Just like i thought //Build is for windows developers something like XNA will be announced at an GDC. Probably next year or so given how they need all the man power to improve the dev tools.
you forgot to read that part i assume...
Doesn't make sense to call these smaller games Xbox games even on W8 when Xbox itself won't support them.
Why? This keynote was to usher in changes to Windows. Them saying anything about Xbox One was always going to be about connected devices, nothing more. Also, this isnt focused on developing just games.

Nope. He made it clear that Windows is one segment you can push apps to, and Xbox is something else entirely.
They would have made it very, very clear that you can publish Xbox games if that were the case.

Clearly you don't know much about business.
I suppose it is to stop Xbox Games Marketplace a clusterfuck of self published shit like the IOS app store.
I bet they will just cherry pick the best games and enable developers to go live on Xbox
Heh Sony's lead is slowly becoming smaller and smaller.
GAF expect every MS' keynote to be Xbox One about, or it's disappointing. Come on!
That was always the case, it just allows people to publish without having to go through publisher, it was never going to be 100s of fart apps like Android/IOS stores.
$100 cheaper, better first party studios, better console...nope.

I realise that, but isn't the choice to split Xbox/Windows down to prevent the fart apps or the sexy 90's CG lady dating sims of XBLIG from making their way to Xbox One?

You can still curate games to maintain quality control. Which is exactly what Sony is doing: allow self publishing for devs who have teams, money, and ready to roll with the bigger games.
This is a keynote for DEVELOPERS! As in, guys making games and apps for Windows devices. There couldn't be a more targeted audience for Xbox One publishing/dev news than this one.
Keynote over. They announced NOTHING for development on XB1 for indies. Absolutely nothing. And nothing tomorrow either since that'll be the keynote for cloud/office stuff.
I'm a bit angry right now.
Ok. So no real world on self publishing. But some sentences from Ballmer sounded like people can publish apps to whatever platform they want. Including Xbone.
Yes, I realise that, but I was specifically talking about the difference between Windows 8 apps and Xbox One apps.
nevermind, it seems I am talking about something else entirely.
Why? There are plenty of other devices that indies can flock to. Microsoft's loss, not yours.Keynote over. They announced NOTHING for development on XB1 for indies. Absolutely nothing. And nothing tomorrow either since that'll be the keynote for cloud/office stuff.

Well... in 20 minutes the following session starts:

Building games for Windows
Are the sessions covered online or are they just for attendees?

Games are by far the most popular (and most fun) category of apps on the Windows desktop and in the Windows Store. Whether youre a professional AAA developer already in the games business, creating a your first casual game on your own, or anywhere in between, this talk is for you! Youll get an overview of platform advances to help you build a successful game on Windows spanning hardware, APIs, developer tools, commerce, and more.
Are the sessions covered online or are they just for attendees?
They added the description for the session:
Maybe they drop something there or maybe someone will ask about this.
I think there does need to be a level of quality for digital stores on consoles. It would be fine if MS opened a "games lab" where consumers know it has a bunch of small apps and games that aren't quality tested. But I don't think it's right for something like, say, Forza 5 vying for position on the charts against four massage apps.
is there another day?
This is already a feature of the AMD GCN architecture using in Xbone and PS4. AMD refers to it as Partially Resident Textures (PRT) and claims texture sizes up to 32TB.
Slightly OT, but I heard that pointer events are changing in IE11. Not sure how this would affect in-development SG projects off the top of my head, but cool to see some updates nonetheless.Touch + mouse is easy considering that Windows 8's "pointer" events handle both automatically with little to no extra work for the developer.
I saw that as well. Tommorow it is then.Ok - so here is hope:
Steven Guggenheimer just hinted at something in the Build livestream for tomorrow. Quote from memory:
Person A: "What about XNA?"
Person B: "We will talk about games tomorrow at the keynote - I won't say XNA. We will have something that you will like... let's tease it that way"
he is talking about the keynote tomorrow. One of the points of the Agenda is "tools, tools, tools"

Rewind to 02:10:00 to hear it.
As per the page, you'll be able to watch it 24-48 hours after it's finished. If they announce something related to XB1 I'm sure we'll hear it before then.
Probably just talks about how desktop apps can be listed in the store with a link to where to download it.I saw that as well. Tommorow it is then.
I'm also intrested in top AAA games coming to windows store. Maybe they will remove GFWL(which is dead) and use the windows store instead.
Bringing Desktop PC games to Windows Store:

Probably just talks about how desktop apps can be listed in the store with a link to where to download it.
Would they really do a whole presentation to tell you how to put it in the store...has to be a bit more than that.
Oh well MS disappoints once again. I'm numb to it all by now.
Can we get a title change?
subjective.
Nah it's not over yet. See the above posts. I would update the original post with the info about something being announced during tomorrow's keynote however.
Ooh no believe me they have that its even an level 200 course.
So not even that hard those are more orientation courses. At least if the ratings are the same as they use with MS techdays.
Calm down GK. If you don't understand what subjective means then don't try to post about it.No, no it really isn't. You can prefer Halo and Fable to Sony's games but Microsoft studios can't even touch Sony or Nintendo.
