Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

Fair enough, but that actually is Sonic for you (usually). Sonic 3 & Knuckles is also full of details and features still great looking sprite work because of it, so it also isn't exactly a new thing.
It is disappointing to me especially, since the WiiU still feels it offers nothing but souped up Wii games right now and since Sonic games usually offer stunning visuals, I finally expected/wanted more out of an exclusive game than something that looks like an HD port of Galaxy (without the fidelity in art design Galaxy had).

I know your feel but maybe they are going to improve the graphic..

I think he's talking about the Sonic portions, which I at least think are the best in the series. Werehog and overworld aren't too great, but they also don't suck as much as the secondary characters in the Adventures.

Eh, I really wouldn't go as far to say that. The reason I abhor Unleashed with a passion is because as a game it's just not well designed in the slightest. Werehog is well made as it's own thing but it's woefully paced and doesn't belong in the game. To access all those levels you need the medals, and you'll spend more than half of the entire game time playing the Werehog just to find medals. Then you'll have 4 minutes of fast paced Sonic action until you're back to 20 minutes of scavenging. Sonic Unleashed breaks flow in an awful way, and the only reason I remember it fondly is because I could go back and play the levels I wanted after finishing it... Before I realized the game play is one-note an doesn't provide much but mindless QTE speed running.

Adventure 2 at least had the decency to have acts not last longer than 5-6 minutes so levels would generally go by relatively fast, and despite Treasure Hunting/Shooting becoming butchered since their Adventure versions, they're still paced well enough in a way that makes them much faster than Werehog + Medal Collecting.

Was going to cut together all the gameplay into a gif, but that would be stupid huge. So here's a pure gameplay gif sample.

All I want is a nice story and none of those end level total score points

You want there not to be a result-screen at the end of a level and thus no ranks either? That is the worst idea for a Sonic game I have ever heard. Also, the story is the important thing here? In a Sonic game? I'm lost.

EDIT: At poster above: But Luigi do it!

I want as much as possible to just run at high speed and dodge/jump/roll to avoid dangers and clear tight level design.

Please no "adventuring".
Please no "dramatic storytelling".
Please no "gimmicky minigames".

1. for some stages you'll be blazing, in others you will not. Different stages can mean lots of different types of play styles...
2.Yes in the fast sections there is no "momentum" which is to say you just stop. And there are a lot of obstetrical that make you all the sudden stop in those sections.

If a mod is up in here you want to clean up my posts and delete them? I'd like to share more, but you have brought up a good point Yoshi. Is there an anonymous section to upload info like this?

Why? Afraid we learn what you said is bull? Afraid that you broke your NDA (which you obviously did)?

Where do YOU get this info from, anyway? What's your background?

I have to say, this is the first Sonic game that has me genuinely interested. It seems they finally got rid of all the useless lipstick they put on the corpse that were the 3D sonic games.
Cut the fat, focus on gameplay, know your audience.

Shame it's exclusive. Will probably limit it's sale potential severely.

Unleashed was my favorite of the three. Outside of some small issues with which I was able to overlook. I thought it was the best of the three for how it combines speed, control, and well designed worlds.

I thought colors was just plain confused, but at least it played well enough. Same could be said for Generations too. Not my two favorite 3d sonics. I think out of all of the 3d one's the dreamcast games still hold up and even Shadow wasn't that bad too. I very much prefer the 2d over the 3d gameplay mechanics of sonic.

Well, I think it's pretty safe to say that even if you are legit, your opinions on the games don't reflect those of the consumers at large.

I think the game will turn out just fine.

A good friend of mine is playing Shadow right now to get all entries in the library, and there is really not much to like at all. Still, there are a few levels that are mostly OK, if you play the right mission (i.e. the one where you just run to the goal). However, if Sonic Lost World features worse level design than Shadow, it's really close to being ignored by me. Glad it doesn't look like it at all.

Not really. Since going third party, Sonic games have always sold best on Nintendo platforms. If the Wii U bounces back, which is likely looking at the lineup for this year, then Sonic will be a welcome addition to many a Wii U player library

But it also means non Nintendo owners won't get to try it, which is a shame. 3rd party exclusives suck ass.

Re-watching the IGN version of the trailer, I can't help feel how...Nintendo-ish the game is.

Not a bad thing at all mind you, it's just the tone feels like something from a Mario game. The level design is obviously inspired by Galaxy (mixed with XTreme), and the light-hearted tone of it all and general goofy designs of the enemies seems like something that'd be right at home in a game on a Nintendo platform.

Because of this, I find it hard to believe that Lost World started life as a multi-platform game. Silly reasons I know, but still.

Considering Sonic is a platformer and Nintendo is the king of platformers, it would be strange for Sonic fan not to own a Wii U in the long run.

Really people of ps3 and Xbox360 should feel bad about Nintendo fans.. because they dont get much of 3rd party games for the Wii u..

To be honest, Nintendo is the only one to blame. They had the chance to redeem themselves... they didn't soooo

There's something fishy going on here...
I love pre E3 time. Suddenly a lot of "insiders" come out to play :lol

Well there is a an easy solution for those non Nintendo owners.

In a perfect world, all consoles would get all 3rd party content, but that's out of the question sadly.
It's a shame that non-Nintendo owners can't play this game... wait, what?

Just like Bayo 2, you can always get a Wii U so you can play the game.

Yes, I hate 3rd party exclusives with a passion. It's a reality I have to deal with, but I'd rather see all 3rd party games release on all platforms including PC.

I want the exact opposite the past sonic games just prove that running fast is a horrible game concept.

I think exclusive games and real multiplatform games are all fine, exclusivity offers advantages too (gameplay wise, tech wise and marketing wise), what I think is shabby, is excluding one party (usually, but not always Nintendo since GameCube-days, but it also happened to Xbox systems), if it is not a big hurdle to offer a version for the third console too.

Ultimately, it looks like a 3D version of Green Hill Zone. We don't really see any other environments in this trailer. I'm interested but not convinced at this point that it will be anything special. But more importantly, I'm just glad Wii U will have a game coming.

Haven't read the entire thread but are people upset the the WiiU got a title that the other platforms did not? Meanwhile 90% multipolar form games skip the Wii entirely.

That is like a fat rich man angry at a starving kid because he found a cookie.

On topic: it is really nice to see something colorful again. This might not be pushing the hardware but it looks like a lot of fun. As with any sonic game, I'll wait for reviews but it looks like sonic as a franchise is on the mend.

Yeah, the people here saying this doesn't look good are smoking that good shit. How it plays though is big, but I have faith in post Colors and Generations Sega.

Eh is there any evidence that they downright paid for it?

It could also be part of the Mario & Sonic agreement or because of a favourable publishing agreement, but it's quite obvious Sega didn't do this because they thought "Let's make Sonic exclusive for a while". Even when the super-successful Wii was available and the shitty SD version of Unleashed outsold the PS360 versions, Sega still decided to release Generations only for PS360. If there ever was a point in time where it would have been an obvious decision to make Sonic Nintendo exclusive it was the Wii-generation. Still, Nintendo might have gotten this cheap, if Sonic & All-Stars Racing transformed manages to outsell the PS3 and 360 versions on an abysmally low install base.

I found it hard to believe BeardyChan. I mean it's the first time in 20 years a Sonic game looks interesting to me. Everything shown in that trailer looks way better than any previous 3D Sonic games before it. Even jumping looks good. Obviously seeing real gameplay is necessary before making final judgment, but I'm rarely wrong, I can very well guess the feel and physics of a character just by looking at it.

Although I like Sonic and love my Wii U, this trailer shows not the graphic enhancement I would have expected on a HD console...not even last gen. Hopefully the game won't look like this when released.

I absolutely cannot believe that you guys are actually believing some random person on an internet forum that claims he has "insider knowledge" without any actual proof. I guess gaf can be a little stupid at times? I for one will wait until the game actually comes out before setting my expectations.

Pretty sound, I imagine my expectations could be adjusted perfectly if I wait until a game comes out.

I um whoa... watching the trailer Sonic Galaxy looks amazing  It's a shame the trailer is so compressed but watching it on a iPhone 4 somewhat countered that :p I really love that they went all crazy on the structure design and that grass and landscape is downright beautiful! I knew from the start that I wouldn't regret buying a Wii U and this just confirmed it even more :D
