But people were saying to lock this thread up!

Still sounds like it's isolated to 1 person. So, yes?

Are you even reading this thread? There are 4 different cancellations now. Defend the cancellations if you want, but you can't just keep saying, "It's only one person," because it clearly isn't at this point.

This "scheduling conflicts" excuse for cancelling the media roudtable and now certain 1 on 1 interviews smells like pure bullshit.

Do they seriously expect us to believe that just a few days before E3, a hugely important E3 for Microsoft (at a time when they are trying to get the right message out to people following the blowback from the reveal) that their execs now suddenly don't have time to talk to the media? Something more important has come up at the same time that E3 is happening that warrants their presence elsewhere and it just so happens to coincide with the exact time of the roundtable and interviews and it involes everyone they could put out there to talk to the press? Really? Fucking really?

Anyone taking this as face value is delusional.

Is there something more important in their schedule right now for the gaming division of Microsoft? Maybe they have to speak with the Netflix guys?

Actually, MS selectively cancelling interviews seems far more worrying for me than cancelling all of them.

It would cause a huge backlash for Microsoft. Game Journos who can't compete because they simply had no chance of getting early information will be very upset. I could see this being reflected in their future articles.

This just keeps getting weirder and weirder. What the hell has Microsoft been doing for the past few years? Everything surrounding this console just screams poorly-planned and uncoordinated.

Someone asked who they were, well, to tell you honestly , I had no idea about 5 minutes back.
I am not saying, theirs was cancelled just because......

Did the other sites whose interviews were cancelled also give them bad press?

P.S. High Five to the guy who tweeted this. Pure Gold and unfortunately the truth.

That's not "bad" press...that's just stupid press. They literally weren't informing anyone about anything, just cracking jokes the whole time. Seems like they are the farthest thing from unbiased just by reading that. Haven't heard about them until today so can't really comment with any solidarity however...just basing it off those pics.

So they have other things to than talk with game journalist during... wait for it... E3.
So with whom will they talk ?

This is really strange. I guess they're really going to try and keep information flow really tightly controlled.

Doesn't bode well for what they're likely to say.

I do wonder if the only interviews they're giving are to people who will "play ball".

The extent to which people are just looking for reasons to be negative about Microsoft is staggering.

Now we have people in here implying that Major Nelson is lying? Why would he be? E3 is a fucking huge event where I'm sure conflict schedules arise all the time. Not to mention, and I say this as a Giant Bomb fan, Giant Bomb isn't exactly big stuff when it comes to user base. If you have to cancel some interviews, it's better to cancel on smaller sites (like Giant Bomb, and those other websites I've never even heard of.) Then it is to do on something like Gametrailers.

The band-wagons on this board get so omnipresent this time of year.

He's PR...lying is his job.

They've just realized they were targeting the wrong press, that's all. Probably just want to give more time to the likes of Wired, to emphasize AIO nature of the Xbox One.

I think the (in)famous arrogance of Sony in the so distant 2006 was a bit accentuate by the media, users, etc

Anyway, I can't believe what happen now. MicroSoft not only surpass the Sony arrogance, but they are setting a new standard.

I think it's not so good for the gamers (the real one I mean)

I think to clarify - it is not entirely clear that MCV had an interview cancelled. Michael French may just be relaying what he's heard from others in the press vs their own experience. I've asked him to clarify.

"Scheduling conflict"? How incompetent is their PR/marketing team exactly? Did they schedule 20 interviews to take place in the same hour or something?

Hahahahahaha

I am seriously dying from laughter at this point. This is the funniest shit I've ever seen in this industry. It. Never. Ends.

I really can't understand why people are upset. MS are delivering bucketloads. The Xbone truly is the greatest entertainment device ever.

So, what his happening. Are all 1:1 locked down or some. If it's only some, what does that mean??
Could MS actually be announcing their DRM plans and don't wish to talk about it after the show?
I'm struggling to make sense of any of this.

Cutting down # interviews and making sure they get extra rights with those who interview seems to be a smart move. They will probably get rights to review the final transcript etc. before publishing out.

Microsoft is trying to control the message, which they failed terribly at the first time around.

OK, an interesting twist - Michael French was told last week (by MS, I presume) that there would be no interviews at E3 with execs:

So yeah, maybe MS is just cancelling things because of scheduling conflicts, or maybe they are deliberately constraining their contact with the press...

So for the title, MCV didn't have an interview cancelled...they were just told up front that there were not going to be any.

We should make a prediction thread. "What will tomorrows bad news be?"

My prediction : MS forgot to get Blu Ray License now has to use 5 inch floppies as disc medium

where there is smoke, there is fire.

Microsoft doesn't want to answer questions because when they answer questions after the Xbox One reveal, their execs "accidentally" spilled the beans on how they'd be fucking consumers, leading to weeks of bad press. They don't want them to 'accidentally' tell the truth again when asked those pointed questions
