Killzone Shadow Fall | Full Forest level gameplay | Best looking game of show?

How good is multiplayer in the Killzone series? Never owned one before, but getting this one at launch.

Killzone 2 was awesome, Killzone 3 was a little generic from taking too many influences from other games (namely CoD). Apparently the multiplayer director from KZ2 is back for this one though? I think I heard that. I'm hopeful.

Killzone 2 was one of the gens best. Phenomenal, despite the admittedly clunky controls at the time

KZ3 was not good

But the MP designer of Killzone 2 is back

Killzone 2 multiplayer was the best online console FPS this gen for me, by quite a margin. Great online set up and infrastructure, great modes, love the pacing of the gameplay and overall rolling objective system, etc

I'll be interested again in this series if we get something similarly unique (in the current console space) out of Shadow Fall, but if its more Killzone 3.. I don't think I care that much.

I'm of the opposite opinion to the majority on here. Killzone 2 was awful. Sluggish controls and rockets being spammed everywhere. Part 3 was great, but not enough stages.

Did anyone notice the odd depth of field transitions in the game? Mainly when they do a close up melee kill, it just turns on and off, a little rough looking. Although that is probably just something that will be ironed out in the final polishing stages.

Probably posted, but new to me: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/gaming/2013/06/14/xbox-one-ps4-controllers/2424527/

For those PlayStation owners that enjoy a lot of first-person shooters, prepare for some adjustments. All functions that would normally map to the L1 and R1 should buttons (aim and shoot), move to L2 and R2, which now feel more like triggers instead of just a really large input.

There were several scenarios where I wanted to tap L1 or R1 instead and got thrown off, but once players get used to it, it feels great.

The controller felt a bit heavier than PS3 models, but not bulky. The thumbsticks are also concave in the middle, which makes handling feel much better. The Start button has been replaced by Options, which essentially does the same things like pausing a game. There's also the Share button, but Sony didn't really show too many features tied to that at the show.

Also intriguing was the Touchpad, which received a lot of use during the demo for Killzone: Shadow Fall. The Touchpad added squad-based controls for a drone players command to hack, attack or defend. Sending orders required quick swipes up, down, left or right on the Touchpad. It feels surprisingly comfortable.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I am so happy you're the minority. I don't kno how you talk about rocket spamfests but then somehow like the complete clusterfuck that 3s multi is, at least the rocket spam and just throwing down spawns next to an objective subsided in 2 overtime.

From a singleplayer perspective - KZ2 was amazingly bad, the input lag was inexcusable and there was a whole host of other issues of collision detection and invisible walls. I might hear an argument for the blurry graphics of KZ2 on a stylistic preference (though I'd strongly disagree), but on gameplay KZ3 was far superior controlling and playing game, and the jetpack was simply fantastic.

The fact they made such progress on KZ3 in the gameplay department is the only reason I'm interested in this game. Though the story/characters were awful compared to KZ2 (though they were hardly good in that game either).

I actually liked the KZ2 single player better because the AI used and moved from cover in interesting ways. In KZ3 it felt like Call of Duty to me with a lot of shooting gallery type enemy placement. What I heard the Giant Bomb guys say about Shadow Fall having more open levels was promising (and different from the previous two games) but I wonder if that applies to the game in general.

Was not impressed with the forest gameplay level...to be honest i had to think a minute that this was not ps3 but for ps4. Im definitely in the PS4 bandwagon this coming gen..and i've always been a xbox fan more so than a playstation fan..but things have changed this time..im definitely buying a ps4 and by-passing the xone this gen but with that said...this KillZone footage did not impress me at all..in fact Crysis 3 on my high end rig makes this look rather drab imho. The first footage that came out for PS4 Killzone..the cloud city if you want to call it..did however looked impressive..but this forest area level is very average at best visually.

You like me, you really really like me!
I was a bit disappointed that there was noticeable pop in during the forest level gameplay. Hopefully that gets ironed out before release but I doubt it.

I agree it was less visually spectacular, but when you go to the edge of the cliff you can see the whole city rendered below, which is pretty impressive.

I dunno. Their games have always been technically impressive to me but the gameplay always seems to be bland. It isn't bad, it isn't great, its just there. I really want to like this game but I can't.

No.

Just no, please, don't judge the graphics of this game from these shots because they are terrible.

The game, in real life, look amazing. Sharp, full of details and really smooth.

Even a kid can understand this is not the graphics of the game and the screen capture are terribly compressed and low resolution.

Both K2 and K3 are pretty awesome.

K2 feel more chaotic and "heavy".
K3 is a lot more fluid, less chaotic but more "light" (but not CoDish).
In K2 you may build your class (awesome!)
In K3 there are less option.

K3 have the operation mode : http://killzone.wikia.com/wiki/Operations
Probably the best MP mode I ever played (at par with Battlefield Rush)

In the end K3 is a truly awesome experience because every class offer a very unique gameplay and you really need some skills to enjoy the game. The pace of the game, in every mode, is always awesome.

Btw, Killzone 3 have the best multiplayer maps.

You won't think that when you're playing it in 1080p. Or maybe YOU will. Even from these compressed vids i would never make that mistake.

I'm very excited to see the Helghast part of the city. The art ditector Misja Baas said he was most proud of that part

This is a fairly good analysis but I wouldn't be so quick to judge the maps. I love KZ2 MP and KZ3 MP despite what people may say. Except I've only enjoyed KZ3 MP in Botzone. It leads me to believe that KZ3 at its core isn't that bad but the developers failed to account for all the douche moves real human opponents will do. Several of the maps force you into choke points two feet out of your spawn so the game becomes essentially over. MAWLR Graveyard and The Boulevard map are really bad with this. They also have terribly placed tactical spawn positions that make them nearly impossible to capture once a couple enemies start camping the choke points. I'd say they started to fix this with the DLC, Salamun Market was pretty good (yes it's a KZ2 map but it used KZ3 mechanics and the spawns were well placed) and Lente Missile Base was exceptionally well done.

Visually it looks great. Problem is it looks boring as hell.

There is literally no games I want at launch for the PS4. Thats a problem. It looks like the launch lineup will be severely lacking.

I don't worry too much about launch line up. Just gonna pick up 1-2 games anyway. Considering Sony's track record lately with the PS3, the PS4 line up will pick up later. Some 1st party devs are still finishing stuff up on PS3

Killzone 3 is not very easy contrary to people saying it's like CoD. It is so unforgiving. You lose a TSP you're in for a world of hurt. Just keeping a TSP is very difficult against good teams. That is not even looking at the objectives that are going on all around you.

The choke points can be brutal but you have the tools to clear them. The problem is amplified whenever you lose all TSPs' when playing with randoms since people get put off and just quit making the job even tougher.

Did we ever get direct feed of the E3 demo? Searching digital foundry and gamersyde here and coming up empty, can only find a short trailer that has 60 fps haha. I want to get a good proper look at the game.
