Three Vita games were announced for localization just yesterday.

I don't think that's what they were talking about since the Vita is pretty well supported in Japan, just not at all in the West outside of the indies.

Japan really has quite a few Vita titles coming up (not necessarily 'big' titles though like on the 3DS), but none of them are system sellers that will make people want a Vita. I think the last one that the Vita had was Soul Sacrifice which was months ago.

I guess the biggest problem is that the PSP is/was HUGE in Japan not too long ago, so a lot of Vita games end up being PSP/Vita and the PSP is essentially the Vita's worst enemy at this point.

Though I´m looking forward to a new Persona regardless. I do sincerely hope it´s not a another crummy looking handheld title. I really dislike what happened to SMT4. Though granted, I guess wanting a worthy sequel to Nocturne is unrealistic.

There's nothing wrong with SMT4 though.

Looks-wise? It looks cheap (particularly the battles), the art direction is off (about as big a downgrade from SMT3 as you could get), and some of the new designs are downright embarrassing.

It's not the 3DS' fault though, I don't think. They just dropped the ball visually.

Yep. You should. P4 is one of the finest games of all time.

Of all time........ /Kanye

The level of content and online features in Golden are amazing and it handles some fairly big topics really well. After P4G and Catherine I'm really excited about P5.

There is nothing wrong with 2D battles. More demons is a good thing.

The only thing that is "wrong", is making a new mainline entry while not directly improving on the last entry.

It doesn't make SMT4 any less of an awesome game but as a sequel to Nocturne, it's not exactly what one would expect.

If they pull the same stunt with Persona, I don't know how I'm going to feel.

I hope you're happy, I spent 20 minutes gathering data to prove this post false.
(Most numbers Media Create, used 2 sets of famitsu numbers when I couldn't find MC numbers)

Persona 3: 210319 (Famitsu)
Persona 3 FES: 165471 (Famitsu)
P3: FES (Best): 20043 (MC)
Persona 3 Portable: 232344 (MC)
P3P Best: 109,832 (MC)

Persona 3 + FES Total = 395,833
P3P total = 342,176
Difference = 53,657

Persona 4: 335,839 (MC)
P4 Best: 96,038 (MC)
Persona 4 Golden: 232,639 (MC)

P4 Total = 431,877
P4G = 232,639
Difference = 199,236

So no, P4G didn't nearly sell more relatively or even absolutely (yet) more than P3P.

I don't think this is a fair comparison. You are not considering P4G digital sales. The Vita is perhaps the console with the highest ratio of digital sales (don't know about other consoles but Jack Tretton said on E3 that Vita game sales are almost 60% digital). Sadly there is no way to know about them unless Sony or Atlus tell. But I believe the actual sales of P4G might be substantially higher than what retail numbers show.

Yes, and I also realize if they gave it a bigger budget, it'd hurt more overall. Persona is where the money has gone for the most part.

Also, for reference, I can't believe I'm being asked this question.

Sorry, but I can't understand why a fan wants a worse entry than the previous one (technically)...

yeah there's nothing wrong with them, it's the ugly contrast between the 3D overworld and the battles that bugs me.
I agree. The game has terrible clashing in everu facet of its design. Kaneko, Doi, and Kamen Rider artist designs. 3D exploration and 2D battles. Hard at the beginning, easy at the end(hearsay). The game even has both 2D and 3D NPCs.

Like I care about models when the battles in SMTIV look lightning fast.

Don't get me wrong, Nocturne already has one of the fastest battle systems in JRPGs but why settle for fastest when we can have super fastest?

It's ok doe, you'll probably tell me you like 3D models because "oh it's for the atmosphere" or some crap unpractical reason like that.

I'm actually not a huge tech person on games, honestly. I even own a PC I built on my own, and graphics are still not something I'm omgcrazy about. I just want a fun game. Though if you want me to have a game with less demons with a limited set of move animations vs a game with much more varied demon selection and lesser graphical look tradeoff, I'll take the latter. It looks great to me and friends that have played it are praising it highly. So I'm fine. Also I kinda can't get too much into first person dungeon exploring, but like first person battles. So this combines 3D dungeon exploration and first person battles, hooray!

m holding out for a 3ds release they been giving alot of ninty love

Yet they still put Persona 4 Golden on the Vita after years of sticking (SMT) games on the DS/3DS. I don't think the 3DS fits Persona anyway.

Persona 5's portable release will probably be Vita-only too, tbh.

I really can't believe so many people hate the 2D battles thing. It actually surprises me that I'm not phased at all by it.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Did I miss the "Persona isn't really SMT" arguments yet, or is that something to look forward to tonight?

I see we're headfirst into "I hate 2D battles" and I KNOW we already had the "I hope this isn't on portables" bit. I think this is probably my favorite part of a Persona and/or SMT discussion.

I like nice graphics but a mechanics-heavy game like SMT4 doesn't need them. Everything that made Nocturne stand apart from other PS2 RPG's is why I want the next game in the series: a strong battle system, a high level of customization and potential, and a high difficulty bar. By the twentieth hour, any benefit of the 3D graphics is gone for me because I'm playing on a more abstract level.

It is probably people who are used to Persona 3/Persona 4 that aren't big fans of the 2D battles. I guess it just feels cheap to people?

I think you could argue that people who like SMT may not like Persona that much and vice-versa. (ESPECIALLY vice-versa)

And come on, Persona 5 being on a portable in its first iteration would be like Valkyria Chronicles' sequels getting dumped on the PSP.

Good.

And this is why Atlus just may have one of the worst fanbases in historeh.

Why fight other companies' fanbases when we can fight each other?!?!?!

Oh, so I'm just in time to the party, after all!

I understand that there are definitely some who like one series and despise the other, I just find it amusing that there's such vitriol.

And if P5 was on the PSP, I'd agree with you, honestly. For me, personally, the Vita and 3DS are finally competent enough systems in terms of visual and (especially) audio capabilities that I'd be fine with P5 on portables. I totally get both sides' arguments, but again, I find it amusing how quickly the discussion turns to this stuff. And how mad people get.

Fingers crossed for 3DS, Wii U would be even better but yeah, not happening. :(

I mean Atlus promised us Persona for 3DS, and they've delivered every other game shown on the E3 2010 list IIRC, and more.

Wonder if they could do it like this; announce both Persona 5, AND Persona 3 for 3DS.

Persona 3 for this year for the movie and to get the audience ready, and then Persona 5 next year.
