Xbone PR: the 60 Minute Family Plan Revelation

I believe this 100% but why would Major Nelson tell Angry Joe to think of it just like a library.

Oh wait library's have dates to return.

Damn.

This entire thing is LoL

i've never really paid attention to Major Nelson (god what a terrible name to use), but i've been watching some interviews lately and stuff... so umm... why have people been coming to him for information and treated him as some sort of an important figure in the gaming industry the past few years? guy comes off as slimy as fuck, everything that comes out of his mouth is deceptive and misleading, on purpose even.

kinda off-topic, sorry lol.

Come on now. MS is smart. There would be web sites selling rights to games where you could play games during certain time slots for $6

Far, far, far too many people.

Some of these same people would then rail against the specter of used games in the same breath.

Astonishing, really.

And Microsoft was happy to deceive the press and in effect the people with this policy. There were no corrections or statements about the 60 minute trials. They fucking lied to everyone and let the press continue to spread the lie.

Trust me on this.

as long as the current management is at the helm, those shenanigans WILL COME BACK.
This is why I think it depends on WHY they abandoned it, if it's just backlash they absolutely will try again, if it's due to the logistics biting them on the ass... they'll wait until conditions are favorable if they ever are. Either way it's why the XB1's going to be an exclusives only console for me if I got it, just want to play the likes of D4, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive if they're good.

It's called CheapAssGamer. lol
People still do it with PS3 shares even though it's limited to two people.

Would have still been a nice feature. I was more excited for ability to play my games without the disc.

Now I'm going to have to double dip.

I'm already getting two copies of Destiny. One for my PS4 (gotta have that exclusive content) and another for my One (which will be my primary console). Now I'm going to have to buy the digital version on Xbox One, so I can keep my game disc in pristine condition.

That's $180.

Then you know stores are going to have exclusive bonuses and collector's editions. Gotta get those too.

Uhh.... WHAT.
Is this a real post?

sorry for the ignorance, but who orwhat is CBOAT and why his confirmation basically makes this news true?

CBOAT has continued to post a lot of important Xbox One information in a cryptic way so as to make it harder for search engines to find and even less likely for news site to steal the info and report on it. Also to disguise any chance of identifying him through a writing style.

Information has included game reveals, the DRM policy specifics, CPU/GPU speed/yield issues, and a whole host of other things that have all 100% came true, in spite of people challenging him.

"your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games."

After microsoft regrouped and try to spin the need for online check-ins and always online this quote was pretty common on a lot of sites and from multiple PR reps and outlets. Message was still messy but this line was still consistent.

When you see a consistent line repeated you know its been vetted by lawyers, because promoting unlimited access and denying it is a legal headache waiting to happen.

Thats not even a feature anyone in their right mind would tout when it is on playstation for everybody with a PS+ account for certain games

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
An upper class console made by upper class people, suck it plebs.

Eh? Internet service quality is largely down to luck. Some of the shittiest areas of L.A. have FiOS while some of the nicest areas of San Diego are stuck with whatever comparatively-sluggish, aggressively-capped bullshit their local telcos offer.

Microsoft had 2 choices, piss off everyone even more when the Family Sharing Plan that sounded so good on paper, was revealed to only be a 15 to 60 minute demo, or just scrap everything altogether. They knew they couldn't reveal the Family Sharing as it was really constructed, especially since most of the information they gave never alluded to, hinted at, or mentioned a one hour limit on family shared games.

The Family Sharing plan was presented as an alternative to their DRM schemes. It was supposed to make you think "Wow, this DRM really sucks, but family sharing more than makes up for it, what a great feature!" Except, the Family Sharing wasn't a great feature, it was actually a pretty shitty feature.

I have to give Microsoft Credit, they are doing things that NOBODY predicted they would do. They are scraping their whole DRM and Used Game schemes they had built straight into their system, and replacing it with a page out of Sony's playbook, to simply implement nothing.

I still look at all the man hours, all the time, all the engineer work and coding to set up their "Family Sharing" plan, to set up the network and infrastructure to allow partner stores to trade in used Xbone Games, the system that was set up to detect whether you owned a game or not, the software that was built to allow you to give a game to a friend of 30 days. This is all some pretty complicated shit, that took hundreds of thousands of hours to create and probably millions of dollars to build.

Now, here is Microsoft Today, standing on a pile of rubble that once was their future of Console Gaming, the future of DRM and Used Games. I have to think the damage is already done.

Next, they will scrap Kinect from the box, lower the price to $399, and all the other thousands of hours built into the TV Interface side and "Xbox Go Home" will be tossed out the window as well. Just watch!!!

You can play the game an unlimted amount of times from the start for 1 hour.

This is the gift that keeps giving, can't wait for the eventual book about this mess

I want to know who his sources are, because he's been wrong about basically everything.

As I have said before, he seems to work like a chameleon changing his colors to match whatever Microsoft's position is on an issue.

pretty typical of those fishing for a job at ms

I still find funny the people that wants to support Microsoft, knowing now their best card was nothing more than a 60 min demo.Next gen will be glorious as Microsoft will be back to their original plans for DRM, I am almost sure they will, and it will be an disaster.

Seriously, did people really think Microsoft would've let you share your shit with ten friends?

That was Major Nelson's statements. They acted like they don't have to be your "family." And only mentioned being able to play someone else's library.

There was no mention of it only being a 60 minute trial.

I won't blame consumers for being deceived by Microsoft. It's a scummy thing for them to do.

Something doesn't make sense here, though. Now that the Xbox One supposedly has no more DRM, what's the point in removing such a feature? It's just a one hour demo, not the full game.

publishers may or may not have been all that wild about giving unrestricted access to all of their games for an hour. It's possible licensing agreements or payment arrangements to do so may have to have been renegotiated, now that the entire DRM scam has gone tits up.

as for "not necessary", multiplayer being locked behind a paywall for Gold didn't make sense either- but companies will charge or paywall anything they can possibly get away with.

Reading this stuff, with a new disastrous tidbit every day, for the past few weeks is just mind-blowing. I've always said I enjoy a huge corporate failure but this is the most toxic (and most entertaining) PR and the most amateurish, confused messaging I've seen for a huge product launch in my entire life. It's almost like the people selling the Xbox One aren't even on the same page with what it can actually do, even now.

It just keeps going on, and on, to the point where I'm questioning whether everyone at this company has completely lost their mind. Not in a million years would I have seen this level of fail coming before their first conference. Nearly everything has gone wrong so far, ending in an exasperated abandonment of every single policy they built - presumably over many years - for this thing. Insanity!

I wonder what's next...

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I fucking love how stuff being confirmed by CBOAT is an actual thing on GAF.

So the REAL reason was because family share blew up so out of fucking control they had no choice but to pull the plug. lmao fucking hell.

It honestly makes perfect sense now. There is NO reason to get rid of family share. So they sugar coat it, in order to get rid of drm and always online they had to turn off family share. Fuck off MS. This revelation could have been the nail in the coffin for without a doubt the most epic PR fails in electronics history.

Not just Xbone news either, he's been posting accurate leaks for close to 10 years now. He leaked that the 360 would have a HDD-less SKU.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
It being nothing but demoes is lame. I do wonder if the reason it was always so vague was talks to increase/change what it was. That seemed to be the case with a lot of the DRM, as it WAS originally always online before orth, then it was 24 hours because of the freakout. Then a continued shitstorm dropped it entirely. It's hard to get a concrete look at what the xbox one would have turned out like as it seemed to be tweaked constantly.

I can totally see why they dropped this "feature" now. What's the point of letting someone demo your game for 60 minutes, when you could just hand them the disc instead for an unlimited amount of playtime?

This really was one of the few features I was for, but seriously, 60 minutes? Yeah, no.

Hey, look, it's on pastebin and its written with some degree of competence, it must be true.

Jesus, you again? We believe it because our Microsoft inside said it to be true and he's been right about everything else he's leaked. But by all means, continue to ignore any bad news about the Xbone. You're such an apologist.
