The platform speculation is really interesting. It may be selfish but I just don't want it to be a 3ds title or any handheld. Graphics aren't important, I understand, but with better specs comes a lot of great things. Look at the overall production difference between DQ8 and DQ9. Both were great games doing amazing things with the hardware they were on but man did the PS2 allow for more. If I remember right Persona 4 was a very late game on the PS2... maybe Persona 3 will be current gen?

I want Persona 5 to be as different from Persona 4, as 4 was from 3. Please, Atlus, don't run the characters/setting/tone into the ground. The underlying mechanics will probably be similar to 4, but the chassis around it should really be all new. Persona should not become stagnant; the series is always at its best when creating something new.

It'll probably be like Persona 4-2 considering how Persona 4 Arena sets it up so obviously.

Well, we can be sure it'd be some modern setting with Japanese high school students at the very least, right? I have faith that they'd make it different enough to intrigue old and new fans... I mean I'm still wondering just how certain things from that were present in P3/P4 will manifest themselves in P5. Will Personas come out of phones or something? Will the Velvet Room be in a restroom or private jet of some sort? What will the assistant's name be? How will they get to the 'other world' and what sort of mysteries will they be attempting to solve?"

Jintor mentions social media... I can see them getting sucked into another world from being addicted to being 'connected' all the time what with people being attached to their phones nowadays, lol.

A company like this is going to go where money is at. I suspect at least cross gen but knowing Japanese companies, a PS4 version would just be a PS3 version but with greater fidelity. Not that it's a bad thing.

I'm kinda hoping they announce two games. Persona 4-2 and Persona 5.

We would get the best of both worlds, a continuation with the cast we love, and a whole new one with a stand alone story. Not going to happen though :(

I'm just saying there should be a difference between Persona 5 and Persona 4-2. That's all I'm asking for, really. Well that, and the super stylish presentation that they honed in 3 and 4.

Why is a 4-2 being mentioned? Are there fears that 5 will just end up the sameish as 4?

Why's that? Persona 4 Arena certainly seems to be setting up something with the old cast

Hashino said that Persona 4 had barely any references to Persona 3 because the team didn't want to assume assume that players of Persona 4 had played Persona 3. I imagine that applies two-fold for a fighting game spinoff.

The only links I can imagine carrying over are the Elizabeth plotline and the true culprit plotline. I really don't think it will be a direct continuation.

I wasn't written by the Persona team apparently. Plus, Dantis hates the game.

Also this.

Well that was dumb.

Never had to, I could import. That's the huge difference to me.

Of course. But that's different from suggesting that EU still doesn't get shafted aside from P4A/SMTIV. Not everyone went through the process of buying magic keys or swap discs just so they could play SMTIII or Persona 3/4 earlier.

It was obvious they are gearing up for a reveal after they did Golden and the fighting game, companies do this often, they release spin offs and re releases to build some momentum and remind people of a specific series.

I still have not played Persona 4, i have it wrapped up right here, bought it for 5 euros new, not sure what the hell i am doing, i should give it a chance

Success? :lol
Well, it did sell through 80% of its shipment in its first week. About 188k units sold, according to Media Create. Persona 4 Golden, on the other hand, sold about 137k in its first week according to Media Create, and about 260k units in Japan overall. So not bad for a handheld with a much smaller install base than the 3DS. PS3/Vita is my prediction for P5.

I better see them register Catherine2.jp next.

Can't it be both

:D

I just checked persona4.jp and persona4.com and it doesn't look like either of those websites are in use. Were they used when the games were announced? I don't remember.

Sold 250k as of last week of June. Sold through 80% of its shipment opening week.

Aint that considered a big success for an Atlus title?

They're great numbers, but they'll be expecting waaaaaaay more from P5.

SMT4 will likely sell really low in the West. Persona 5 on the other hand will probably sell rather well.
