Steam Sale - (Overlooked) Indie Game Deals Discussion Thread

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Updated for the Winter Sale 2013

[NO CARD OR GENERAL STEAM TALK] - Visit the main Steam summer sale thread for that: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737014

Hey guys,

Disclaimer: Potentially create a list with the games you are interested in, but WAIT UNTIL THE LAST SALE DAY before buying if they arent currently a flash or daily deal. Many of the slightly bigger Indies have a good chance of getting a daily or flash deal.

I talked to Salsa about it and without trying to steal any thunder from the main thread, some will probably appreciate a thread with short write ups and a crew of guys mainly to ask for the games that most people didnt play or dont pay attention to. This way it should also be easier to follow the discussion of certain games if its not buried under a few dozen posts of card or talk. I currently include the daily/flash deals in the OP, but we'll start filling in the currently blank list of other worthy non-daily deal Indie purchases from post 2 onward.

This is a community WIP to make sure we have this thread up now, and dont need to wait until the end of the sale. I'd appreciate if you could mention the ones you feel strongly about in here in the exact same format as the other entries and I'll add them to the OP if I didnt already, meaning (use / instead of \, and dont use the code tag)

Code:
[b]Gamename[\b] - Price (XX% off)
[quote][img]Screenshot[\img]
[URL="Link"]Link[\URL]

Short 2-3 sentence description why people should check it out.[\quote]
I reserve the right not to include troll entries (Looking at you, Bad Rats).

Also, if you want even MORE Indies (mainly Desura/unaffiliated), check the current monthly Indie thread:

Other Indie Deals A-D:

1000 Amps - $2,49 (50% off)
TNYwev0.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/205690

Imagine if you will, a metroidvania. But instead of enemies, there are platforming puzzles. Top it off with a nice zen feeling art style. That's 1000 Amps.

Achron - $6,99 (65% off)
ZYvodFJ.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/109700/

Take this recommendation with a grain of salt. Achron is not a really a good RTS game per se, although its something diehard RTS fans should give a try to experience something that no other game in the genre brings to the table - Time Travel (in MP even). What you'll need to learn is how to counteract an attack on a battle that you already won before, while trying to defend a factory by using a group of units from that factory that had not yet been produced. Trying to learn this game deep fried my brain. A purchase gives you TWO copies, so you can deep fry a friends brain with the same purchase!

AI War - $2,49 (75% off), $4,24 for the whole collection.
gy8aVVj.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/40400/

It's a cool game -- lots of unique ideas, but it can be a little too complicated for its own good. An interesting aspect is that you can sort of control the pace of the game. The AI mainly reacts to your moves, so if you don't do anything, the difficulty ramp-up is slow. So if you want to take your time, you can almost treat it like a turn-based game. Unit count and ship type count is super huge, games can get into the tens of thousands of units. If that sounds interesting to you, I'd say it's worth a look. It's actually not super hard to pick up, but you'll want to read a bit outside the game because otherwise it's easy to miss some things.

Altitude- $2,49 (75% off)
altitude_game_screenshot_2.jpeg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/41300/

2d multiplayer dog fighting game. Tight controls and plenty planes and perks to unlock as you rank up. If death match isn't your thing there are other modes that this game offers as well.

Antichamber - $7,99 (60% off)
antichamber1.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/219890

Mindbending 3D portal-esque puzzle game that is described as "every aspect of it is created to bring players out of their comfort zone" and that "the biggest enemy you will be facing is yourself." This game won a myriad of awards, so are you prepared to check out what the fuss is about?

Atom Zombie Smasher - $2,49 (75% off)
ss_457187d4d7c8a585683678311a31c74ebc68e048.600x338.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/55040/

This is a clever little blend between the board game Pandemic (which ya'll should try) and a mini RTS game. Between missions you are presented with a world map where you monitor zombie outbreaks in various regions. In this screen you get a terrible feeling of dread as zombie outbreaks continue to spawn and intensify across the map as you try as best as you can to beat them back. You do so by launching missions in individual regions. In a mission you control 4-5 units in a very simplistic city view. Each unit has very specific functions (snipers sit in one location and cover arcs of fire, infantry roam the streets killing zombies, roadblocks cut off street sections) and you use them all to try to eliminate zombies and rescue humans with your helicopter. In each mission you are often limited in the types of troops that you are allowed to bring, so you can't keep rolling out the same tactics mission after mission. It's a very clever game that always impresses me with how it makes use of limited graphics to create a game that both requires fast reflexes, tactical planning, and conveys a solid apocalyptic feel as you play.

Audiosurf - $1,99 (-80% off)
8ds4gV5.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12900/

Action Puzzle that has the difficult, form, velocity changes according to the music you choose to it play.

Avadon: The Black Fortress - $1,99 (80% off)
TBhfaPm.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/112100/

Not the best Spiderweb RPG (the developer) but one of the few "modern" games which dont require you to play in a 640*480 window. Its a very involved classic RPG, which requires a lot of reading and planning in combat situations. If you want an easy entry into the Spiderweb games, while still having an 80 hour classic RPG epoch to explore, this game should be high up on your wish list.

Aztaka - $4,99 (50% off)
Zxvmmmg.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/37100/

A sidescrolling Action RPG, think a side scrolling Diablo game lite, including loot, smaller puzzles and snazzy fighting skills. Loved the gameplay of the demo, certainly worth $2,49. There is a free demo you can check out too.

Ballpoint Universe - Infinite - $1.99 (50% off)
hYthuRI.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/259390/
Mix of platformer and Shooter with an interesting artstyle.

Bastion - $8,99 (40% off)
ss_d158b1b4ece3a362c7d8acc6168ad14de00e64ba.1920x1080.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/107100

After buying this at Christmas 2011 and not feeling it after the first few levels thought I'd give it another go and boy am I glad. Pretty much have been sucked in by the slowly evolving story, beautiful art style and aurally pleasing soundtrack. A slow starter but once it gets going is really hard to put down.

Beat Hazard - $2.09 (70% off)
jvPO0kI.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/49600

Seizure inducing SHMUP where your music influences the gameplay. Perfect for those with a huge music library.

BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2 - $2,79 (80% off)
t5FvJ4b.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/218060/

One of the finest arcade music games around. Straying from the usual style of the Bit.Trip games, this game offers a bit of variation in your Bit Trip Collection. While Runner2 is a platformer, it has decidedly arcade sensibilities. Amongst other actions like hurtling over obstacles or dancing if you have a free moment, collectible items contribute points to an overall score. Prepare to crank up the difficulty and strive for perfection. You dont have a Bit.Trip collection yet? Well, then get started!

Blocks that matter - $2,49 (50% off)
Vx7xnOe.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/111800/

Unique, charming and balls-hard puzzle game. Its a really good game and highly recommended purchase at $1.24, but you should be prepared to spend a lot of time on each level figuring out the ins and outs of this devious puzzle game.

Cargo Commander - $2.49 (75% off)
ihQbfupF3v9CF.png

http://store.steampowered.com/app/220460/

Travel from sector to sector generated by any name of your choosing, activate your magnet to pull in drifting cargo containers, and hope for a good haul. A fun side scrolling arcade-y style of play with topsy-turvy gravity shifting areas. Can get repetitive if you play for too long, but makes for fun short bursts. Features a Demon's/Dark Souls style of messaging in the form of postcards; sometimes you find ones other players have written on, sometimes you find blank ones to send your own message out into space to be randomly found. Also, there's a dedicated "Fuck you!" button. See you on sector JEFFGOLDBLUM.

Cave Story+ - $6,99 (30% off)
zdhrkYW.jpg

store.steampowered.com/app/200900/

Originally developed by one man (Daisuke Amaya) Cave Story gained certain notoriety accross the internet. Released initially as a freeware the game received a "remake" by Nicalis but still retaining the classic visual and the amazing soundtrack.

Chivalry - $8.49 (66% off)
zg4TVXc.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/219640/?cc=us

Straightforward in approach yet exceedingly effective in delivery, it elevates the notion of melee combat past a last ditch combat maneuver and into a realm of medieval, online multiplayer bliss.

Clones - $2,49 (75% off)
file.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/72400/?snr=1_7_suggest__13

It's basically a fan made Lemmings sequel with online multiplayer. A must have for Lemmings fans.

Commandos 2 - $0,79 (80% off)
BfYtMIW.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/6830/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_2

A classic from 2002 (with a max resolution of 1024), which might as well be mentioned again for gamers who didnt play all that many PC games from 2002 and before. Simply excellent, a game in which you command a set of elite soldiers to maneuver difficult tasks in real time with multiple characters (Think isometric metal gear solid x3). It doesnt hold your hand and is often not gonna treat you nicely, but in the end you'll still not care. You keep pushing, you keep trying, you keep reloading. You need to, do you know why? Because the world is at stake, and you are the only one to save it, now get out there soldier, and come up with some decent plans to get rid of some Nazis.

Delve Deeper - $1,24 (75%)
crfr8W0.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/63800/

If we are just talking of Steam releases and the price its going for, this game is basically the definition of an underappreciated gem. Its basically a boardgame played it turns where its your task to secure as much gold as possible by placing board tiles, defeating enemies and being generally faster than your opponents. This game is playable in SP, but shines in local hotseat MP.

Diamond Dan - $1,24 (75% off)
HotF0Qe.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/70500/

Awesome puzzle platformer based more on quick reflexes than logic. You descend towers of ever shifting blocks to find a map at the bottom and escape. Sounds simple, but you can be crushed or thrown from the tower, and many of the blocks are traps such as water/spike pits, projectiles or enemies living inside the wall who will pull you to your death.

Divinity II: Developer's Cut - $4 (80% off)
Ofr1kZX.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/219780/

Easily among the best RPGs of recent years, no clue why it sort of was stuck as a sleeper hit for so long. Plenty of content, well thought out level design with rewarding exploration, challenging combat, YOU ARE A DRAGON, nice balance between serious story writing and humor and just overall a game that draws you in and is just a joy to play. Awesome game.

Don't Starve - $8,99 (75% off)
EMQtLcL.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/219740

A game about staying alive, and it won't be easy. If hunger doesn't kill you, insanity, poison, harsh weather or the mean shit that lurks at night will. Explore the map to find various terrains containing unique resources and creatures. Craft tools, weapons, equipment and structures. Develop new technologies. Maybe even build a base complete with buildings, decorations and self-sustaining farms. Basically, just do whatever it takes to stay alive.

Dungeon Hearts - $1.49 (50% off)
ZJDzNJs.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/229520/

Dungeon Hearts fuses the strategy and pattern matching of puzzle games with the kinetic pace of action games. Align magical runes as they flow along the Fatestream to attack, defend, and conjure magic in frenetic battles against a bestiary of fantastic creatures out to use those same runes against you.

Dungeons - $2,99 (80% off)
ss_f3d00d6b883ffa5da28e20150db5113ec227a787.1920x1080.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/57650/

I wouldn't say that this is my favorite game/series ever, but I do think that it is way too overlooked and discriminated against. What it all comes down to, is basically a kind of reverse tower defense. Not only in theme (since you are the badboy slaying the heroes), but also in mechanics. Your placed "towers" exist only to satisfy the needs of the ones you need to kill. The core concept revolves around killing "satisfied" heroes. The more needs of a hero you satisfied, the more "soul energy" he will give you after you killed him, which in turn can be used to use some Dungeon spells or buy items for your dungeon to get even MORE soul energy from those heroes. Lots of diversity and content, I really suggest giving the first one a shot. If you want more info, I wrote up an OT overe here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=482175

Dust: An Elysian Tail - $4,99 (66% off)
dustearlycombo7mbgoj4i.gif

http://store.steampowered.com/app/236090/?snr=1_7_15__13

A platforming and adventure game in the vein of Castlevania and Metroid with a surprisingly wonderful story and highly satisfying combat. The scenery is gorgeous too. Someone put it nicely into words: "There are games which you just need to see in motion yourself". I wasnt interested in this game much, but it looks GREAT in motion and plays better than what I'd expect judging from the screenshots. Definitely one of my surprise highlights last month in the indie thread.

Dyad - $3,74 (75% off)
WvyOfXZ.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/223450/

Abstract action game where you fly down a tunnel avoiding, collecting and shooting various things (each level is different). The sound and visuals are very well done, but the intricacies of the mechanics are what really impressed me.

Dungeons of Dredmor - $2,09 or $2,93 with all DLC (58% off)
ss_cf1956ce8543edb908afd987c26583f2e7e462da.600x338.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15933/

This is the first roguelike that has ever managed to really grab me (aside from Desktop Dungeons). It has a perfect blend of accessibility to ease you into the game with the same depth and difficulty that you would expect from a roguelike. The graphics are not stunning, but they are a good step up from most of the roguelike genre. As an extra bonus the game has been updated several times by the developer with reasonably priced DLC and the game has Steam Workshop support for user added content.

Other Indie Deals E-N:

Eador: Masters of the Broken World - Price $4,99 (75% off)
RwXClKb.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/232050/

A turn-based strategy and tactics game (think HoMM) set in a fantasy world. This game is just as a good, if not better than HoMM3 (i.e REALLY, REALLY good if you're a fan of the genre), it's basically a remake of Eador: Genesis, which only released on gog. The main issues are launch technical issues which may be patched out, but it's seriously one of the best strategy games available if you look past that and the janky animations.

Eldritch - $10.04 (33% off)
ctlfOav.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/252630/
Eldritch is a Lovecraftian dungeon delver inspired by the normal slew of Rouglike's and Voxel graphics. What really sets this game apart from others of it's kind are the expansive levels and how you traverse through them. Being able to look down into the horror that you have to jump into from above is something not often seen in randomly generated dungeon explorers. The up and down traversal gives a whole new dimension (hurr hurr) to combat and exploration.

Endless Space - $10,19 (66% off)
az0UMcD.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/208140

A 4X game in the vein of the civilization series. While it doesnt offer the overall depth of games like Civilization 4 and Galactic Civilization 2, its still a pretty good game in its own right. Due to the lowered complexity level and the fantastic UI, I consider it rather beginner friendly and although I like complexity in my games, still an enjoyable game overall if I want a relaxing round of 4X. If your sole purpose of playing these games is complexity, then you might want to hold off however, since other games (GalCiv2) did a better job in that regard.

English Country Tune - 1.24$ (75% off)
xvWdWMJ.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/207570

Fantastic puzzle game that will challenge your spatial perception in various imaginative and interesting ways. Has been described as '3D Sokoban' by some, but there's a lot more to it as you'll soon realize when more of the game's many mechanics are introduced. It also looks great, runs on all platforms (Win/Mac/Linux) and is insanely cheap!

Eschalon: Book I (&II) - $2.99 (50% off)
5pNdz4E.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/25600/

Old School RPG with a HUGE map, dozens of dungeons, hundreds of items, strategic gameplay that you wont just be able to *clickclickclick* yourself through. Fantastic classic style Indie RPG with interesting lore that really deserves a closer look. The only reason why it has some rather low votes is the presentation, UI and graphics. If you can look beyond that - recommended.

eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetrate Black Package - 2,99 euro (50% off)
HjQClz4.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/207400/

2nd best SHMUP on Steam, after Jamestown. Amazing rock music by japanese indie legend, Saitama Saishuu Heiki. The 2nd game is also worth trying, though it uses the Ikaruga scheme (two colors of bullets, two colors of player character, when you're white, only black bullets hurt you, and vice versa) which might not be up to everyone's liking

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - $2.49 (75% off)
qkLCbeU.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/91700/?snr=1_7_15__13

Imagine if a gothic Deus Ex was made by crazy French developers on acid. This is a first person shooter with an insane aesthetic, fun gameplay, tons of varied action with an almost nonsensical story (mostly due to poor translation). Worth checking out.

FEZ - $4.99 (50% off)
9WSccfh.jpg

store.steampowered.com/app/224760/?snr=1_7_15__13

Phil Fish's doucheyness aside, this game sets a new bar for what puzzle games can be. Its a tremendous effort in creating true mystique and curiosity in the players head. Considering it is probably the best and most spectacular game in its genre, you owe it to yourself to check it out at one point, even though you might already have been afflicted with Puzzle Platforming fatigue.

Frozen Synapse - $9.99 (60% off) (Complete Pack - $ 13.99)
ss_c98fcd0f34b3e19696439492ce135ffd721f55ba.1920x1080.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/98200

Best turn based MP game, that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Although the MP is clearly the highlight, it also has a solid single player campaign. The intricacies of this game will allow for plenty of interesting moves to outwit your enemy in the finest game of mind games I have come across so far. Made even more compelling with lots of usual and not so usual multiplayer options (for those of you who played Chess or Civ IV by email you'll get the idea). Great soundtrack and purchasing this game actually gives you TWO copies.

FTL - $6.99 (30% off)
R9KU5.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/212680

It is basically a Roguelike in space with some light sim aspects. And that roguelike aspect totally has its hooks in me. You start the game with 1 out of 18 ship designs available and try to get as far as you can for the highscore (or even beating the boss, but that will probably take a while), maybe unlocking other ships in the meantime. One of the biggest game surprises of the recent years and an absolute must play at this price point. There is a reason why so many people are in love with this game.

Fly'N - $3,99 (60% off)
iADpFuVjc9bGN.gif

http://store.steampowered.com/app/223730/

Fly’N is a PC platformer in which players control four original characters with their own complementary abilities. They are the guardians of the World-Trees: the Buds. It’s only by combining and by playing with their powers that the Buds will be able to find the right path when the situation seems impossible.

Gateways - $1,24 (75% off)
1p1Ne55.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/216290/

Portal meets Braid meets Metroid. Non-linear platforming with portal mechanics and time manipulation. Gets *very* difficult by the end. . The main claim to fame of it? Is it has powerups like a portal gun which allow you to travel through walls. As you can see from the screens, it can all get you a bit "mentally guard broken" even early on.

Gnomoria - $3,99 (50% off)
7KMt2zs.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/224500

Easily among the best Indie games you can currently grab in this sale, Gnomoria is basically an easier accessible version of Dwarf Fortress due to an easier decipherable UI and mouse integration. For $4, you get dozens hours of sim goodness in which you need to make sure your gnome settlement is thriving and able to fend of invaders.

Grand Ages: Rome - $1,99 (80% off)
k7ioDgn.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/23450/

A city builder game with a big focus on combat, next to the standard city creation. Its not necessarily the best game in the genre, but among the best modern ones and an absolute steal for $2. Unfortunately, this type of game died more or less in the PC scene and only has some watered down iOS equivalents once in a while. If you never dealt with these games, I recommend reading some impressions over here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=417484

Guacamelee! Gold Edition - $5,99 (60% off)
Hna4MLm.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/214770/
Guacamelee! Gold Edition is a Metroid-vania style action-platformer set in a magical Mexican inspired world. The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters. Guacamelee!

Gunpoint - $4,99 (50% off)
Gunpoint-2-008.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/206190/

Gunpoint is a sidescrolling stealth action game with puzzle elements that delivers on satisfying stealth mechanics with a film noir attitude. You'll be tasked with missions for which you need to plan and execute an infiltration plan, take out the guards (or avoid them completely), execute your objectives and then safely return to your home. The most interesting feature of the game that will give it a lot of replayability is the ability to "cross-wire" electric circuits. This allows you , for example, to change a light switch to operating a door or a light on a completely different floor. This allows for a variety of shenanigans with the reactions of the guards and technical possibilities, which makes the levels almost feel a little sandbox in itself. Plus level editor!

Incredipede - $4,99 (50% off)
incredipede.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/230150/

Design your creature and solve physics based puzzles or make and share your own.

Ittle Dew - $6.99 (50% off)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/241320/?snr=1_7_15__13
Ittle Dew is a puzzle adventure with charming graphics, an amusing narrative, and (most importantly) clever puzzles. It took me 3 hours to reach the ending but you can beat the game in 15 minutes if you're smart enough to see the shortcuts and solve puzzles in unconventional ways. The game also has two extra non-story dungeons and a bunch of small caves with their own puzzles to solve.

Jamestown - $7,49 (25% off)
yKVU3jl.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/94200/

Set to the backdrop of an alien invasion, this vertical shooter is filled with charm, beautiful pixel art and hectic energy. An excellent introduction to the bullet hell style with multiple difficulty levels (and more content available for the higher levels), and it also offers 4-player local multiplayer and 360 controller support. If you don't have it yet, get it!

The speed and easy retry of SMB, the developed precision (yet with variety and freedom) ass-whooping skill of God Hand, but in the overhead format usually reserved for pure shooters, then style style style.

355355_intrusion2_screenshot_18_medium.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/214970/?snr=1_7_15__13

I got this as part of a Humble Bundle, just got around to it, and I'm having quite a bit of fun. It's a sci-fi action platformer. Plays like an old-school run n' gun (e.g. Metal Slug) with a focus on physics. Also, you can ride a wolf.

Kairo - $1.49 (70% off)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/233230/

While traversing this empty space and solving meticulously placed puzzles you will slowly discover a true purpose why this architectural behemoth was conceived. It is worth mentioning that the game uses no text and speech at all.

Legend of Fae - $4.99 (50% off)
legend-of-fae3.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/109200/

It's Puzzle Quest with familiars in real time. There's a lot of Indies Jank here, but a lot of charm and love as well. A nice little title that I occasionally come back to.

Legend of Grimrock - $5.09 (66% off)
bZTpvmL.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/207170/

An amazingly atmospheric journey through a dark and hopeless dungeon, with only your wits and a torch to guide your party of four. Highly recommended for everyone, even people who haven't played this type of game before. You will love it.

aT464lT.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/26391/

All right guys, there are very few games that get carte blance recommendation from me, but this title by the creators of Shank is pretty close. 91% Metacritic; support for alternate playstyles; awesome achievements; controller support. It's probably one of the best Indie games I've ever played. If you like Ninjas, get this game; if you like stealth games, get this game. If you like amazing atmosphere / writing / even voice acting, get this game. BUT WAIT FOR THE DAILY / FLASH SALE! Even if it doesn't drop, consider getting this game. It's that good.

Brilliant and addictive. Figure out how not blow up the scene. If it means shoving something up someone's @$$ it's all good or least within the developers demented consciousness it is. Fail and repeat until you get the solution right. Doesn't make sense, doesn't matter, worth a chuckle or two. Customized visuals through filters is a sweet touch.

Men of War - $3,29 (67% off)
0000008590.600x338.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/7830/

Men of War is both an RTS and one of the fiddliest beasts to control that I have ever seen. So what makes up for that? The combination of unit detail (each unit has their own inventory and equipment) and Direct Control (you can take over and directly control the action of an individual unit on the battlefield) leads to incredibly emergent gameplay when trying to accomplish the missions. You'll always remember that one mission where after your T-34 got knocked out by a Panzerfaust you took direct control of one surviving tank crew member, grabbed and equipped a rifle from a dead German, took out the crew of a neighboring 88 flak gun, and used the last remaining AT rounds in that gun to knock out an approaching German Panzer to save the mission.

Noitu Love 2 is a charming little action game where the two big draws are the fantastic pixel art and the unique mouse + keyboard control scheme. Your character has a fast airdash that is aimed with the mouse cursor, so when you get into a flow you can rack up huge combo points while screaming around a level without even touching the ground.

store.steampowered.com/app/211360/

Pretty enjoyable and easygoing puzzle-platformer underneath which lies basically another game that is as merciless as Super Meat Boy and I've only realized that because it got achievements added not that long ago. Beating the original 100 levels took me maybe 2-2.5 hours, it took as much to unlock the next 10 levels and I don't know when I'm gonna unlock the last 10 because they're hard as fuck compared to the rest.

Your boulder is controlled by you, avoiding the enemy traps and trying to keep your speed is essencial to maximize the damage you can deliver. Also the artstyle is very nice.

Snapshot - $6,99 (30% off)
JxY6Qyy.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/204220/

After finishing Snapshot, I can say its greater quality is the superb level design. Although the entire game being built around the use of the camera, the levels still bring something new until the very end. The majority of the objects are used only in a handful of levels before being dropped for something new, keeping the game always fresh. The game is very easy if you finish the level without completing any secondary goal, so I recommend to go after the secret objects and the stars for maximum enjoyment. The graphics, although simple, are a delight to look at, evocative of the 16bit era platformers.

Mutant Blobs was the best launch game on the Vita and remains one of the best games on the system. I haven't played the steam version yet but there is no reason it shouldn't be as fun. One of the best and truest to the roots adventures when you liked the Sierra Adventures like Kings Quest VIII. Some Puzzles are a bit out of the world but you are definitely in for a treat. Its definitely my favorite adventure by FAR of the recent years. Actually I was thinking about creating an OT when it came out here, but it wasnt out in America yet and I wanted to wait. Well seems I missed that point. The game is great, has some unbelievably charming characters, smart puzzles (that get hard later on) and a very memorable ending. The Whispered World is a great, one of the best recent adventure games. Highly recommended. The voice of Sadwick is annoying though, so be warned.

They Bleed Pixels - $2.49 (75% off)
TAqWwUz.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/211260/

This is a really damn good platformer. Good, but also devious, unforgiving, and rage-inducing. After every stage I finish, I can typically be heard muttering something about how ridiculous that shit just was. Even so, I'm almost immediately ready to jump back in. The controls are actually really tight, and the enemies pretty creative and dangerous. The soundtrack remains interesting throughout, and the fat pixel art is really appealing (and incredibly gory). Platforming feels very Super Meat Boy, but combine that with super fluid and varied combat and you have an absolute winner!

Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! are a couple of rip-roaring point-and-click adventure games . If you loved the design of the first one, you'll like already have bought the second, but even for people (like me) who didnt like the puzzles of the first one, Toki Tori 2 is definitely worth a look. They changed the level based structure and very finicky puzzles to a bigger, more open world structure, inviting the player to explore.

2dcfUja.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/37600/

Windosill is a digital pop-up book and a good enough price to be considered an overlooked and charming recommended deal even at 0% off. Allegedly great for children, but as a fan of both whimsy and point-and-click adventure games, I liked it. It is extremely short (about an hour long) and probably not for everyone. The good thing is that the first half of the game is available as a free demo on the official site. The bad thing is that it hasn't been on sale since the 2012 Summer Sale.

Winter Voices - $1,12 (75% off)
QiGKmTU.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/72900/

A unique strategy RPG that is definitely undeservedly overlooked. Dont trust the Metacritics average, just looking at the user average makes it apparent that there is a 30% difference with the "professional" reviews. Its not a game for everyone, and if you are used to skinner box style gameplay progress, you wont be able to stand the slow progress and movement in this game. However, if you can stomach that, you might get to enjoy a very unique art style in a very uniquely themed SRPG.

Interesting Bundle deals for Steam Indies:

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 Pack - $3.74 (75% off)
psDWo6R.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/14311/

A Valley Without Wind 1
is what happens when you let someone who is completely batshit insane take on the metroidvania formula. The word massive can't even begin to describe it - a completely randomly generated world will continue to expand so long as you wish to progress in a direction. Traverse the lands with a mixture of fast platforming and a spellcasting system that is deeper than the rabbit hole appears. The dark side of this sheer glut of content is that after a while it becomes a pure numbers game and is powered simply by your will to continue.

A Valley Without Wind 2 takes the open ended nature of the first and tosses it to the wayside, instead wanting to concentrate on the strategy element which can be a huge negative if you were a fan of the platforming of the first. It tries a bit too hard to push way more on you at once, so your milage may vary.

The upside to this is that both are available with each other, so you can get both for the very cheap price of $3.74 and find out which one is more your speed. If you're able to get past the gaudy visuals, occasionally confusing subsystems and heavy reliance on your enjoyment of lootwhore-vania games, you should consider what AVWW1&2 have to offer.

Gundemonium Collection - $5 (50% off)

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/11712/

Only 50% off, but Steam isn't exactly loaded with good bullet hell SHMUPs so I'll recommend this as well. Has three fun Japanese indie shooters, the first two being side scrollers (the second one is the only game in the collection with a two player mode) and the last one being a top down shooter. Some good bullet patterns and interesting mechanics on display here.

Spiderweb Collection - $11,99 (70% off)
mbf8k85.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/33525/

An RPG collection with an insane amount of value. Each of those games is 40-100 hours long, with quality writing and inventive worlds/gameplay mechanics. Lover of classic RPGs should own all of these.

Ultrabundle - $6,24 (75% off)
sOqWA3n.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/26433

You get 4 addicting arcade games with a unique artstyle/theme. Also the developers have not made a cent of profit from these titles.

Amanita Collection - $12,49 (50% off)
JT9Ur9D.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15624/?cc=us
In my opinion the most original and engaging games of the genre are Amanita Design games (I'm biased as I grew watching and loving eastern european animation classics). Samorost, Machinarium, Botanicula. They all are conveniently bundled for this sale. And they all are a must have for the fans of the genre.

Carpe Fulgur Collection - $49.99 (0% off)
0x4Ps2W.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15400/

3 charmingly translated Japanese indie games, all sharing a moe anime inspired art style and characters (fair warning for people with a strong aversion to such things) from 2 different developers. Recettear a item shop game/action RPG dungeon crawler and Chantalise a ARPG dungeon crawler from EasyGameStation, plus Fotune Summoners a side scrolling ARPG platformer (think Wonder Boy in Monster World or Zelda 2) from Lizsoft.

The Blackwell Bundle Containing: Legacy, Unbound Convergence and Deception - $4,99 (75% off.)
aGqwEIp.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/13237/?snr=1_7_15__13

Collection of supernatural investigative adventure games created by Dave Gilbert. "When three NYU students kill themselves one after the other, nobody thinks that a sinister force is at work. Nobody but fledgling medium Rosa Blackwell and her new spirit guide Joey Mallone. It's trial by fire as they set these troubled spirits to rest"

Aztaka - $9,99 (0% off)
Zxvmmmg.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/37100/

A sidescrolling Action RPG, think a side scrolling Diablo game lite, including loot, smaller puzzles and snazzy fighting skills. Loved the gameplay of the demo, certainly worth $2,49. There is a free demo you can check out too.

B.U.T.T.O.N. (Brutally Unfair Tactics Totally OK Now) - $2.99 (0% off)
WSxCPBC.jpg
74_figure1.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/92400/

Considering the staggeringly low amount of party games on Steam, this one deserves a mention for being rare AND fun. The game asks you to do some actions, while trying to make sure that the others cant do them. The physicality of the gameplay and the evolving behaviour of anyone participating make this a great choice for a party game. However, make sure to play it with good friends, since there are some sex-related jokes/challenges as well.

Everyday Shooter - $9.99 (0% off)
XxpvsHH.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/16300/

One of the best shmups I ever played with a great artstyle, level design and fantastic soundtrack. I am still playing this game on and off after 3 years or something to FINALLY beat it eventually. Highly recommended if you have even only a slight interest in shmups.

Fractal: Make Blooms Not War - $3,49 (50% off)
995rqYD.jpg

store.steampowered.com/app/61310/

Fractals is a bit more of a traditional puzzle game (basically a "match 7" puzzle game), but the gameplay mechanic of pushing stones outward and building combos is so elegant and straightforward, yet can seem deviously difficult once they add another element to the mix. Fun game. I highly recommend the Fractals + Splice bundle ($5,99) for anyone liking puzzle games.

Gemini Rue - $9.99 (0% off)
TwHAsI0.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/80310/?snr=1_7_15__13

Azriel Odin, ex-assassin, arrives on the rain-drenched planet of Barracus. When things go horribly wrong, he can only seek help from the very criminals he used to work for. Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a man called Delta-Six wakes up in a hospital with no memory. Without knowing where to turn or who to trust, he vows to escape before he loses his identity completely.
As fate brings these two closer together, we discover a world where life is cheap, identities are bought and sold, and a quest for redemption can change the fate of a whole galaxy.

Mr. Robot - $9,99 (0% off)
oIApIpY.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/20710/

You play Asimov, a humble serving robot aboard the spaceship Eidolon, where everything is going wrong a la System Shock: robot rebellions, crew hypersleep death, uppity artificial intelligences. Only, you're in an old school isometric 3D world, just like your sainted mother used to make back in the 1980s. Puzzles - challenging your mental and physical faculties, and occasionally even both - hamper your progress. And they're expertly, lovingly designed.

Q.U.B.E. - $9,99 (0%)
gOgfMWE.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/203730/

Isolated puzzle game, very much in a similar style to the original portal game. You play a silent protagonist stuck inside a QUBE, you have a glove that can activate colour squares within this QUBE. You basically navigate through and solve puzzles, some are head scratchers but with trial and error you will get there eventually. Really enjoyed it.

Splice - $9,99 (0% off)
6rFzmXd.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/209790

Very slick and interesting puzzle game. I love puzzle games that dont just follow the match 3 formula and actually try something different. Its unfortunately not that long (50 or so main levels), but the idea of dividing cells to make them fit a pattern and making a puzzle game from that is just way too interesting not to mention it. Fantastic soundtrack too btw, and it also has a demo on Steam you can check out. In a bundle with 2 other interesting games (Auditorium and Fractal:Make blooms not war) for $5,99.

Starseed Pilgrim - $5,99 (0% off)
ibdsNy2URF82WA.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/230980

The basic gameplay revolves around growing "seeds", which then turn into structures that the player can traverse, but the process of finding out how to use these new found tools was so refreshingly unique and even mysterious, that I would consider it a recent gaming experience I wouldnt want to miss. What people take from games inevitably varies, but it showed me that I didnt lose the sense of wonder and curiousity that games instilled in me when I was younger.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP - $7,99
iixNW52.jpg

store.steampowered.com/app/204060/

Play this game, people. Not quite like much I've played before, but if I had to categorize it, it's similar to a point and click adventure game, with some light combat. Very cool abstract game that incorporates some interesting social media features that break the fourth wall , great atmosphere/vibe, beautiful visuals, and fantastic electronic soundtrack from the great Jim Guthrie.

Under The Ocean - $9.99 (0% off)
pEdR3lN.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/227720/

Shipwrecked on a tropical island, you must use your wits and the natural environment to survive, craft, explore - and eventually, find your way home. Under the Ocean is currently in early alpha.Under the Ocean features a flexible, physics based crafting system. Hundreds of items interact in strange and unexpected ways. Attach a sharp rock to the end of some driftwood to make a spear. Then a glow worm for lighting, or dip the tip in poison berries - or both! Build traps to ensnare prey, windmills to generate power, a lakeside cabin, and eventually, a raft to make your way home.

Gunpoint is only 10% off ($8.99) but it's fantastic. Giant Bomb did a Quick Look tha explains almost everything. Very addictive. Just wait to see if it's included in a daily or flash sale and if not, buy the hell out of it next week.

I didn't realize we had a format:

Gunpoint - $8.99 (10% off)

Gunpoint isn't the easiest game to describe. It's a puzzle-based platformer with stealth dressings? Regardless, it is a hell of a lot of fun, even if it's a bit short. It also has a great aesthetic, mixing film noir and 8-bit elements.

I just realized today that I have over 27 hours logged into Little Inferno.

That's twenty and seven.

IN MY DEFENSE...I have a 5 year old with Aspergers who's also a future arsonist and who loves playing (and then walking away to play something else while letting the game idle).

GIVE ME CARDS FOR LITTLE INFERNO VALVE. So my son can get a badge for me.

Is Stearn a typo or some sort of expression I missed :p ?

lol, just noticed that.

It's an in joke now, since Salsa messed it up on the last thread and the mods refused to change it.

Actually, may as well start off with this:

If you haven't already, buy Hotline Miami!

It's on sale for four more hours for just €2.12, or whatever your local equivalent is, so there's absolutely no excuses any more.

Also, buy the soundtrack! It's on sale too, and is awesome!

Endless Space is really fun. Wasn't sure if I should pick it up yesterday, but decided to. Been playing Gal Civ 2 for years, so it's been fun with this new game.

A thread which combines Toma's indie game recommendations with Steam sales? I fear for my wallet...

That was actually how it all started. Good times, good times.

Buy Dungeons of Dredmor if you like roguelikes or want a basic intro to them. It's a good, funny game and during the Steam sale you can get the entire game + all expansions for a total of like $2.

Also, trading cards.

Strike Suit Infinity and Zero are 75% off

I haven't played this game yet but I saw the video some month ago and was amazed by this game. It is currently selling for the crazy amount of 1,24€, with a 75% discount - crazy for a early access game.

Buy it.

Since I'll be on the road from tomorrow onwards, I'd appreciate if you guys could take your time to create posts with the layout provided in the OP. Saves me a huge chunk of time and I can immediately add it to the thread without you needing to wait a few hours until I have time to update it.

Surely it'll get a bigger discount than that?

Good idea for a thread - these cheap game/indie game/bucket list threads are always my favorite around sale time. My biggest disappointment for the steam sale so far is that Evoland doesn't have any discount. Since I saw the GB quicklook it went right to the top of my "buy during the summer sale" list. Maybe it pops up during a flash or daily

Anyway, I'm curious to see what everyone recommends.

Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack - $1.99 (75% off)

Mutant Blobs was the best launch game on the Vita and remains one of the best games on the system. I haven't played the steam version yet but there is no reason it shouldn't be as fun. You’re a Blob of alien origin with mutant powers and an insatiable appetite. To the great horror of your former captors (and all of humanity), you have escaped into the world. Consume Everything. Regret Nothing.

The Whispered World:

The voice of Sadwick is annoying though.

Obligatory beautyshot:
TWW%2011-620x.jpg

Can be bought for $4,99 here:
http://store.indiegala.com/index.php/the-whispered-world.html

Me, my sister and my girlfriend all played through this gem in no time, and both of those rarely actually play games. It is charming to no end and I cant recommend it enough for the world and the old Sierra feeling. Definitely one of the more underrated Adventures out there.

And yeah, voice acting is annoying, in every language.

Oh, I'm eagerly awaiting discounts on Kentucky Route Zero and The Swapper, currently 25% off. Really want to play those :D

I don't have much experience with 4x games (Only about 20 hours with Civ 5), but I got Endless Space and got addicted to it right away. I really enjoyed the galaxy view in Mass Effect 2, and this game is that 100% of the time. The tutorials the game offers are fairly helpful, but Lets Play videos on YouTube are provably more beneficial. I've yet to complete a game because I restarted a bunch of times trying to figure out workable strategies. In spite of that, I haven't felt very frustrated with the game; rather, my enthusiasm for Endless Space remains high. I've put about a dozen hours of playtime in the first week. I still have a lot to learn, but i feel I'm slowly improving each play session.

For those Gaffers with little experience with 4x strategy games, I highly recommend you try Endless Space out!

Abstract action game where you fly down a tunnel avoiding, collecting and shooting various things (each level is different). The sound and visuals are very well done, but the intricacies of the mechanics are what really impressed me.

$12.49 USD is pretty decent price for Recettear + Fortune Summoners + Chantelise as a side bonus. Unless you have a strong aversion to moe anime style art/characters they are pretty fun games.

I don't think they will drop it below 75%, but you never know I guess
