Sony E3 press conference; June 10th 6PM PT/9PM ET

They haven't released a retail game since then, so I don't see your point. Portal 2 wasn't a decade ago, it was two years ago, a lot of studios don't put out games more frequently than that.

Half-Life 3 will be a retail game, and it will be on PS4, and it will make a lot of money.

My point was their earners are hats, and DOTA.

It probably isn't financially imperative to release physical copies of Half Life 3. They probably don't even need to come to consoles. We're not even sure Half Life 3 will be a game that could be released physically.

Perhaps it's a Walking Dead type episodic jobby? Pay incrementally? Might be f2p. And then on top of that, what is the value of having that highly anticipated game, exclusively on Steam?

I was just pointing out that it ISN'T a given, that it will be packaged, or that it will come to consoles. Especially as they're edging closer to stepping on each other's toes.

I seriously doubt that. Portal 2 and both L4Ds have a combined selling number of around fifteen million units, of course that's not all at full price, but those three games probably brought in around half a billion dollars.

Hats make a lot of money, but I don't believe they're even close to full game revenue for Valve. And even if they were, it's not an either or proposition.

So, fellow Europeans, what is your plan for next Monday? I will probably go to bed at 9 or 10 pm and set the alarm for 2:50 am (CET). I did it last year and it worked fine for me. If I can sleep that is. I love that there's something as exciting for me as a grown up as Christmas was for me as a child.

As much as I love Sony and I'm dying to see their conference, I'm afraid that I'll have to watch a recording of it.

I get up at 06:00 AM for work and I'd like to avoid having a zombie face. But god knows if I'll be able to sleep at all (excitement).

That's my plan.

Why would they be allowed to speculate when their site is representing an official "virtual E3" experience? It just seems odd if they are able to just post whatever they want to just because they think it may be at E3.

The site was made for official coverage of E3 and had its own Twitter and stuff too before being absorbed into @E3expo or something.
Its their official 'news site'. I think they are just preemptively creating all these listings in case it turns out to be true. Sony already shot down the TLG listing.

I have the day off work on Tuesday, so I'm probably just gonna stay awake and watch it. I'll just wake up extra late. I wouldn't be able to go to sleep anyways.

Well that's the plan assuming nothing happens. My sister may scupper that plan, but at least for the right reasons

Stay up all night, since the last press conference (Ubisoft?) is 2 hours hours before the Sony one. If it's not interesting and I can get some sleep, I'll just set the alarm to 3 am so there's no chance that I don't wake up in time

Well... There's no proof either way to be fair. Sucks they're private company. But if I were to make like a Pachter and guess, I'd say they do pretty well out of that.

And it's a bit of a fallacy to imply I was saying it's either make games or do monetisation. I simply meant that, Half Life 3 would still sell gangbusters on Steam alone and those other people who are hearing about it, would have to jump on Steam to get it.

Got to sleep :(

No way can I stay up that late without my sis and parents knowing and I have exams on Wednesday.

I'm working the night shift which means I can watch everything with a collection of snacks.

It will be glorious.

The site has gotten pretty major stuff wrong in past years. They listed Diablo 3 years before it actually showed up and have listed HL3 and other stuff. I highly doubt TLG will hit PS3.

They don't have to do anything at all, they could slim down to just a fifty Steam staff and live off their 30% of everything forever and still be one of the highest earning companies per staff size in the world.

They're still going to make traditional game experiences, and they'll be targeted for whichever platforms are viable. The Steambox is way bigger in the eyes of people on GAF than it is for Valve. It's just another HTPC. It won't change Valve's position against the first parties, they were the biggest PC gaming hub this whole generation, and HTPC's aren't new. If they're competing, they always have been.

7 Days to go. Thought I'd come up with a list of 10 topics (one per day) we can all post about until E3 gets here.

That sounds dirty xD

I still don't know. The Ubisoft conference lasts until 1 AM CET and I want to watch that. But what am I going to do for 2 hours then. Getting sleep for 2 hours might work, but waking up at 3 AM could be hard. First world problems.

Again, I never said they won't make traditional experiences. I also never said anything about HTPC's, or Steambox. I am not talking about Steam as a competitor to these platforms in the living room. I am not talking about them entering the console space (which as you say, is just a thing on a GAF).

I am talking about these platforms vying for the same digital space, something that just wasn't as competitive last generation. Now we're seeing that transition to retail redundancy, why should Valve bother with the consoles? If they are just going to push their game to XBL and PSN, why bolster someone else's service?

I'm just saying it's not a given. I don't agree with yoru certainty on the topic. I don't disagree with you per se.

Lol. She's due to give birth to my niece or nephew on the 10th. As much as I'm excited for E3, somethings have higher priorities

I guess we'll see, probably sooner rather than later. Valve are a very forward thinking company, I don't believe they would have been so late to pivot, they'd have not supported them this generation either.

Their games have far greater worth as an endorsement for Valve to console owners, than as exclusives that are so easily overlooked by the console crowd, and Valve know that, it's why Portal 2 on PS3 comes with a free Steam version, for example.

Has to be yeah, they're going to push Source 2 hard, and they're going to debut it with HL3, so unless they want this generation of tech to rush by them, they have to announce it this year, next GDC at the very latest I imagine, either way, 2014 release.

will there be a list of links provided nearer the time for the conferences?

how has streaming on PS Home been in past years? I only became a PS3 owner recently so the other day i installed PS Home in preparation incase i use that to watch the E3 conference, how does it work watching through that though? if that is the case anyway?

So is there any way to watch this on TV? In generally watching these conferences on HD tv are much better quality than Streams.

If she doesn't have the courtesy to tell you whether it's going to be a boy or a girl, I don't think you're required to commit to attending yet.

does anyone else feel like Metal gear solid 5 is gonna appear at xbox conference with some sort of exclusive dlc or something? here are my reasons for thinking so

i recently watched this playstation ethos video and i do not see snake at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fMRYPZ4Jek

then hideo appears in that video at xbox reveal.

not appearing in all stars

mgs 5 trailer or any other news regarding it not on playstation blog which is really odd

i guess it could be that nintendo has something locked up as well but xbox seems more likely.

Doesn't mean anything. Kojima was also in a Wii U video.

I missed my niece's birth because I didn't see the point of going :)
First birth in the immediate family. Cousins are coming from London, as are aunts and uncles. First grandchildren. They would all gang up on me. I'd be dead man walking

Hey at least I can never be disappointed if for some reason Sony's showing isn't as good as I'd like! I expect great things though. Besides my sister will want to know about the Final Fantasy that gets revealed!

Tell them a human baby is born everyday. A console is born only every 5-7 years.
