Mario Kart 8 Announced For Wii U

Yeah, no course in any Mario Kart game gets me quite in the zone like Toad's Turnpike. Constantly drifting between and around cars, knowing when to slow down or when to use a certain power up, I think it's the most fun level in any kart racer I've played. Actually takes a consistent effort just to stay in good position.

Is it that level where there are several ways to get through the course?

I'll take some reworking of the blue shell. That'd be great. Maybe improve AI instead of rubber banding them since a lot of people hate that or something.

God no, that would make the game boring, having rubber banding in makes me want to be on my toes instead of like Super Mario Kart where I.m one lap ahead and there is no challenge

No, that id Yoshi's Valley, the one woth the giant egg and three different ways to get through it.
The circuit that member is referring is the one with lots of trucks and cars in a city with a small space of road at night.

Oh yeah, that horrible horrible level where there almost constant slowdowns, glad that it got better with the Ram upgrade.

Oh does anyone remember this little gem? :D

What is rubber banding? (I've played a hell of alot of MK, I probably know what it is I just don't know the term).
No matter how fast or good you play you can never get too far ahead as the game will have the AI boost up(or I believe in some games straight up teleport) quicker than possible to close the distance. That's why you rarely can lap ai players.

Ah right, thanks. Don't really understand how the words `rubber banding` relate to that at all though ha! In other games rubber banding is where a player model gets stretched out of all proportions due to glitches :p

Hold a rubber band and stretch one end i.e. move that end away from the other end. Let go of the stationary end..what happens?

Most obvious marip kart rubber banding has to be in the n64 game, you can triple mushroom boost and see the cpu behind you still catching up without doing anything, it's terrible.

Yeah, rubber banding was criminal in Mario Kart 64.
Peach was a bitch. A real pain in the ass in that game.

The single best thing is that because of how much of that game I've played, I can almost tell you depending on which character you picked which two characters would chase you down hardest. Nothing like being Yoshi and having Peach and Toad come after you.

In addition to Toad's Turnpike, THIS mutherfcker better make it to the retro course this time:

My favorite MK course ever!

Yoshi Valley was way too good man. Nothing like intentionally taking bad paths because people would think of following you (It's the best path guys!) then just blitzing them with one of the two easy/fast routes.

Yoshi Valley and Royal Raceway NEED to be in MK8. Not only are they fantastic tracks, they are going to look amazing redone!

Speaking of retro rainbow roads, I would love for rainbow road in double dash to be in this and by extension mushroom city too. Driving above mushroom city would look so nice.

Is it just me or does it look like there isn't a very good sense of speed in this. Just watched a vid of waluigi racing and it looked kinda slow.

Glad to see people are liking Yoshi Valley. I always thought I was the only one since no one ever mentions it and the fact that Nintendo never included it in any of the retro tracks in the recent games. Could also be a limitations thing where they can't track placements....they could always just use the ?'s :)

Oh and please include MK7's Rainbow Road WITH the option to loop the entire course for more than a single lap! :D

It's clearly at 50cc (at least that's what I feel). It's all nerfed for the demo anyways.

Yeah the demo was locked at 50 cc (or so said the rep when questioned), so I would figure this game will be just as fast as previous versions.

Baby Park needs to be in it.
They already brought it back for Mario Kart DS so it is highly unlikely

please have a ghost valley inspired course!

I really hope Broken Pier makes its way to MK8

Reps confirmed it was a 50cc demo

I have to say that despite my last two Mario Karts being Double Dash & Mario Kart DS, I'm a huge Mario Kart fan, and Mario Kart 8 is the most I've been graphically impressed with one since Mario Kart 64.

If there was ever a reason to pick up a Nintendo console again, it would be just for this, it looks so amazing - I'd love to see the final tracklisting whenever that happens to see which tracks get remade as well.

Anyone EXTREMELY reminded of Sugar Rush from Wreck it Ralph by the candy course?

Hey people wanted a proper Sugar Rush game, looks like Nintendo gave us just that in a single course. :p

I haven't checked through the whole thread, but have any retro courses besides Piranha Plant Slide and Music Park been confirmed?

Maturity, bitches.
No it hasn't, only in fan mods. Also, I think they should do more than 16 retro tracks this time, with some repeats, like Waluigi Pinball.

I love Waluigi Pinball but we got that in the last game. Some tracks haven't had a chance in the spotlight yet. Poor Super Circuit gets the worst of it.

Apart from the Super ones in Mario Kart Super Circuit for GBA, has any retro track returned 2 times?

Wait, wasnt that one in Mario Kart DS already?

Thats strange, I remember it in the DS game. May be wrong.

No Retro course has appeared twice and like I said earlier, they probably never will.
(Unless of course for fan service)
Nintendo has 72 unused retro courses to choose from for Mario Kart 8 (69 if you don't count those already confirmed). With every new game, they're adding 16 new courses eligible for Retro courses so they don't really need to repeat tracks.

And about Yoshi's Valley, well yeah, you're wrong. It hasn't appeared in any Mario Kart game as a retro track yet.

I wonder if they are going to go ahead and alter any of the classic tracks to add in the antigravity stuff. On the one hand, this would be really cool as it'd let you look at old Mario Kart tracks from new perspectives, and it'd help the entirety of the game feel more fresh I think. On the other hand, it might mess with some of the perfection of the classic courses, which have all been finely tuned already.

I guess I'd like to see them try to do it anyway. It would really help the game stand out.

I hope they let the AI players finish the race properly instead of just finishing in the positions they're in when you finish. If its a close grand prix overall Its good to be able to take them out at the end of the race to increase the gap in the overall standings.

Didn't they slightly alter the classic courses in mario kart 7 to add glider sections? I can see them doing the same thing for this game too.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and

So what happens if you finish with a considerable lead? Do you have to wait the whole time for the CPU to end their last lap?
