DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

I don't know what is is but I just keep getting more and more excited over this game. At first I was a little bummed out from some of the e3 talk, but now the game is my most anticipated title. Frick I can't wait!

It seems like there isn't a lot of high-quality, direct-feed footage of this game. It makes it really difficult to see how it looks. From that youtube video, it looks pretty solid, but it's just really hard to tell.

Hey Driveclub devs: if you're not going to use the touch pad for anything, might I suggest swiping left/right for music selection?

This sounds like a pretty cool idea.

Just noticed in that video, during the menu sequences and pre/post-race screens that they played the song used in the E3 trailer... so I'm guessing they could do something similar with PGR4 where they commission a song from a proper electronic artist (PGR4 had The Prodigy, this particular song for DC is by Hybrid) and use various breakdowns/stripped-down parts of the track for various parts of the menus.

Of course, quite possibly completely wrong, but I wouldn't put it past them given that they seem to be taking a lot of design cues from PGR, it's not unlikely.

STILL no PGR tag? The mods are trolling you, mate.

Well i really dont understand how they cam say this game is 35% finished?? They needed 20 months for 35% and they' ll finish the rest 65% in 4 month?

And why the f.. Looks this game so much worse than forza?? We have 40% more power in ps4 than xbone... And this game is stuttering under 30 fps with those visuals, where forza looks so great and has 1080/60fps...
Sorry english is not my frst language and i was really looking for this game. I am just really dissapointed

The builds they prep for E3 are usually behind from where they are in development when the actual E3 event happens. What we saw was 35% complete, but that doesn't mean their actual development was at 35% at that moment.

I wonder if a lot of it is because Evo are probably working with either an entirely new engine or a heavily modified (to be suitable for delivering a lifelike environment, rather than the exaggerated ones in Motorstorm) one, whereas T10 are likely using an obviously upgraded and more advanced, but still very similar engine to what was used for FM4. So naturally, T10 would be able to get something out relatively quickly compared to Evo.

Since Rushy linked this thread, here's a summary of the questions he's answered so far:

Q Can you drive in a third person camera?
A Yes.

Q Is Driveclub a sim or an arcade racer?
A Both. [Delusi's note: don't compare this to Forza then, they're probably aiming more towards the PGR or GRID market.]

Q When did development start?
A After Motorstorm Apocalypse shipped (after spring 2011)

Q How many people work at Evolution?
A Over 120. (And they're hiring.)

i don't consider myself a graphics whore but my god after watching all the videos available for this you cant help but think that this game looks horrible for a next gen title, GT6 looks better and its running on a 7 year old hardware at double the frame rate, not a good way to showcase your new console capabilities sony, this game should be delayed for a shit load amount of extra work if they want to have any chance of this becoming a franchise

Yeah, I don't get those hyping the game up to be some graphical beast. It looks a PS3 game. I'm not impressed.
It's Evolution. Prerelease builds of the Motor storm franchise had similar issues and the final release of all three PS3 Motor storm games were some of the best looking titles of last generation.

Swiping to change tracks sounds like a great idea. See it's small useful stuff like that which devs need to think of, no need for overly gimmicky stuff.

Q: Can you drive with a manual gearbox? I didn't see any gears or revs in the UI of the videos I watched.

Q: Can Evolution promise there's no Motorstorm Apocalypse like story with the motion comics? I just picked Apocalypse up a few days ago and while the tracks themselves are gobsmackingly phenomenal, the surrounding package of the campaign is... well... Just please never do that again.

Q: Is splitscreen multiplayer available and how many players can play splitscreen? Online splitscreen possible?
Pacific Rift 4 player splitscreen was one of the greatest things, don't disappoint us Evolution ;)

Funny thing NFSW on vita did that. 1 swipe for music change and swipe right to left to right shuffles.

Yes and I liked it. One of the better backtouch implementations.

I ll paste my post from the "accessories" topic. People might be interested.

Seems like Sony's policy regarding wheels is still unclear.

Here is what Paul Rustchynsky (design director at Evolution studios) says about wheels on twitter (if someone can explain me how to copy

Addnan ‏@AddnanC 20 Jun
@Rushy33 Is the Logitech Driving Force GT compatible with Driveclub? ie the official Gran Turismo 5 wheel.

Paul Rustchynsky ‏@Rushy33 20 Jun
@AddnanC We're going to try and support as many wheels as we can that are compatible with the PS4.

Sam ‏@cassiusclay99 22 Jun
@Rushy33 @AddnanC Fanatec CSR elite please. Best wheel on the market, by far. And GT compatible.

Paul Rustchynsky ‏@Rushy33 9h
@cassiusclay99 @AddnanC It's a fantastic wheel. If the PS4 supports it we'll do our best to support it too
.

That is far from a confirmation that the wheels will work. Looks like he still does not know what Sony's policy will be, don't you think?

Manual gears are available, as is Semi Auto.

Motion Comics will not be making an appearance ;)
Thank you. Was a little worried this title might be far too much on the arcade side for my tastes, but its looking good. Hype back to maximum :)

And for any spirits I may have dashed with those Motorstorm Apocalypse cinematics, understand that once you loaded up a match proper you got to experience stuff like this.

That track never ceases to amaze me. In hood cam its fucking insanity at high speed.

I see a wink there... it's going to be FMV, isn't it? ;)

Any chance you can fill us in on Ged Talbot's influence/role in the game, or what (if any) inspiration has been taken from PGR? I'm surprised to have not seen him doing any promotional work at all... I guess maybe he'll be at Gamescom. Not that there's anything wrong with the current guys doing promo stuff, doing a great job!

I never got those cut-scenes in the PS+ version of the game. Maybe they cut them to save some space?

Wow... How haven't I got that game. Looks so awesome.
Love to idea of drivings cars through high-rise office buildings. Hope they get around to a sequel!

The closer to PGR the better. Outside of MS, PGR4 was the best racer I played this gen, and it was forever ago.

oh my god I need to play Motorstorm Apocalypse apparently

Do it. A truly excellent game, and by far the best of the "changing tracks/destruction" bunch. It's amazing the amount of shit that is going on at any given time in some of the races.

I haven't been following this game all that closely, but my understanding so far is that despite being an early build shown at E3, this game is still technically impressive(for a next-gen release) correct?

Some people think it is, others think it isn't. I'm in the former camp because I can appreciate a lot of the things that are being done dynamically, but with the inevitable comparison to FM5, others believe it's "PS3 quality".

What are some of the dynamic qualities of FM5 if any?

eeeeeehhhhh... i definitely acknowledge the pre-release Motorstorm builds, but best looking titles of last gen is a stretch. I looooved the way they looked, but they all had some fairly major graphical issues. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what we're seeing here - Evolution prioritizes "general impression" over specifics, hence why we're seeing pop up and shaggy lighting.

I'd reeeeaally like to see the game run at 60fps though. This is next gen guys - if Dirt 3 can look like it looks at 30 fps, there is no fucking reason your game can't run at 60, certainly the PS4 specs are not your bottleneck.

Shadows and reflections on the cars from what I could tell were all legit (I don't think the reflections were a skybox... shadows had a mighty low resolution and framerate, though) but everything seems to indicate that the track shadows are baked. That's about all I know as far as graphical components in racing games that can be considered "dynamic" or "pre-baked", but I'm sure there are plenty of others. After all, I'm far from being an expert on such things.

Go buy it asap man. It's amazing. I believe there's around 40 tracks and almost all of them have something completely bonkers going on from falling skyscrapers to tornadoes, to bridges collapsing etc.

I think it's one of the games that are permanently free on PS+ as well? As in, not a monthly deal.

Not anymore, it was free for EU up until E3 week I think. Yearly games have changed now.

I played Motorstorm Apocalypse in Eurogamer expo a long time ago now in 3D and was wowed then, but unfortunately by the time I got round to playing it just a few days ago I had been playing on PC for so long that it just looked crap :/ Felt good though.
