Xbox One to only work in certain countries at launch

This is pretty funny. Poland is not on the list and Witcher was at Xbox press conference. Does that mean that there's a chance that some of the developers of Witcher 3 on Xbox won't be able to take that game and play it at home on Xbone?

One thing i want to see addressed, i wonder how hard it is to swap accounts if you move countries? Surely they have to take this into account when people move internationally.

Even now, its a pain in the ass to move from my X360 AUS account to UAE account - there is no clear cut guide onto how to do it PAINLESSLY.

imagine if you intend to move country for job purposes (very common in Europe and Asia) and LOL you land in a no Xbox One supported zone.

console becomes a brick

Don't be silly. They can just buy more development kits.

This sucks. Until i hear i can log on to any other country regardless of xbox this really is some ridiculous shit. Right now i want to change my region from AUS to UAE - ive heard you can lose some games on this.

Also, switching from MS points to $$ is going to be a problem as i have to use my UAE credit card - if that means i have to wait for UAE support (It took MS 8 years to recognise the UAE) then im royally fucked.

Ill still wait to hear an official announcement from MS, rather than the twitter which isnt overly clear.

Yeah the more i think about the switch from ms to real money it looks like another control grab. Right now i can go online and buy any ms from any region to use on that region live account if i want. This new way the charge will likely bounce on my card because the address doesnt match or straighg up wont accept my card. Ms is making power grabs with all angles of this machine.

Holy shit. This is the gift that keeps on giving. So even if I wanted to I can't even import an Xbone? Unbelievable.

Oh yeah and don't even think about moving to another country or none of your games will work anymore? Jesus Christ what a clusterfuck.

I can't even begin to imagine what a nightmare this is going to be

what if you moved to a country without Live support? can you still check in every 24 hours?

edit: ^ oh shit, they don't know. this is incredible.

Hahaha holy shit. It's not even like you can sell your games after that either! You might as well throw it all in the bin.

"Is that a XB1?"
"Yeah, imported it from UK."
"But it's not supported here, it doesn't even work."
"I know, I know...it's gotta work some day."

This is the Xbone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AyVh1_vWYQ
just replace Sony with Microsoft.
How the hell can they say that without cracking up. I'm dead.

well, if they have said untrue things in the past, MS needs to tighten the leash, because it doesn't really matter. They are public face of the company, much like that orth guy.

Im reading into that ip checks tbh, fucking hell they really are going full blown big brother mega control of every single aspect of this machine.

Poland is in EU, them actively blocking Polish people from using it if they've imported could get them in serious legal trouble. Should note 100% sure about this being illegal, but I recall someone getting into trouble (Valve?) for trying to prevent it in recent years.

This is unbelievable. MS just doesn't give a shit. I have family in Germany and Turkey. They are pretty disgusted by MS. They have a more global view of the world then most Americans and the sentiment is essentially that MS doesn't care about anyone but the US. It's not a good vibe over there from what I've heard.

Needless to say, they are getting PS4.

After all their other policies they've released, I don't think they give a shit.

Also, I'm guessing the tag at the end of those tweets is the initials of the support helper.

They ip check now so i wouldnt rule out it being system wide next time. I use the us marketplace alot and games that aint out in the uk and some apps and all the video content wont work on my ip, its pops up and knows im not in the usa region.

It worked ok for me when XBL wasnt supported here. The fact i cant change my accounts over and im stuck in the Aussie server forever, but may not be able to use it?

I tweeted this thread to both major nelson and xbox support and told them they better clear this up officially.

For me - it should be like this.

Start XBOX ONE
Log in Account
They ask you a question "have you changed regions - which reason is your credit card now from for billing purposes?"
then you select UAE. fill in your details - you can play.

Its not that hard. my UAE PS3 account is so easy - can use my CC and everything and sony has given good support for the PS3 so hopefully the PS4 is no different.

Lets take bets, what else can Microsoft do to fuck up this console? Kinect requires an iris scan to log you in? You need to insert a urine sample into the disk drive to ensure you are the one playing the game you are licenced to play?

I can't wait to hear how publishers will react to this. They probably knew about it months ago, I wonder.

About damn time. Been reading his outlandish posts (and his excessively MS positive post history) through out the thread and my shill radar has been off the hook.

Microsoft already employed geo IP location in 2009. It determined what kind of content you could buy on the market place.

I know this because I'm in Germany and used an UK account but couldn't buy a title that wasn't available in my region. (Must be one of my first 100 posts here on GAF.)

So the technology to do this limitation has been around for a long time.

I can not imagine that they would do this. Customer support is hopefully not clear on how it will actually work at launch.
