Where are you getting those statistics from?

The bolded (six games) were commissioned by Nintendo, funded by Nintendo, and Nintendo staff worked on them to various degrees. I would consider those "first-party games" even if they weren't 100% made by a Nintendo internal studio.

It's more like:

Six games (Nintendo 1st-party)
Two games (3rd-party with some form of Nintendo partnership)
One game (Japanese 3rd-party without any exclusivity deals / partnership)
Five games (Western 3rd-party without any exclusivity deals / partnership)

Tecmo Koei's "Romance of the Three Kingdoms XII" is literally the only announced Japanese third-party game coming this year for the Wii U that isn't the result of some form of Nintendo influence.

nintendo is publishing rayman legends unless something changed.

Oh, I thought you were talking about retail.

Technically, Namco Bandai has announced "Pac-Man Museum" for the Wii U. But that just consists of old games...that's about it for Japanese support.
Oh sorry, I was talking about retail. I was just thinking out loud that even expanding to digital, that doesn't add much.

I really think there is just general mario fatigue going on with ML4. Hope that doesnt hurt 3d world later this year but honestly mario needs some breathing room. Release some sports games, but the actual core games like platformers and rpgs needs a rest

Also i dont buy the userbase excuse for pikmin. More likely its been 9 years and their is less interest

Oh and vita is holding well with Dragons Crown. There is no chance wiiu will outsell vita this year. I thought it could with the holidays but wiiu's lineup is just sooo bad.

Like its really hard to overstate how baaaaad the lineup is. The best thing you can say is that its not the worst thing weve ever seen like vita 2012
The Wii U isn't that far from the Vita's sales YTD despite a shitty lineup so far, with a better end of the year lineup and the usual Nintendo boost during the holiday, its pretty safe bet for the Wii U to outsell the Vita.

It's not a safe bet at all unless there's a price cut.

Any predictions what the Dragon Crown split will look like next week? I would think the Vita version may outsell the PS3 since the game seems more suited to a handheld but obviously the PS3 userbase is many times that of the Vita...

320k is a lot considering that's just about the Wii U's YTD as is. It's certainly possible Wii U will pull ahead but I don't think I'd call it likely.

That said, Vita really does have little for the rest of the year, no?

Dang, how did Mario & Luigi Dream Team fare so badly.

1) Mario game saturation (New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon were released all within a 12-month period)

2) Paper Mario was released only seven months ago

3) Not very much built-up hype / anticipation for the game

I'd say outside of 3d world since dk isnt official for japan this year, vita's lineup blows away wiiu even if the biggest games are multiplatform. I'd say god eater 2 will outsell everything on wiiu sans 3d world

I don't see how without a price drop wiiu has any shot of outselling vita because it will come down to december and how much do you think wiiu will sell a week, over 100k? Not likely and the gap is going to get bigger leading up to the holidays

With this being the first platform to have both paper mario and m&l on it especially so close I wonder if that greatly effected its sales.

Several members of Alphadream include former Square employees who worked on Super Mario RPG. So, in a sense, the M&L games are sort of spiritual successors to that game.

hmmm... i just feel like i kinda want another mario rpg thats on a grander scale? paper mario and m&l games always felt more like... fever dreams over epic jrpg lol.

I think God Eater 2 will absolutely be Vita's biggest selling game, but I disagree with you as far as overall lineup goes, at least with what we know now. What other Vita game currently announced is even likely to break 100k? FFX?

I say paper mario 2 had a much bigger scale than super mario rpg. It was also a much better game imo

It isn't that vita has a bunch of games that will sell that much. Its the fact that it has games coming at a pace of more than like 3 a month even if they are niche. And the epic bomba wonderful 101 might be one of vita's niche games might even outsell that =/

So yes i think wiiu will have a much better holiday season, but not nearly enough to close the gap. Of course with DK this year i think the lineup is better for sure. This is all on the notion if dk doesnt launch this year which probably wont happen but you never know with nintendo

Are we talking this year specifically?

I think the Wii U's line-up is better this year for sure, but I was just curious if the bolded applies to this year or announced games in aggregate since I think it's an interesting question for the platform in general.

Road To 1 Million! (Media Create)

Wii U - 33 weeks (1.005.018) (thanks to Pikmin 3)

PS3 - 38 weeks (1.017.689) (thanks to Hot Shots Golf 5)

I know they haven't confirmed it, but I would be surprised if DK doesn't launch in Japan this year. It did very well on the Wii and the Wii and 3DS versions only came out a few weeks later in Japan.

I'm going with 1:1. Basically, the ongoing hardware sales ratio, give or take. Worked for Toukiden, might work again. A theory that needs some more testing in any case.

07/25 Japan Dragon's Crown

I highl doubt it. psp has been dead for a good bit while ps3 is still alive somewhat.

Considering god eater 2 is also on PSP, I kinda doubt that. We'll see though. The best selling game so far on Vita is what, Persona 4 with 200K? 250? At best, I don't see God Eater 2 doing much better than that on PSV. Pikmin 3 might even show some legs and end up around those numbers.

I agree it wont be easy for Wii U to outsell Vita's YTD though. With 3DW coming so late, it'd probably require a price cut. I dunno, call me an optimist or whatever you want but I do think Nintendo still has quite a bit of mindshare over in Japan. Much more than in the West comparatively. With the 3DS dominating the charts, Nintendo's brand is still such a big name in gaming. They need to leverage that with the Wii U. I have no idea what their marketing is like in Japan...hopefully not as atrocious as it is over here in the US.

But yeah, a price cut would help...

Gundam Breaker, J-Stars Victory Vs., and Over My Dead Body Vita perhaps? All are from franchises that have done good numbers in the past. None of them have confirmed release dates though.

All charts launch-aligned. All data from Famitsu.
Weekly numbers presented in logarithmic base 1,000 for clarity. In that case, zero units are represented by one unit.

Note, since this draws only from the top 30 it does not represent smaller titles.
e.g., software sales of zero are assumed if the console has no games in the top 30.

T2lEzER.png

Tally of the number of titles for that platform in the top 30 for each week.
Certain weeks may have titles that aren't represented. These are the PS3's 7th and 25th, and the Wii's 4th and 23rd.

Feel free to criticize or point out mistakes.

Dissapointing drop for Pikmin 3 and WiiU. Expected a bit better hold as Monday was a holiday I believe.

Pretty bad for M&L. While 100k on its own is decent, it also had a bundle which the previous games did not. Luigi saturation? Ultra casual audience picked up BiS in droves and are no longer on 3DS? Released too soon after Paper Mario? (even though that was more of an adventure RPG than a pure RPG)

It was kinda dumb to announce new LBX game before the release of LBX W Ultra.
Hopefully the new one may do better.

That's exactly what they did last year ... LBX Explosive Boost (3DS port) was announced at the same time as the sequel for PSP/Vita, which has now been ported to 3DS as LBX Ultra Custom.

Congrats Wii U, you barely hit one million before the console that cost twice as much as you!

What's up with famitsu data for the WiiU on Garaph? It stops at week 16.

Wonder why JoshuaJSlone hasn't updated Garaph in so long.

Oh well. Since it looks like you want Wii U Famitsu data, here you go:

* Dangan-Ronpa 1-2 Reload (If the anime maintains its popularity, it can sell big)
* Dragon's Crown (Muramasa did 100k retail+digital)

These are the only two that come to my mind after God Eater 2 and FF X|X-2 HD.

P.S Talking about LTD figure and not opening week.

Nintendo no longer bundles physical game cartridges with 3DS hardware. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team comes pre-installed.
