There are restrictions on how you can "give" and "loan" your games away. What's more, lending won't be available at launch, with Microsoft still "exploring the possibilities with our partners".

I could give a shit less about trading games anymore. How many times do you need to go to gamestop and have them take your game for 10 and sell it for 40 before you realize it's just not worth it.

I'm not going to subscribe to the hyperbole that the XBox One will "Destroy everything we love about gaming". Simply enough, the PC has had these restrictions for years - and nobody's given a shit because the expectations are simply different.

All that said, I don't like the half-measures here of trying to make used games work. Either keep the system the way it was during the past generation - or just kill off used games entirely & promise a Steam-esque price model. The current method they're using seems like it was written to specifically to appease GameStop, and ensures that nobody involved feels pressured to change their ways.

Will Sony use an identical system? Possibly. But I think, with the route they're carved SO FAR in the PS4 "story" - they'll hear the outrage, and change plans accordingly. Only time will tell though.

Sony have already confirmed the PS4 doesn't require an internet connection, all Sony published games can be traded/bought used. The PS eye isn't mandatory, etc.

I think some people want Sony to follow suit, in a twisted bid to justify the actions of their "preferred choice".

And actually the two are related. Microsoft is one of the companies being data-mined by the NSA, and now their latest machine requires you to be connected to the internet with an always on camera/sensor. Orwellian, literally.

The point is to get the word out to those who aren't following this, such as families. I find that most kids don't have an allowance that allows for a steady supply of $60 games with XBL Gold. They rely on trading with their friends, and selling their used games.

Unfortunately I think they're saying the same thing as Sony though, but in a much worse way. Sony implied that devs can block games if they want, MS is saying that devs can go out of the way to allow games. If they want. I'm afraid the end result will probably be the same though: pretty much all of the larger publishers will block/not allow.

The big difference is the online check-in. Sony says offline is fine, MS vehemently disagrees. As long as some games are normal, PS4 might be worth a purchase some day. MS has confirmed that the Xbone never will be, by forcing an online check-in to their servers.

I'm 100% on board for any boycott. We'll cross this bridge with Sony as well if they go down this road.

Microsoft has now come out in the open and stood behind what we all feared. There's no confusion left but in the tiniest nuances of this story: they are gunning for us as consumers, and it's either we stop it now or this industry radically changes into something not worth saving (if it even survives at all anyway).

If this not worth a boycott, absolutely no bit of game news would ever warrant such. If this is not worth a boycott, then we might as well all just go home and allow any business to take advantage of us simply because we don't want to put in the effort to push back. If this is not worth a boycott, then we never really loved games in the first place and this hobby of ours needs to go down in flames anyway.

I say, if this is not worth a boycott, then nothing in this industry ever would be.
