Best Izuru Suruga moment yet. Otherwise much of it was the same as the other episodes, though a bit hard to really care for the mech fight even, felt like a certain something was missing as in all of these. I cant wait to rewatch it on bd, maybe that will have the magic thats missing.

TTGL rips off the plot from the Shin Getter manga, which is very different from Armageddon, and it's mostly the premise "alien race which fears energy source connected to evolution used by humanity's giant robot attacks humanity". Shin Getter wasn't about underground dwellers fighting against animal people who conquered the surface or the heroes having to take care of Earth's government. The casts are completely different too.

Eva has some Ideon influences, with the god-like mysterious robot housing a soul inside it, and said robot preferring children, but at the same time, there are basic structural differences. The enemies in Ideon aren't a mystery at all, in spite of that being a big part of Eva. Ideon's protagonist and antagonists share a lot in format with Gundam - a lone ship in the territory of an enemy army, receiving little help from their allies.

Saying something like "Tokyo-3 is the solo ship!" is incridebly misleading, especially when closer set ups can be seen in other sources of inspiration for Eva, like freaking Mazinger. A lab hiding a secret underground that's targeted by monster attacks isn't some veiled reference to a space ship in enemy territory, it's a clear influence from the first Super Robot series. And that's just one thing. Eva takes things from tons of sources to the point that you can't point to any specific show before it and say that Eva felt the same.

You're right, but that's what I mean for Rahxephon.. the concept is similar or even taking thing of from the older (aside TTGL one that I mention as rip-off, maybe too strong of word) but its not a blatant copy from one thing like EVA, its taking idea from a lot of stuff and became its own thing in the end.

Somebody's been watching Utena, and they took more than just driving with a stranger to talk about profound things from it. Laid some more groundwork for quite a lot of big questions in-universe, too. Too bad some of the dialogue felt a bit stilted, though.

Arrive at work. Principal hands out a newspaper article about a 6th grade girl in Nagasaki (here) who tried to commit suicide by hanging herself.

Fortunately her parents found her in the middle of the act and got her down and to the hospital.

Loving the hell out of Majestic Prince, every episode has holyshit/10 mecha action. The studio doing the CG should be hired EVERYWHERE.

Mega Man Sins 6

Ware Wa Messiah Nari! Ha Ha Ha! So basically Omega tells Zero that if Zero will die for everybody, then Omega can save the world. I mean, they were already sorta playing the Jesus angle by having it so that whoever ate Casshern's body would be saved from Ruin, but flat out "Your life or the world's" is pretty obvs.

That said, Zero doesn't have a lot of say in the matter. He's like,
"Yeah, I'll die for the world."
and Omega is like,
"Kay."
But then
Berserker mode triggers and he proceeds to beat the crap out of Omega until Ciel shows up and breaks up the fight and Leviathan carries Omega away.

This is what you get for killing the Dark Elf and dropping a Space Colony onto the Earth, Mega Man.

Love Lab 3

Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure last week, but this week convinced me. I definitely like these two "new" (former president and treasurer) Student Council members.

Glasses-girl is such a shameless schemer and troll, but deep down quite possibly the most down-to-earth out of everyone, and she clearly cares about her friend a lot (...even while tormenting her). Meanwhile ex-President girl is just adorable in her straightforwardness. She's like a tsundere who fails at the whole "tsun" part. And the "dere" part. And...well, everything really, but she messes up so adorably that it's hard to blame her. Bless her, she tries. I look forward to seeing her
welcomed as a full part of the student council Love Lab
next episode.

Gintama Episode 10 – Eat Something Sour When You’re Tired

Pretty dull episode on a dog no one really cares about or even a character of interest that is still yet to do anything funny at all. Kagura cant possible have any fans. Sogo continues to bring the best laughs, the collar for Hijikata even and he had it on.

So this OVA was categorised as a Hentai, but it wasn't really one...more of a comedy again.

The Wierd/Funny stuff in it:
Some girls look through googles a guys window. The guy has a messy one-room dorm and constantly masturbates. One shot is particulary funny. He cums in the air, and tries to grab the load with 2 tissues, and yet it falls on his face like bird poo.
The girls talk how he's an animal, but one is hurrdurr he is lonely. He goes to him and is his maiden. The girl is the naive clueless type. But she seems strangely schoolbook knowledgable, answering all the college entrance exam questions asked by the guy flawlessly while she masturbates.
But she is a rich girl. The guy get's invited in her house and the typical plot of not being worthy of the family unravels...and uhhh, apperently the girl can't orgasm. They make her do freaky practices like carrying a certain weight under her vagina and stuff...
The guy get's kicked out, and when he comes back there is this over the top defense force of tanks and machine guns...all of them having really fun shootin' stuff it seems.
Boy and girl get together and do it in the tank, fainting all the soldiers around them
To both stay together, the guy needs 2 million yen. Later on, girl flees, comes to guys dorm, they fuck, and a helicopter with 2 million yen falls on them of them breaking the whole building while they fuck.

It's kinky, comically over the top (expressions hint), and like most retro hentai very softcore. Kinda sweet tho', not that tasteless

So they did address this right away then. Eureka in black looked pretty sweet! Also some nice sakuga. Though I liked the Skullman's incarnation of this scene better. They also explained the kids though I don't hate them any less now. Even though their existence is pretty ironic now.
Things are certainly looking up for our MC though!

RWBY Episode 1: I rather liked this outing, soild action and unlike say Gatchaman Crowds, didn't bog down the episode with a shit-ton of clunky exposition being passed off as world building.

Sort of spoilers but not, I dunno, look at your own risk:
If something is getting better for Renton, it will also get worse for Renton. His life only goes up so it can go further down.

I find the lack of Gidget here disgusting.

You're a bloated show filled with mostly unlikeable characters!

The actual lay out is like so:

Eureka > Ray > Hilda > Talho > Anemone > Sakuya > Gidget > All the guys including Hap and Woz > those crazy fucking fish things > That crusty old sage of indeterminate gender > that mashed up dude's arm > Anyone else I've forgotten > Mayter > Linck and what's his name.

All this Studio Ghibli talk should help us prepare for the main dish; today in Japan (July, 19) we get that new, on TV, 4 minutes trailer for The Wind Rises, airing at the usual NTV's Friday Road SHOW!:

スタジオジブリ - STUDIO GHIBLI - 「風立ちぬ」の劇場予告編テレビ初放送のお知らせ
http://www.ghibli.jp/10info/009356.html

I actually used to think that way too, and it's pretty natural. Mononoke is clearly a later work in his career and it's obviously a far more refined version of the ideas he explored earlier. However, after going through Miyazaki's catalogue numerous times I've eventually come around to feeling while Monokoe has more developed characters and a refined message it's just a bit stale and lifeless, where as Nausicaa is far simpler and more enjoyable 'adventure' movie. It's reminiscent of that dynamic, energetic Miyazaki who was really exploring new ideas in really creative ways.

It's like, on paper I can acknowledge that Princess Mononoke is his most accomplished movie but I don't actually like it nearly as much as many of his other works. It just lacks a certain undefinable magic which I could probably define far better if I was actually good at critiquing a work.
Hideaki Anno kind of did refer in the same way (on the liner notes for Ghibli Ga Ippai Collection SPECIAL Short Shorts) to that lack of energy and excitement (or "blood") in exchange of the further refinement on a needed to success formula:

Hideaki Anno said:
All of Studio Ghibli's works are top level creations.
But, I can't help but feel that something is missing.
This is because, although the technique is there, I can no longer feel "blood",
the "blood" that is surely flowing within everyone.
I wonder when that happened?

Studio Ghibli's works have, for me, become things that doesn't possess the
image of "Anime", but rather of the so-called Japanese cinema, in other
words, the Japanese movies that have now lost all their energy.
That may be the reason that I feel that something is missing.

(...)

When I helped out as an animator for "Nausicaa", there's something that Miya-san often told me.
It seems to have come from a Chinese sage, but "There are three conditions for accomplishing something.
Those are: 'Being young', 'Being poor', and 'Being unknown'."
And, "No matter what, make friends."
So I was taught. This was more than 12 years ago.
Yes, I've known Miya-san approximately 12 years.
In that time, I think Miya-san has achieved various things.
However, he also lost many things.
http://www.cjas.org/~mneideng/trans/misc/annoghib.txt

This last part could perfectly be something to be remembered even nowadays by Mr. Anno himself, isn't it?

And that is coming from a very discerning person very close to Miya that doesn't ends up defining that "missing" sensation in great detail either, so I think your (in my opinion) extremely good critiquing skills aren't in question here, man (don't even joke about that). :)

/XX/ or someone might have to back me up (or shut me up) on this one, but IIRC, Miyazaki ended up making Mononoke partly because he wanted to 'prove' that he could make that kind of action flick at his age.
If true, I guess it's natural it doesn't feel as magical and adventurous as some of his other work. I agree that it's a well-crafted narrative, although I wouldn't call it his most accomplished film in terms of the overall audiovisual package. But that may just be me.
We both GCX & I have you covered, buddy! Along the following source in the form of an interview transcription from ASCII Corp., old TECH Win Magazine, where Toshio Suzuki talks about Princess Mononoke possibly being, at that time, one of his last opportunities to make this kind of big fantasy-action tales:

鈴木敏夫インタビュー
http://www.yk.rim.or.jp/~rst/rabo/miyazaki/suzuki_i.html

And Hayao Miyazaki complied to Mr. Suzuki pleas, because Mr. Suzuki knows better about Mr. Miyazaki than Mr. Miyazaki himself does!

This would probably be fine if it was just fighting scenes I suppose.

Strip away the Halo references and you have your typical boring anime set up.

wait, this has halo references? ahahahahaha
Naw, I meant, Rooster Teeth is known basically for Red vs Blue and the guy was hired to make action sequences for RvB... I assume this is their attempt to make something completely original and not tied to a game company though.

Oh, I knew that but I thought you were talking about some added nods to Halo or something.

Either way this thing is a massive turd.
