Damn. I keep going back and forth whether I want to spend $10 of my $20 for that pack due to the fear of something else I want being on sale soon for more than $10...Then I think of what I could get with that platinum and go back to wanting it. I have 7 hours to decide...

I HATE STEAM SALES! Ok, I hate them and love them at the same time.

will I be able to carry progression from the PC version over to the PS4 release? Like, will accounts be shared between the two versions, or has this not been announced as yet?

I just started playing this last night. It looked halfway decent and I'll probably play it on the PS4. So I should just go ahead and buy that pack, yeah?

They said it's possible to link PC and PS4 accounts, but it's Sony's call. No idea if they've confirmed if they will or won't yet.

Also, I bought the pack. 150 plat for a clan emblem... hm hm hm... Are you guys worth it? :p

Ah hell, I caved in and bought it so I don't regret it later. Normally I wouldn't, but you guys have made the game 10000x better and the prospect of playing this on the PS4 with my friends there too makes it worth it.

Now to figure out what to buy. I kind of want the stealth bundle since I have the Thunderbolt mod and have an obsession with bows in games. It will save me some grind time since I have a hard time playing for extended periods of time anyway. As for the frame, I have no clue at this point since I keep hearing different things about Banshee.

I caved and bought the tenno pack. Honestly it's probably better to get the $10 pack instead. Right now there really isn't much to buy except potatos and slots. 500 is more than enough. Considering the game is about grinding for new frames and weapon blueprints/material, platinum kind of takes away a lot of gameplay. The 1500 I bought will last a very long time.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.

I'm in a similar boat.

This will take a bit of my sale budget but I've been wanting to try Warframe. Going by the comments the Starter packs seems like decent value. Buying and hoping that it is indeed worth it!

Glad it won :D Tempted to get the Tenno pack but there really is no use for that much Plat (seeing as I still got 600 lol), though I may grab the gift pack since I bought the starter pack a few days back

which are the fun melee weapons to use? Not a fan of the default one (think long sword type?) because of the sliding around... hows the greatsword?

The most powerful melee in this game is to pick the weapons that do the best charge damage, mod them to take advantage of that, and then ONLY use charge attacks.
But the most fun is the dual Zorens.
They have a glitch that sends you shooting across the map. They aren't very powerful though, and the way to use them is to use the normal attack, and mod that to go very fast.
My melee frame of choice is the fairly obvious rhino. He is easy to farm, and incredibly powerful, right up to endgame content.

Welp, I found a way to get the starter pack more than once. Just need to make a new steam account and buy and login to warframe (since it asks to apply your steam pack to your account when you login) way better deal than the gift pack (don't think it actually works :/)

I'm going to get dual zorens and mod them for attack speed and critical chance/damage. The Zorens have 25% crit chance on normal attacks (charge is only 5%). The dual Fangs are faster attack but much less crit chance.

Edit : If you run the game at low fps it's advised to stick to a 2h melee weapon as swing timers are capped by your bad fps and you won't be able to achieve the real swing speed of your daggers. (not sure of the actual math behind it but it's confirmed).

Played this game last night for the first time and really had a blast. It is kinda hard for me to get used to the mouse and keyboard controls though. I hope PC & ps4 share accounts because I just got the tenno pack and am mostly looking forward to playing this on the ps4. I am so not used to the twitch gameplay haha I am so bad. I hopefully I am better with a controller...

Thanks for the info, I just read up on that myself. So I bought the pack and now I'm wondering what to buy. Are there any reliable guides out there right now? I have no idea what's worth buying.

So I bought starter pack on steam on phone app during sale... how do i link this to my warframe acc? They don't seem to do steam wallet like most f2p games o_O

Launch the game and a thing will pop up saying something about pending Steam promotion or something along those lines.

The NeoGAF logo looks good to me.
A GAF logo stylized for Warframe! I'll get to playing around in mspai...Photoshop here sometime. /procrastination

Holy bow and arrow. That was well worth the platinum in my eyes as a huge bow lover and someone who needed a powerful weapon. The Kunai are pretty damn good too with the Glaive being hit or miss (literally too) but still a lot of fun. Overall, I'm happy I got that as I have trouble playing long enough to farm for some of the good shit.

Thanks to you guys, I had plenty of mods ready for my new gear too including Thunderbolt mods for my bow so I'm quite happy. The Shade Sentinel will be ready tomorrow and now I finally feel like I'm catching up for lost time.

My only fear is that another surgery is in the works so I'm hoping I'll be able to hook it up to my TV by my bed and just play with a controller without too many problems. I hate disappearing for a while due to my medical roller-coaster.

The bow and arrow huh? I thought about getting that, but I wasn't really sure. I prefer guns, semi-automatic if at all possible. I did see a lot of people using bows, though. I also read that the Kunai was one of the most powerful weapons.

I'm still trying to make decisions, but I've only played for a couple of hours and have no idea what I'm really doing. Was feeling a bit sick most of the day so I didn't bother to sit down and get more time in.

Sorry to hear about the medical issues as well. Hope things get better, man.

If you are going to be using a 360 pad, it works well. Obviously it slows you down, bit less accurate, but you should be able to keep up just fine, and you wouldn't necessarily be a detriment to the squad :D

I play using a gamepad, works quite well. The defaults suck a bit, but that's easy to fix. A word of advice: Turn off aim assist. It's a broken mess, doesn't work anything like aim assist in other games, and will constantly fuck with your aim.

It's basically automatic Zelda/Metroid Prime-style lock on. The controls are so ridiculous, you'd think Digital Extremes hasn't made (or maybe even seen) a console shooter before.
The PS4 version should be... interesting, especially if they mix this with the E3 demo control scheme that mapped frame powers to touchpad gestures. Oh boy.

That's exactly what I thought. It's automatic lock-on, except it only locks on to whatever it thinks you might be targeting (which is surprisingly often wrong), and only when and for as long as it feels like it. Completely broken, especially for long distance shots. And as I wrote, the default button layout makes no fucking sense either.

So, what should I buy from the stuff I got with the starter pack? Level 8 (leveled in beta, I think) without any decent things. :D Running a Volt warframe, haven't tried any others.

Anyone figure out a good controller mapping? Default is kinda doodoo... block on up dpad (though i haven't really found much use for blocking), and i dont think you can even roll.

It sure does take forever to level up your account level :/

wanna use some rank 2 weapons...

Definitely some Warframe slots and weapon slots, those will be priority since there's no way to get more without platinum. Another great buy is Reactors and Catalysts, they make your frame and weapons so much better (double its mod points) and are pretty rare to find blueprints for. As for weapons and frames, it depends on what/how you want to play and how much you're willing to farm. When you say you're lvl 8 are you saying your Volt is lvl 8 or are you already Rank 8?

You gotta play more and lvl more weapons and frames. I bought the Lex (magnum) and Strum (shotty) with game money just to have something to level and push that mastery bar when i was rank 1. Using maxed lvled (30) frames and weapons won't move that bar at all

so your rank is just total exp gained from gear/frame leveling up?

What's affinity? I recall i getting a booster for that with starter pack.

and man are some of these levels annoying. the minimap is near useless at times where objective markers just spaz around.

Is there a story in this, or quests? Or should i just be doing missions with with level range? Is there any reason i should party or just solo?

My changes:

LB: Sprint
Y: Use skill
Dpad up: Switch weapons
Left stick click: Block
Right stick click: Crouch/ slide (switched from toggle to hold)

Works pretty well.

There is a story in a way, but it's mostly background info and lore accessible through the profile menu. And DE just started implementing that stuff a few days ago with update 9, so it's still extremely rudimentary. The new tutorial is the only "story mission" currently in the game.

Yup your mastery rank is completely based on getting affinity (xp) for new weapons and frames. If the bar is full and blinking, that means you're ready for the mastery test to get to the next level.

The marker keeps moving cause its trying to show the path to take to the objective as opposed to what general direction the objective is in (I dislike it too).

I would party when you can since it'll speed things up for you, you don't really lose much for partying (maybe a bit of xp since you're not killing everything by yourself) but I find it much faster and you can see what other frames do/are like so you can plan accordingly as to what bosses you'll have to farm to get the BPs for the frames you want.

Whats the point of blocking? It shares same stamina bar when you could just be running away.

at least it looks cool. Is there any parry/reflect mechanic with block atm?

I think during the last live stream with the devs they mentioned something about revamping blocking since it doesn't seem to do anything right now (besides look neat)

Good times. Farmed Mag BPs today (extremely easy, as Nef Anyo is a pushover - I'm sure he'll get a buff sooner or later, so do it ASAP), got both missing blueprints in just three runs, then went to farm Banshee on Vesper. After a few runs, the Stalker appeared. Running solo, I didn't expect to survive - falling down a ledge saved me from his Slash Dash, then he kinda got stuck and I took him out. And he dropped the Hate BP, the only Stalker weapon I didn't have yet. Started building Hate, then went to Vesper again, and got the Banshee blueprint in my very next run. :)

Is there a 'training guide' available? Which are the missions worth doing?
A guide? What exactly do you want to know? Anyway, all missions are worth doing. At least early on. You might want to join the GAF guild if you haven't already - we run all kinds of shit. Unlike in other MMOs, there's a reason to re-run low level stuff. Especially if people have new frames.

Why does crit chance go over 100%? Do bosses have some level of crit immunity?

A comprehensive guide would REALLY newcomers with a few things. The in-game UI is ass and the website isnt much better.

Took me a while to figure out that you can fuse mods with like mods. Fusion cores was obvious but, again, not explained at all in game.

If you're talking about the Mods for weapons that give +X% crit chance, I believe that they give you a bonus based on your base crit chance. So if your weapon has a 20% base crit chance, equipping a +100% crit chance mod will give you a 40% crit chance, or double your base rate.

Because of the fairly low base crit rate for weapons, and the inability to equip multiple mods of the same type, I doubt you can currently get to 100% actual crit chance right now. Even if you could, it would probably be better to balance it with crit dmg and other mods.

Aw man, Nova is great. New aura system is great. Unranked Nova can have a max Energy Siphon then be able to equip all 4 skills and still have 3 points left to spend, haha!

Sobek is also great! Accelerated Blast + Blaze on it is amazing. It sure eats that ammo, though.

Oh! We have our last lab building! Be sure to contribute to research as soon as you can if possible, because this stuff takes 3 days to complete.

Now I want a Nova even more... :-/

lol. Congrats!

Is there anyway to regen 'mana' or is it only gotten from picking up the blue orbs?
There's an aura called Energy Siphon that slowly regens energy over time. Watch out for an alert for it!

And here's a guide from our resident clan member/lurker, Journ:

Warframe Quickstart Guide

Get used to moving, shooting, moving while shooting:

Though cover is useful, Warframe isn't primarily a cover-based shooter. In fact, even folks that prefer sniper rifles or bows (which are functionally similar, though not identical to sniper rifles) tend to move around quite a bit. The game is hardly requires twitch mastery, but knowing when to be spry and mobile is always helpful (which is often).

Sliding (pressing crouch while sprinting) is also incredibly useful – while sliding, your stamina bar gets a chance to refresh a bit, allowing you to continue moving at a fast pace for longer.

Don't be a jerk, stay with your team:

...that said, there are hardly a more annoying group of individuals on this planet than those who try to rush through a mission, leaving teammates behind. Despite the fact these folk almost always overestimate their own abilities and find themselves overwhelmed, there's a good reason for sticking with your squad.

Warframe has a shared experience system, where killing an enemy allows all nearby allies to receive experience (called Affinity in-game). If you kill an enemy too far from others, they get nothing. Remember this in defense missions, where playing in the outfield is useful – if you kill enemies in or close to their spawn room, people on the other side of the map get zilch.

That said, also don't stray behind too much, but don't be afraid to stay in a room a little longer to loot what you need. Resources are helpful.

Don't worry about not being useful (revives, another target, additional DPS):

Firstly, if you're playing with the clan, chances are we don't care if we have to revive you 100 times per match. We primarily play for fun and camaraderie, and losing on on the 15th wave of a defense mission simply isn't that big a deal.

Regardless of who you're playing with, always remember that any additional DPS is useful, as is being another target for the bad guys. Most importantly, however, they will get die occasionally as well, and need reviving.

In addition...

Mark things, dang it:

Press the 'G' key to set a personal waypoint. Most players – public squad or otherwise – nearly always mark a mod drop or blueprint, and, on occasion, rare resources when they're noticed. This is the unspoken rule that almost everyone adheres to – if you find or pick up a mod, mark it. If you come across blue energy lines from a pickup and not the mod itself, mark it: that means you have, but someone else on the squad hasn't.

On poop:

- Blocking is poop (at the moment). Don't use it. Unless you want to dance in an elevator.

- The user interface is poop, learn creative swear words for occasional glitches, for why there are no saved load outs, and for why you can't view melee stats in the equip screen. They will all be fixed in time, surely.

- Descriptions are poop. A 100% critical chance mod doesn't mean you have 100% chance to critically hit: it's a modifier (for weapons that have an innate 2.5% critical chance, a 100% critical chance mod bumps it up to 5%. Yes, 5%.). Focus Energy and Rending Strike currently have incorrect descriptions. Yes, I too would like to see my damage output with all my mods stacked upon one another, but life is unfair.

- Weapons are almost always poop without Orokin Catalysts. These installations – affectionately referred to “potatoes” by the devs and community – double the mod points available for usage on a weapon. A level 5 weapon will have 5 mod points for usage without a Catalyst. With, it has 10. Most weapons may be poop at low level/without a catalyst: most sing with one. You can get them from alert missions (check out the warframe alerts twitter) or login rewards. You can also buy them, but...

On Platinum:

Platinum is Warframe's premium currency.

You're better off saving it for inventory slots for weapons or warframes, or the occasional Orokin Catalyst or Reactor.

Yes, it's true: buying a Warframe with platinum is easier and they come with an Orokin Reactor pre-installed. This may be an option if you're REALLY averse to farming for resources or blueprints, but if you're running with people you like, it's actually fun and exciting to get a rare drop.

Final Thoughts:

- Mastery level up is achieved through leveling up weapons and warframes (100 for each weapon level, 200 for warframe).

- If you kill a boss or two, there's a chance you'll run into the entity known as Stalker. He has abilities and weapons similar to Tenno Warframes and may kill you easily. If he's on you, stay alive, dodge and stay mobile. If he's on one of your squadmates (announcing his presence with lights flickering and accompanying panic in the chat box), hit him fast and hard. He sometimes drops blueprints for his (awesome) weapons.

- Certain weapon types are strong or weak against certain enemies, as are damage types. Generally, it's fire vs. the Infested, electricity vs. Corpus and armor piercing vs. the Grineer. The infested also have larger, brutish types called Ancients who are strong against fire, but weak against armor piercing. You would never know this unless...

- Check the wiki. Seriously, an inexplicable amount of information (weapon base critical chance, melee weapon type and damage, etc) is left out of the game. Go there for everything.

Welcome to the Nova club! I'm loving the new auras system too. Having a newbie frame with full powers or full shield is great (working on Nyx now).

The Sobek is surprising. Still missing Blaze but it tears stuff apart. Scavenger mod kinda mandatory until it's fully powered!

I try to contribute as much as I can but all my ressources are dry now. Will have to check the best farming places now that the drop rates have been "fixed".

I snagged the starter pack to this a few days ago and have recently start playing this again. Now it's MUUUUUCH more fun a game than it was a few months ago. I had to do a pretty big overhaul on my control options but I think I got them down pretty well and the game now feels much tighter.

I'd like to join up with the Gaf guild if I can. Although I live in Japan which is out of most peoples time zones I do plan on playing pretty regularly.

Buying them in bundles is about the closest you can get to having them on sale. They are a bit pricey ($5 per palette), but the default color options are crap and it is nice being able to customize the look of your gear.
