Mario Kart 8 Announced For Wii U

I too am a bit confused. All footage makes it look good but not particularly far from DKCR but everyone who has seen it in person says it's magical.

I didn't get a chance to play it myself but as a bystander (as well as seeing screens/video) I thought it looked pretty mediocre. I'll definitely still be getting it, but I was hoping for a little more out of Retro. (Something about the lighting and textures looks kind of... off to me)

Show 480p videos of both games to people who haven't played the first one. I'll give a lollipop to anyone who can spot a difference.

I'd like to think Retro has been working on something else for the past 3 years, but sadly that's probably not the case.

I see.
Damn, that Bowser model... hnnnnnngggggg

lol
no story in Mario Kart
The other Mario Kart games are really fun but you don't need them to play MK8

Konno confirmed the game will support all the controllers the previous games did before.
Considering the gamepad and the Wii U pro are the only new controllers this gen and the gamepad being confirmed for obvious reasons, it would be dumb to don't support the Wii U pro.
Thanks, I do find it covering thought it is the only unannounced controller, and considering it is the WiiUs secondary controller it would be ridiculous.

I wouldn't go that far to be honest.
I'm expecting the known Grand Prix, Time Trials, VS. Race and Battle.
I'd like them to entice(force?) people to use all the characters tho. "Use Toadette in Music Park to unlock the Monster Tires AND gain 100 extra coins" and so on..
Yeah, I know it's a sometimes unpopular opinion but I'd like for them to develop some kind of meta-game.

Playing through Seven these days made me realize I'd absolutely love for this game to be treated as a "platform" (like music or pinball games) and get more legacy tracks as DLC.

Because as much as I hate admitting it, I'd pay a lot of money to get a defintive MK in HD with every conceivable track ever released.

While I am of the opinion that there are very few visual "features" separating the wii DKCR from the wii u iteration, I find it rather easy to discern between the two, all factors concerning image quality held equal. Most of the footage Retro has shown features water in either the foreground or background. Unlike DKCR, the water sports actual shaders; it's no longer flat and static. Background objects are also ostensibly more detailed.

These videos kind of... damage the point I have the feeling you are trying to make. I would not doubt anyone for an instant if they showed me Forza and Infamous and told me they were running on current-gen hardware. Youtube quality is certainly assisting in that impression.

Though that was kind of the original claim: muddy the image quality a bit, and things are no longer as obviously improved. DKC:TF looks identical to DKCR. Infamous and Forza look.. basically unchanged. Ryse just kinda looks like shit.

Link to Deep Down or something if you're lookin to impress.

There are some differences you want comparisons? They have added some AA dude

Have we gotten any new shots that are larger than 480p? I sure don't recall any, and presumably any 480p shots have been downsampled from 720 or 1080, which will certainly give them fake AA. Though all the shots on smashbros.com have been like that since E3, so I'm not sure what you're really referring to.

I'd love a comparison of same-res shots if you can manage it, sure!

I'm sure the Wii U Pro is in but let's wait till they officially confirm it.
I'm using the Wiimote and Nunchuk anyway so I'm not worried at all :p

There are a lot of amazing retro tracks waiting for their return and sadly, there are only 13 spots left. Let's wait they implement the DLC feature wisely because they're sitting in a goldmine.
I wish they implemented a fifth retro and grand prix cup. 32 tracks is not enough anymore.
