They'll see cardinal sin in the tiniest momentum and roll variations that I really just can't be bothered to care about.

My hype remains in tact.

So does she even like Sonic 06 or Black Knight? Because this is my bar for blind, non-trustworthy Sonic-Fan.

It's hard not to be impartial when it comes to Sonic no matter what end of the spectrum you're on, and while I understand that TRiPPY might not be the best judge, there's still Rich's preview of the game who is very positive about it.

Since the embargo seems like it's going to lift today, we should expect previews. I'll wait and see until then. Without discrediting Beardy's input, I honestly think this looks like Sega's finally getting it right in terms of Sonic gameplay. I was never excited about Unleashed or Generations even going by the initial trailers, and that seems to be what everyone hoped for this to be.

While its always good to be careful with expectations when it comes to sonic games, I'm going to remain optimistic on this game. I don't think Sega wants to risk Sonic's wounded but recovering reputation by releasing a game before its ready.

Aren't you under a NDA? If I were Sega I would make sure to track down some personal information and file a legal complaint for breaking a contract.

the game is fall 13.
it's obvious that they are beta testing it.
I still don't see where the Wii U exclusivity (considering that it's not a system that struggles compared to PS360, considering how the unveiled gamepadi integrations seem "easy" and so on) should have created issues that weren't there before when it was multiplatform (especially if you consider that it already was on the Wii U)

Has it been confirmed whether the 3DS version has completely different levels or not? The screens look like it's just a downgraded port of the Wii U version.
