Knack new gameplay

Sorry, but it looks boring beyond belief and after seeing what else is coming it doesn't even look next ten at all. I get that you can't do the particles and other stuff on current gen, but the environments looked terrible, small and cramped. It really doesn't feel next gen to me at the moment.
Really? It looked all sorts of next gen to me. Environment detail could be better but it's a clear step up from PS3/360 in the right shots.

Whoa, those crap quality vids aren't doing the game justice.

Yeah, it looks a lot better in the right caps. Also, there are people around the area during the town demo but they're all gated off. The running away that they do and the panning-to-where-they-are is also scripted to when you pass by them. It looked really odd when someone playing the demo triggered the camera to change and the citizens started to run... and then he walked back, lol.

Nothing I've seen looks terribly interesting, but I've convinced myself that the finished product will be well-received. We'll see!

Not really a fan of this game, it looks like the Lego games and don't think it's woth the 60 bucks. It looks more like a PSN game to me.

Ding, ding, ding. I agree, but it should look considerably better in all the shots and that's just not the case. Also gameplay wise it looks decidedly current gen, except again for the particle stuff.

Eh, it looks alright to me. Combat looks fun but the level design looks so-so, especially in this demo. I feel like I'd like the final game a lot more though. Hoping this game turns out great.

not that i am a fan, but this is nothing like lego games at all... i got two for the kids, and it is completely different genre (plus their production values suck)

I agree, it does seem to be lacking quite a lot of stuff and the world does seem bland in sense.

Plus the objects that come off from enemies when you kill them disappear WAY too quickly, stuff like that, with the tech they have, really annoys me. Not like it is even a demanding game.

When I see this game, I see a game that looks decent but lacks SO much of that little detail you want to see.

$60 is just ridiculous.

PSN game is what it should be treated like.

REALLY hope I am wrong though, Cerny is awesome.

Looks good enough that I plan to buy it at launch. The only thing that has me concerned was the developer's comment about creating a game that "anyone can finish"....

Fortunately there are difficulty settings and such, although that doesn't bode well for any challenge coming from platforming segments.

Maybe there's a reason for it? They did show people at one point but they ran I think (scared of Knack?). They're also suppose to be at war with the globins.

A narrative reason is one thing, but that doesn't mean it would make it fun. Hope I'm wrong, though.

The character models are at least acceptable. The main offender to me is the Environment detail/design.

Everything I see has been plagued with barren, desolate levels. Emptiness wherever you turn. Whatever IS there, disappears in mere seconds. Enemies, debris, objects, everything is gone in an instant. The PS4 has 7 gigabytes of usable RAM for gameplay, retaining object data should not be an issue.

Even down to the level design, it almost seems robotic, sterile, uninspired. Empty lifeless parallel hallways and corridors, devoid of any detail. Yeah there are reflective surfaces, but that doesn't hide how unimaginative the design is. Then you have the camera, snapping to fixed angles at random. It was disorienting to play to say the least. The demo had massive framerate issues too, although I assume that will be ironed out by release.

Sigh, believe me there is no game I'm rooting for more, I'd love for this game to make a 180 and impress the hell out of me, but so far it's not looking good. At all. Please I hope the launch product proves me wrong.

they are releasing a game thats not a fps, thats good but... this looks mediocre. All i saw was corridors and scenarios that I could not interact with. From a gameplay standpoint, with what i saw for now, i say NO. Big NO.

Can someone explain to me the crash bandicoot comparisons? I don't see it.

I'm confused as well.. This game looks so lifeless and boring. I just don't see the appeal. I'm hoping it'll get better in time, really want ps4 to have some "Mascot" games

Looks much better than last time I saw it. Much more color and looks VERYclear and crisp..

I too would like to see enemies, that gel gun and other particles stay on the screen longer, maybe even permanently.

It looks better, but still doesn't dispel my fears. Whoever is exclaiming "incredible and amazing" is a high person with an objectionable opinion.

I see no platforming; uninspired, empty, linear level design; encounter arenas; simplistic combat and "puzzles." Top that with the aesthetic that doesn't push anything beyond physics and you've got a game that's hardly worth even $40-$30.

Whoever likened it to Unleashed's Werehog sections was right on the money.

I wanna like it but it's not giving me anything.

Looks like something me and my son can play together and have fun with. I like the idea of growth throughout the levels, and using different power-ups to level up will at least add some depth to the gameplay. That said I'm not expecting a "super deep" experience but something a bit more casual that kids and adults can enjoy together.

this is the only thing I have pre-ordered.

although that's because i'm a little skeptical of it, and want a physical version of it I can trade in if I don't like it, but still. looks fun and I have my fingers crossed.

I think they're referring to this section here, as well as Geoff's comment during the interview calling it a callback to Crash as Cerny confirmed it. Until I see any platforming though, I can't call this game Crash Bandicoot-esque at all. It's a straight up brawler at the moment.

Probably because there's more to it than just the demos. If not, then Cerny abandoned his usual game-design method where you'd cancel if it didn't work after the first level. :/
Hell, maybe it's just simple fun. I do need to look into it more, as this is one of the more appealing launch/launch period games to me... but... launch period.

Pretty boring to be honest. Combat has very little depth and progression seems to be a linear "go from point A to point B". I know this can be attributed to a lot of games but to me it's so much more potent here

Edit: graphics looks great though

Hearing them discuss the game makes me way more interested than just seeing it. The fact that they're taking a different approach to Knack's body type and gameplay for each level seems promising.

Eh, lifeless. The levels look completely empty and without soul. I love Cerny and I'm sure I'll pick it up at Launch but, I expected a bit more.

Yeah needs more stuff to smash and put more emphasis on building knack bigger as part of gameplay. Not just breaking a couple small things making you bigger all of a sudden.

it reminds me of a slower paced rachet and clank with no guns and crash bandicoot flair to the gameplay. problem is, there arent many things on the screen attacking or breaking apart, so everything feels even more static.

I'm expecting it to have bolts/coins flying everywhere after taking out a giant horde of enemies. Not 1-2 types with not much else going on.

Gameplay looks boring. All I see is punching and Jump kicks (or whatever it is) and the different Knacks all appear to do the same thing even the Ice one.

Need to see more gameplay closer to release.

The open grassy area that we saw in the initial reveal trailer seemed pretty platformer-ish to me too. I'm hoping as info trickles out, the game looks less linear so people will at least be satisfied with that. (No hope for anyone who hates the art direction)

Gonna pick this up so I can play with my nephew at launch, it's looking great and some of the gameplay elements mentioned sound very impressive.

I mean, doesn't this sequence kind of look platform-y to you?

As a huge Crash fan, seeing this out of nowhere really pleased me so much, I think they haven't shown a lot of these types of sections which will probably be scattered throughout the levels like in Crash I hope.

Also, the ice level looked really nice. I could totally see a more complicated area later in the game that takes advantage of the sliding he was doing. And I'm really curious about the mention of "Ice Knack melting in the sun", I think that's the second time we've heard that so I'd be surprised if they don't make an area where you have to figure out how to manage that or get through part of a level fast enough or something like that.

I don't know... Game seems so lifeless and bland when outdoors and gameplay looks so simple. However, it looks more varied and fun indoors.

Need to see more, but I hope there's more to gameplay and attacks than what's been showed.

Same here, I was actually starting to flake a little due to all the negativity coming out from some vocal GAFfers, but now? Now my faith is back full force and IT SHALL NOT BE SWAYED.

Given the graphical presentation it's easily 1080p/60, isn't it?
It should be, but based on the video I've seen dips and stuttering. So depending on what framerate is was running on during the show there might be a call for concern.

I wish they changed the design of Knack so that his pieces actually like... touch each other.. rather than each piece being suspended in air with exactly 3 inches between every one.

I imagine it's because he has to dissemble and reassemble himself on the fly though.

The levels do look too barren, and more platforming would give it a LOT more of a nostalgic mascot character game feel.

But this is the first time I've really seen the katamari-ish hook, which is actually a pretty awesome direction to go, assuming they really use the fact that you grow in the levels and don't get stuck on just making it a health bar.

That part of the game's core design is the first thing that's made me think about buying the game. Seeing how similar it is to katamari, the way he can get bigger in a few minutes of a short town level, and fences which used to be obstacles suddenly become tools you can pick up and throw -- that seems pretty unique and exciting.

Hope they liven up the levels in the next few months.

I actually prefer that look. Makes him look more interesting and exotic.

The gameplay to me look unique and very original. Sure, it may not be the most robust gameplay, but it seems like it has a lot of variety in the level design. The 4 levels they showed each had a substantial amount of different situation for you to have to contend with.

It looks like a perfect "old school" game in the vein of the titles mentioned like Crash.

It should be a welcome addition to the launch. Not the most anticipated title certainly, but one worthy of attention in a busy launch.
