Media Create Sales: Week 29, 2013 (Jul 15 - Jul 21)

seems like lego city will do okish. always hard to judge from what we get but it should chart at least. matbe something like 10-15k? from where it's sitting in there

I think it will do a bit better than that. 25-30K maybe?

Talking about legs before we've even seen the first week numbers seem a bit premature no? Though a bunch of smaller PSV title have been decently leggy so it wouldn't be too surprising I guess :)

I think you missed the joke ;)

Yeah I'm definitely expectign >20k for LCU which would be pretty damn good for a game like this compared to how the rest of the software has performed so far on the wii u.

Comgnet comparison: (Wii U first-party titles)

[WIU] Game & Wario - 32pt (23.995)
[WIU] New Super Luigi U - 33pt (27.312)

[WIU] LEGO City Undercover - 40pt

Do you truly believe that LEGO might open with 30k?

I think its possible. It sold I believe 40-50% of its shipment first day, and I'd be mildly surprised if that shipment was significantly less than 30K.

We'll see..but right now if I had to guess I would say it will sell more than W101 in Japan :(

Comgnet is always more gamer oriented and I'd say Lego is enthusiast gamer type of product in Japan so those points will probably translate to less sales than Wario or Luigi.

Really? I would not think that. Lego seems pretty casual to me...

This will be so sad. It's even worse the fact that it has some decent chances of happening.

Also the whole talk about Lego will be so funny if it does something like 9k!

I was expecting something like that, but after seeing Tsutaya chart i don't know anymore. Maybe 20-25k.

I'm still expecting more than 20k, but we'll see. That will chart is a centainty, so at least we'll know, unlike all of the other wiiu titles.

And DC is crazy. Well deserved. This looks like the first fun game from vanillaware since ever.

Feel sort of bad for virtually every one of these pre-SSB/Mario Kart Wii U releases. NSMBU was supposed to lay the groundwork and keep it fertile for these supplementary titles, but it didn't. Now these games are being cast on dry earth and by the time the monsoon arrives, these old seeds will have already perished.

just some guesswork based on the other stuff in the charts, which is bound to be very inaccurate heh.

could be 20k+ for sure but it's below friend collection on both so I think 25kish would be a good place to estimate a maximum. It being so low on the Tsutaya chart is what would have me lower my guess but then again friend collection itself is pretty low on that chart aswell.

In west. In Japan you probably need to be enthusiast to even know Lego games exist.

Why do you have to know the previous Lego games exist to want to play the game? Do we expect this game to be aiming only at the Lego game fans? Are they itching for the conclusion of the story?

I still think we could see numbers that aren't completely horrible (say like Schuelma's prediction) if the game was properly advertised. I doubt it has been. Has anyone in Japan seen any advertisement at all?

[WIU] The Wonderful 101 (2 days)

Another weekend release? >.>

And here's something about M&L4, from Media Create:

Media-Create say that the difference is that Bowser’s Inside Story had a wide audience buying the game, from grade school students to people in their 30s, which indicates that a number of casual players picked it up. So, why didn’t Dream Team do as well?

The answer to that may lie in another Nintendo game, which is Pikmin 3. Media Create point out that Pikmin 3 was released the week before Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and was a highly anticipated Nintendo game, which might have cut into the word of mouth of the latter game. Perhaps we’ll see Dream Team sales pick up as the effect of Pikmin 3 wears off in the weeks to come.

I don't buy that reasoning at all.

1) There are MUCH MORE 3DS owners than Wii U owners.
2) Most Wii U owners are most likely to be core gamers and not casual gamers.

Not saying it can't affect it, but to the degree it did is very unlikely.

M&L has been underperforming in europe too which is a shame. I don't know... It just seems that a lot of the audience that picked up BiS is just not there anymore.100k units is pretty underwhelming for a debut...

Or they picked up Paper Mario at christmas and see no need for a new rpg so fast. Mario and Luigi at least in japan seems like it should be doing great.

Hmm I guess that's probably it and that's why they're maybe trying to head Paper Mario in a different direction than that of a classical rpg.

Releasing both of them in a 6 months period is probably not the smartest thing, especially on the same console.

Yeah, PM shouldn't have been so close. And how come it wasn't for the Wii U?

But I do disagree that 100k is a poor debut, because there are digital sales we don't know about, that weren't a factor in previous installments.

EDIT:
Eh, I'm just going to call Mario fatigue.
Hmm, when each game is a completely different genre I don't think this applies.
NSMB -> NSMBWii -> NSMBU can apply...

but...adventure/puzzle game in Luigi's mansion, 3d platformer in 3D Land, traditional rpg in M&L...then racing in Kart and fighting in smash. Personally, I wouldn't feel an overlap if I bought all of these games.

Well three pillars of LEGO games are:

- LEGO itself
- well known licence
- fun family friendly gameplay

This one doesn't have licence, I don't know if LEGO is big in Japan, and previous games sold something like 20k on PS2.

I'd say that classifies it as a rather niche product.

I don't know how SS was received in Japan, but that didn't stop it from selling so well.

It's usually not the negatively perceived game that does poorly, but the subsequent game.
If we were to look at it as Bowser's Inside Story to Sticker Star to Dream Team, you could see something like that.

But this is just pure speculation about something I have no idea about.

Yeah, probably if we add digital sales the game has sold 250k or so... even 1 million is possible.

With a 25% sellthrough, M&L is not a poor debut, it's a pathetic debut.
