Media Create Sales: Week 28, 2013 (Jul 08 - Jul 14)

It was also really hot to the level of heat wave in Japan last week, and it came out in a holiday weekend where people were not in the streets. Even the Pokémon Centers were fairly empty and that seldom happens.

This has an effect on sales. I'm not saying this to spin but as an explanation. You need to factor in all the factors in order to make a determination.

Hahahaha!!!

Please, continue.

Eh....I liked your other explanation better.

Making Pikmin 3 was not smart.

As far as I know the team for Pikmin 3 was relatively small, so I doubt it was a mistake, at least not if it does about this well in the US and EU, too. It's obvious though, that Pikmin is not a (big) system seller, it wasn't for GCN, nor for Wii or Wii U. Nintendo's mistake is not to have more games lined up, not the fact that Pikmin is one of the games coming out.

Reposting from the other thread for bragging rights:

Considering the reporting period is two days only, I think these figures would be more reasonable:

Wii U : 23k
Pikmin 3 : 95k

Seems like I was pretty close with my prediction.

For me this is pretty much expected and in line with my expectations, the sales in the near future will be much more interesting to follow.

Dude this is worse than anything skyzord ever posted. Stop shitting up the thread
90k is two days is bad now?

Pikmin sales are mediocre. Wiiu sales are shit for all that came out this week.

As I said on the other thread, that doesnt bode well for the Wii-U. Pikmin isnt exactly a system seller imo, so lets see how things go with another games in the future.

I'm not saying that this wasn't bad, it is. What I'm saying is that people are ignoring multiple factors that should be considered

1. This is tracking only two days rather than the standard four days
2. This was a holiday weekend, in a heat wave. Everywhere was empty while people want to various events to celebrate.

it's no different to TV viewing figures for shows. People go out and do crap when the weather is nice, they don't think "Yeah, I'll go wait in line for a console". You can tell this by just how damned low everything else is, including the 3DS.

Vinnk 2 weeks ago responding to a prediction of 30k minimum said:
Really? The minimum? There are 25k people who will buy a WiiU that week because they were waiting for Pikmin 3?

Most of the people desperately excited for this niche franchise likely already have a WiiU. I don't expect a big bump. I mean I hope I'm wrong but I think +15k would be optimistic.

One game is not going to bump the Wii U unless it's a major big hitter like Mario Kart or a numbered Dragon Quest. Nintendo games are not as front loaded. If nintendo wants a bump they need to release a set of high quality games that will get good word of mouth and make people realize there are enough good games on the system to make a purchase worthwhile.

The end of the year looks good there and I think Pikmin 3 will add to that momentum coming into the holidays, but by itself I don't think we will see a massive impact. Unless nintendo really advertises the heck out of it (the ads they made are good, but so fare they are rarely played) I don't think hardware will get a 25K boost on the back of one game.

I was gonna repost it as a prediction but I got caught up in the Pikmin 3 hype and doubted myself.

3ds is the same damn number as last week. Stop shilling

Of course, which is why all systems are noticeably dow... oh.

Sorry, as much as I'd like the Wii U or Pikmin to be more successful, this is just a non-factor. If I was so hyped for a game that I'd buy a 300€ console for it, I wouldn't let a warm day stop me from buying the game on launch day.

Pikmin 3 may have underperformed, but I think the read stinker here is the Nintendo Land bundle. Didn't that also come out? It's not on the charts at all.
Pikmin itself was never a major system seller.

The only thing that could "save" the Wii U at this point is what "saved" the PS3: a massive price drop and a willingness on Nintendo's part to bleed enormous amounts of money.

If Nintendo is willing to drop the price of the Wii U to 150 bucks and lose 5+ Billion dollars on the Wii U as Sony did on the PS3, I can see that having a dramatic effect on sales.

Barring that extremely unlikely scenario, I don't see any method for the Wii U to be any more than a marginal, niche product.

I'm glad I came in this thread because holy shit I'm laughing so hard.

Too bad for Wii U. Though, I'm happy Pikmin at least has some sort of success, I don't want this franchise to die with its third iteration.

Actually I thought they said Pikmin had been planned as a trilogy iirc, so this ought to be its last iteration anyway, unless they changed their mind in the future.

I actually thought you were joking since you mentioned a Pokemon center but now I don't know what to say

WiiU not getting out of the grave

Pikmin 3 doesn't look so bad for 2 days, but next week will be interesting to see its legs.

Actually quite what I was thinking, but NeoGAF insisted on it not being a niche franchise in Japan ;). Nevertheless, all Wii U owners should definitely buy this game.

Pretty much. Although i think dropping it to 199 would have a good effect on it.

Also for saying this could be worse, pikmin 3 is the biggest series nintendo has until november. Wiiu is about to have a horrible next 4 months

I don't see how Pikmin 3 underperformed. Pretty good for a game that hasn't had a new entry for a long time.

You know the Wii-U is fucked when I can't even be arsed to stick the boot in. I'm almost on the verge of nearly almost feeling sorry for Nintendo.

Heh, just kidding. They cooked this dish, they can eat it.

I fucking love you, man. The Vita was on track for a 40k week before the sun came out :(
