Disgusting behaviour by Microsoft if true. Also why would publishers agree to this? Maybe because xbox one is implementing its used game policy and the ps4 is maybe taking alternative route that some of the publishers don't like?

I've never actually seen anyone care about footage/demos on the show floor. Do people report on version differences? Don't people usually just read the PR and then go on appointments to ask how awesome games are etc?

Call of Duty: Ghosts is on PSN (the trailer), so I don't think they can buy like media silence

Man, next-gen is really bumming me out. Sony needs competition to thrive, and now Microsoft is just giving up. Even if we're saving money by not having to buy the Xbone, we're missing out in the long run.

You're acting like the community is incapable of assessing if a post has a good point behind it. Or more importantly, if a post is just making noise and senselessly perusing an agenda.

I like to think people are wiser than that. The negative assumptions and vehement, categorical criticism of Microsoft, to the stated benefit of Sony, seems to be the norm at the moment on the board. Some of this is completely warranted. But the idea that some people would react to that, in the sense that they try to convey why they think Microsoft has a chance or why they think the product can be good, doesn't require a web of deliberate corporate-backed deceit. Some people really do like Microsoft as a company, and if those people get accosted for explaining their point of view, then there's more wrong with this board than there is with them.

If there's shady goings-on, I want to see them called out, but I'm smelling a lot of innuendo and a desire for the worst-possible-scenario to be true, because it plays into a popular narrative that company A is evil and company B is righteous.

I hope many stand up to them. It's not right trying to do stuf like this, because it only hurts consumers, whose primary purpose should always be to inform themselves before they make major purchases. If Microsoft were really to do this, it would be another slap in the face of consumers, even if they don't realize it.

My hope is that many of the people MS is paying will simply say no, or that this specific rumour is false. I really do hope for the best going into E3, because I desperately want to get excited for Xbox One and things like Quantum Break and Forza 5. But the more Microsoft keeps doing stuff like this (if they do it), the more it keeps killing any possible remaining goodwill I can have.

Going from thinking 360 was the best console of the gen to feeling literal disgust in the pit of my stomach just hearing the name Xbox One is such a shocking change of events I cannot even believe we're here now.

In the 32 bit days it was a big deal.

Playstation VS Saturn Tomb Raider being a big one.

I think they are worried about history repeating itself. If anything it's one of the more brilliant moves if the cost is right. I still don't believe all of this, but it is extremely plausible.

As someone who pretty much played the 360 exclusively this gen, and someone who has put thousands of hours into Halo games pre 343. I literally lose interest in the Xbox One every time I hear more about it.

Sony, you have my attention now, please deliver.

If they could do the latter, I could see them saying fuck MS's money, and just showing really robust gameplay video.

Yep. microsoft has been nailed for anticompetitive practices many..MANY times. Granted, they're not the only ones (Nintendo got nailed for AC practices in the NES era) but its happened several times.

See, the thing is, I don't know who you are. So what happens is: I look at your post, and instead of entering into a good debate or exchange of ideas, I say why bother. If this person is a shill, it will be an aggravating waste of time.

You seem to be forgetting that they (the ps4 at least) have direct access to large amounts of ram. If they are using more than 2GBs of ram per frame, then the majority of video cards out there are going to simply choke. People are going to have to drop vram hungry effects and textures. Also, PC requirements seem to get inflated when the game gets ported. Like Bioshock Infinite, they recommend a video card with 1GB of ram which is more than what 360 or PS3 have. Even the minimum requirements is 512GBs. The only way there isn't going to be a problem is if they develop the game with the PC in mind or we start getting 4GBs of vram on video cards.

I miss the days Proelite would tell us that Xbox durango was around 10% more powerful than PS4, someone else would say Sony doesn't have the money to mass produce the console, or that Sony doesn't have the money to invest in the design of a more powerful console, lherre's statement that both consoles are incredibly close or Aegeis' continued talks about developer confidence being low in the PS4 and that he had found the engineers doing something supremely exciting and that that emotion would be shared by all if they knew what he knew.

It's like you can write a new version tale, Chronicles of GAF: Escape from reality.

Oh well, PS4 technically will be the weaker of the two consoles with the aid of clowd integration anyway.

I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.

This is what I was talking about when I posted can 3rd party devs gimp one version if they got money hatted by a console manufacturer so the more powerful console doesn't look better. And many here suggested that this cannot happen or has not happened in past gens. But I can see this happening since this is how MS plays by using its money hats! The above news is outrageous if its really the truth. :/

If Microsoft is actually paying people not to show the PS4 version of their games, it may mean that they're starting to panic after seeing all the backlash from their event and are now engaging in highly defensive tactics to try to compensate for their percieved weakness. Sony's approach and the negativity surrounding their anti-consumer policies and multimedia focus may force them to reevaluate their strategic positioning in the future market. Unfortunately for them, the time is running out and after E3 there's no turning back.

yeah, no reason to question that guy. As far as I can see he's legit.

He DID say though that this is something microsoft is "attempting" to do, and "of those who take the money" no games may be seen for PS4.

This isn't likely to be any JP devs of note (because MS is nonexistent in Japan), nor is it likely to be anyone the size of EA, Activision, or Ubisoft. Not only are those three simply too large to moneyhat that way, no one in their right mind thinks Madden, COD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, etc won't show up on PS4.

That's pretty disgusting. How about instead of paying to make the rival console not look interesting to gamers, they go back to the drawing board, scrap this cablebox shit and use the money to make a console that is interesting to gamers.

Oh well. On the plus side theres no way in hell I'm supporting Xbox/Microsoft this gen so they've saved me a couple of hundred $$$ on the price of the console.

The two aren't even the same fucking thing. Microsoft is paying for studios to simply not show the PS4 version, not dumb it down. It would take a lot of money to get a company to suicide their PS4 versions by dumbing the products down, because at the end of the day the PS4 releases will be compared to other PS4 games, not Xbone games. And PS4 exclusives are going to look significantly better.

Pretty much. Not sure why anyone would be outraged by this. Its just on a grander scale than whats already happened with shit like Assasins Creed ads for Playstation or CoD for Xbox. The question of whether a game is exclusive or not will be pretty easy to answer.
